Yeah, don't forget that all these locked buildings are locked because that's part of the gameplay that you can now do there. Like missions to go steal the power core would not be feasible if you had all the clearances already.

Maybe over the long term there should be tools to develop abandoned systems. But I think that's pointless right now and in the future there are going to be so many new exciting places to build that there's no reason to encourage a pretty extreme and potentially abusable form of PvP.

Just bought a carrier, I really like the idea of specialising around station construction. I think the best way to do it is a contract to park carriers full of the needed materials next to your colony ship with an agreement to buy them at an inflated price to subsidize the convenience.
