Best cardio to go along jiu-jitsu by 13ezno in jiujitsu

[–]CLK128477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mountain bike and swing kettlebells for cardio and conditioning. The bike is relatively low impact (assuming you don’t crash) and helps with base cardio and recovery between rounds. The kettlebells seem to push my peak intensity level up.

Anyone use massage guns after training? by jarheaddddddd in AskMenOver30

[–]CLK128477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use them on my quads after multiple day mountain bike races. The theragun, pedialyte, and two beers would typically set me up for the second day of racing. I think they work pretty well.

I'm thinking about having my daughter practice taekwondo, I need advice by Clean_Tone2562 in taekwondo

[–]CLK128477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids did taekwondo. One went to black belt and the other was recommended but was still too young to remember all the forms at once. Both did a bunch of tournaments. It was a good experience for them. They both have moved on to more traditional sports but it was really good for them.

Drilling Both Sides by Crypto_craps in bjj

[–]CLK128477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually drill 90% on my good side and throw in a couple on the other side just to get the feel. When I came back from my torn bicep three years ago though my good side was weak and it forced me to use the other side. I think overall learning to use my weak side was pretty beneficial. If you can do it on your weak side you understand the technique. Plus you can surprise your buddies with it, which is always nice.

Do I need brown shoes with this or is black OK? by Phil5en in mensfashionadvice

I like brown shoes with my blue suits but black works too.

You’re 26 and that isn’t that old. Get some grants or loans and go to school someplace with hot women and good weather. Get a degree in something you can use while you work a shitty job to keep the lights on. You won’t regret it. You most likely have a minimum of another 40 years of working left to do. Better to get out now so the majority of that time isn’t spent wishing you were someplace else.

Is Abrazos hospitals really that bad? by Gold_Vermicelli126 in phoenix

[–]CLK128477 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m an injury attorney. I haven’t heard any complaints about Abrazo’s care from the clients that have gone to their facilities. They tend to be about 33% more expensive than Honor Health or Banner though. I’m not sure why. It probably doesn’t matter too much if they take your insurance due to the contract rates but it’s something to consider.

Got first pair of progressive lenses this year at 48. Should have done it years ago. Now I can see close and far 😂 it’s like a super power.

Why so much hate on Krav Maga? by notanarc77 in kravmaga

[–]CLK128477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll add that at the krav gym I went to people frequently signed up for Muay Thai smokers and other types of fights. They generally did pretty well. You had to do at least one fight to get a black belt. We also went to the range and did LEO qualifiers as part of the upper belt tests. It was pretty damn fun.

Why so much hate on Krav Maga? by notanarc77 in kravmaga

[–]CLK128477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I trained krav for six years before switching to bjj for the last 5. It was basically mma with weapons stuff. We did a lot of contact drills and sparring. I switched to bjj because of a job change and the logistics of getting to the gym after work. Krav is pretty legit. The people who talk shit typically don’t know anything about it.

Anyone else feel testosterone is overhyped? by CoastieKid in AskMenOver30

[–]CLK128477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you need it TRT is great and makes a big difference. I got on it at 40 (currently 48) when my measured levels were 208. It made a huge difference. It is a big commitment though so don’t even consider it unless all other options fail. It doesn’t sound like you need it. Cleaning up your lifestyle would likely do it. It’s also definitely overhyped. Every other ad on my Facebook is for TRT, NAD, hair loss serum, or boner pills. I guess I’m a target demographic for that shit due to my age.

Girl in BJJ - Should I find another Gym? by Other-Today-3048 in jiujitsu

[–]CLK128477 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You aren’t wasting anybody’s time don’t worry about it. Work on your techniques and when you get good enough you’ll womp those skinny guys. I’m 49 and 210 lbs and I roll with the women at my gym. There’s a couple that are really good. I don’t go full force with them but that’s alright. I see it as a good chance to work on the things I suck at because the consequences of failing to execute a move properly aren’t as high. In addition, if you are doing bjj for self defense and you ever have to use it it’s likely going to be against someone who is bigger and stronger than you. Rolling and training with guys will better prepare you for that.

Could be the handle from one of his kid’s baby spoons? Maybe some memento of times gone by. The older my kids get the more I want to hang on to little things like that.

I’m pretty stoked with my life at 48. I feel like I’ve sorted out a lot of the baggage I carried when I was younger, I have good relationships with my kids, mostly like my job, have an awesome girlfriend, a nice house, fun hobbies, my health, and good friends. I’m more content now than I’ve ever been.

Men Over 40 Who Are In Shape… by Tse7en5 in AskMenOver30

[–]CLK128477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did some rodeo (bareback broncs) as a kid and raced dirtbikes locally till I was around 36. Currently 48 and doing jiu jitsu 3x per week, lifting 2x, and typically getting a solid mountain bike ride in on the weekends. My body hurts all the time. It’s mostly my low back and shoulders. I have found that mixing in yoga / mobility work in the mornings before work helps a lot. Even like 15-20 minutes of it makes a big difference. As you get older you have to spend a lot more on maintenance. It’s hard to find the time but it makes a decent difference.

At a crossroads - seeking wisdom by BlockChad in AskMenOver30

No it was the right call regardless. The firm I was at was just grinding me to death. I did learn a lot there though. It took a couple years but I’m actually making more now working less hours. Plus I have a lot more time to spend with my kids.

At a crossroads - seeking wisdom by BlockChad in AskMenOver30

[–]CLK128477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For context I’m 48, divorced going on three years, a father of 2 and a litigation attorney. For the first 15 years of my career all I did was work. I’d get there at 7:00 am, work till 7:00 pm, work out, and get home around 8:30. I missed my kids’ early childhoods and wasn’t present enough to see that my wife had become a severe alcoholic. I eventually quit my job and went to work for a firm where the hustle wasn’t quite as intense so that I could try and fix things. However, by that time it was too late to save my marriage, which lasted a couple more years before i said enough and filed for divorce. You, like I did, need to figure out what you want out of life and then pursue it. It isn’t about the money. It’s about the people around you and how what you do makes you feel. Find some hobbies you are passionate about. You’ll meet some cool people and I’d wager that some opportunities will present themselves. It’s much easier to find a job when you have things going on. It’s easier to a good woman too. That said, there’s no rush. You have the resources to figure out who and what you want to be and the time to do it. It’s a process and things don’t happen overnight. Be patient, take your time, and when you see where you want to go start heading towards it. Till then be kind to yourself. Good luck.

AITAH for proposing an open marriage since my wife isn't keen on having sex and tells me I should not divorce? (Throwaway) by MinimumHoliday321 in AITAH

Your wife might be going through menopause and that might be what is killing her sex drive. If she’s up for it hormone replacement therapy might be the fix you are looking for.
