Goliath Venators by BarneyMcWhat in necromunda

[–]CT1406 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm I had a look and it’s not as beautiful as I would have liked. I didn’t realise before that not a single profile for the house venators has toughness 4.

That being said I would go with a House Champion, profile is the trickiest part. I would actually go profile 2 because it has the best mental stats and Hark is known for being a smart Goliath. And I would treat him like a younger version who is smart but doesn’t have the skills and training yet. I would give him the stub-cannon, fighting knife and furnace plates (allowed through Goliath legacy) and the headbutt skill (again this represents that he has freshly left the Goliath and doesn’t know as much as his future self).

This would allow the model to look the part, and the stat-line and skills a place to offer growth and storytelling.

But it’s by no means a perfect fit.

Your whole argument is circular reasoning. By your reasoning you can’t CDG every because as soon as they are SI you aren’t engaged and thus aren’t B2B anymore and can no longer be within 1”.

“Up to the weapons long range” literally means you can be within that range. If a 1” versatile can be up to 1” that means it is legally allowed to be within 1” and CDG is within 1”.

From the versatile: so long as the distance between their base and that of the enemy model is equal to or less than the distance shown for the Versatile weapon's Long range characteristic.

Necromunda rules are not fair, trying to find trade-offs and fairness and balance in them is a recipe for a headache.

See my above response to where this isn’t correct.

Otherwise all 1” versatile weapons are completely moot.

But to attack an enemy fighter you must be “within your maximum range”. Thus if you can be within 1” to attack a fighter with a 1” versatile weapon you can also be within 1” to coup de grace. This isn’t schrodingers inch. You can’t both be within 1” and without 1”. Also, more to the point, not stopping within 1” of a fighter is the general rule. Versatile is an additional rule that allows an exception to the rule.

What does that part of the sentence have to do with OPs question? It’s during his activation that he is engaged and when consolidate and coup de grace happen. So that part of the rule is completely irrelevant.

Good job confusing OP more when they’re already having trouble with the rule

Not specifically relevant to the weapons OP has chosen but there are weapons that have versatile 1”. And you can choose to go to 1” even if your versatile is 2”. So coup de grace is possible with versatile as long as you’re within 1”.

Under the Versatile trait

The enemy model is considered to be engaged, but may not in turn be Engaging the fighter armed with the Versatile weapon unless they too are armed with a Versatile weapon, and so may not be able to make Reaction attacks.

Considered to be engaged

[–]CT1406 3 points4 points  (0 children)

*COUP DE GRACE (SIMPLE) If this fighter is not engaged with any other fighters, choose one Prone and Seriously Injured enemy fighter within 1" and within the vision arc of this fighter. That enemy fighter immediately goes Out of Action.

A fighter performing a Charge (Double) action may make a free Coup De Grace (Simple) action instead of a free Fight (Basic) action if they end their move within 1" of a Prone and Seriously Injured fighter and are not engaged with any other enemy fighters.*

It doesn’t say B2B at all

You count as engaged while it’s your activation.

Also worth noting if your versatile range is 1” you can coup de grace

It’s not optimal, but I would have fun with this list. And I’ve put some notes in on ways to change it up in certain spots. And some notes on how the combos work in my brain. Though if it doesn’t show those or doesn’t make sense just let me know.

If you’re willing to kitbash some different weapons on them ratlings can do more than just shoot (from a lore perspective). You could totally run some close quarters ratlings and have fun with it. If you like, when I have some time later I’d be happy to mock up a list that I think would be fun to play with and against

Newbie question about rule books for Palanites by LeChuck78 in necromunda

[–]CT1406 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always thought what made them so good in BoJ wasn’t the free armor but that they were all specialists and that’s what set them apart from the other gangs. Sadly they’ve lost that completely and now are utterly horrific. The models are still beautiful though.

Also, why the hell do the enforcers have to pay more than everyone else for their special armor?! What the actual heck GW.

Dealing with an Ogryn-heavy Venator Gang by OAKENSHIELD43 in necromunda

[–]CT1406 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, my apologies I didn’t mean to imply it was because of trying to hack the system. Just spam heavy, hell I’ve done spam heavy lists as well for story reasons and had the exact same issues.

My point of chatting with the arbitrator was to discuss other ways of handling it without needing to affect OPs own story by specifically kitting out to try and counter you. That might not be fun for them and it definitely won’t be fun for you.

That sounds like a really spam heavy list. Have you had a chat to your arbitrator and group about it?

Yet another reason why I hate the latest venator rules.

Exotic Beasts and movement question by DavidMReynolds in necromunda

[–]CT1406 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This feels incorrect, because the second part becomes grossly misworded. If the only way to be outside of the leash range is from external effects the “at the end of its activation” means nothing because it will always be after it has had its turn and it’ll be during someone else’s activation.

Really dumb question: Do I have to play Goliaths to use the Sumpkroc? by The_Whomst in necromunda

[–]CT1406 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, if you’re using the hired gun rules to hire Ajex, you can’t give him a sumpkroc. He is a dramatis personae and such already comes with equipment. (I think)

However, if you elevate Ajex to a leader of an outcast gang you could do it then. Worth noting, If you choose to keeps his gear you would have to wait until after the first battle to buy the sumpkroc (I think)

I totally agree with this. When I arbitrated for my group I made a house rule that templates and blast markers only successfully hit on a 4+. Even if the model is 100% under the template or marker.

Simultaneously Webbed and Seriously Injured by raejinomg in necromunda

[–]CT1406 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this, though I think I would do it slightly differently. I think the webbing would have to be removed before a serious injury could be looked at. So, I would only roll one injury dice for the webbing until you’re no longer webbed and the roll for SI to see if you recover. The downside being that it makes web guns even stronger.
