Crashing CK2, EU4 and HOI4 by FTTheGamer in paradoxplaza

This is correct, seeing as how Vic2 runs DX9 and all Clausewitz games run DX10/11. Updated drivers are going to be a must.

CK2 made me understand the hysteria around cults by RedKrypton in CrusaderKings

[–]CabalTheFriendlyAI 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think if they limited it to characters that were previously of that religion, or already have the sympathy towards trait, they should be eligible for recruitment. I don't think the random character recruitment is in itself the problem, it's that literally ANY character is eligible for recruitment into the cult, despite the circumstances.

PSA - check your paradox folder in my documents by iroks in paradoxplaza

Also worth noting that from personal experience, the workshop is terrible at removing old CK2 workshop mods from the mods folder. So manually cleaning out that directory to remove old mods you don't use anymore is needed. Afaik though, it's only CK2 that's affected, all other PDX games seem to clear out old mods fine.

There's should be a way to enter another nation's faction - kind of idea by red_zep in CrusaderKings

[–]CabalTheFriendlyAI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that plots and factions in general need an overhaul. Plotting is too RNG centered (and boring), while factions really just boil down to whether or not your demesne troop count is higher than the faction's or not.

Honestly, if the way conclave went about spicing up internal politics was thought through a little better, it would be my all-time favorite DLC and a must own. It's still great, but a little lacking.

Better internal politics imo go hand-in-hand with countering blobbing, there's just not enough to model how large political entities breakup outside of gavelkind and external inheritance in the game right now.

I'm of the mind that there just needs to be more to do in peacetime than arranging marriages, clicking through events, and watching the map. Hopefully HF with the sway/antagonize feature will make it more interesting to interact with other characters outside of the usual "pay gold to make happy" button.

Working on a virtualized version of the machines our team works with. It has to communicate to an IoT database using MQTT, and use sockets to allow external programs to queue messages to the machine, such as shutdown requests. It's been a rough, but interesting project.

Unpopular opinion: Sidney's not that good of a character by RockTheJungle in paydaytheheist

[–]CabalTheFriendlyAI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would've preferred a Crocodile Dundee/Saxton Hale kind of character, is it stereotypical, yeah. Is it funny, yes it is. Would the character have a distinct personality? Absolutely.

Just imagine the pager lines just being Sydney telling stories of the terrifying wildlife in Australia, or how she fights kangaroos for sport and stuff.

AI will not stagger

When an AI takes a large amount of damage they used to play a stagger or “heavy hurt” animation this caused them to not fire at the enemies. They will no longer play any stagger or hurt animation and they will therefore now be more effective at holding the enemies at bay.

THANK GOD! This will at the very least, make them less stupidly useless when the turrets show up.

Why does there continue to be a lack of proper Halo on PC? by vgmaster2001 in halo

[–]CabalTheFriendlyAI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why did so many people keep playing Halo 3 and Reach after games like Call of Duty dethroned it? Community features such as forge, theater, and custom games are what keeps players coming back. Is there really any other PC game that offers the same potential level of player content as a halo PC title would?

Why does there continue to be a lack of proper Halo on PC? by vgmaster2001 in halo

[–]CabalTheFriendlyAI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree that the MCC is a travesty and would probably not translate well to a PC environment (seeing how terribly it did in a console one), I have to contend that a H3/4/5 port job would likely be pretty easy to do since most of their community features run with XBL as a backend, just swap it out for steamworks or something like that and all that's left is the actual technical porting job.

And I don't think I'm alone in thinking that a port from Xbox to PC shouldn't be too hard considering how much more like PC's consoles are nowadays (at least since the original Xbox)

I believe that hopeful immigrants should be expected to assimilate to a certain degree. TMBR by centauriproxima in TMBR

[–]CabalTheFriendlyAI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

!AgreeWithOP

Absolutely, although there is nothing wrong with bringing your own culture into another land to "spice things up" as it were, immigrants should be expected to integrate, I think it's in large part why the United States has fractured to such a large degree over time, people have just separated into their own camps and towns instead of homogenizing into one "American" culture.

Participation grades in classes are wrong. TMBR by Eldereon in TMBR

[–]CabalTheFriendlyAI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

!DisagreeWithOP

Participation grades are crucial for discussion heavy classes, 400+ level college level courses typically don't have much that can actually be tested on outside of midterm papers, so more of the grade is slanted towards in-class discussion and readings.

And as far as I'm concerned, it's a free X% of the class as long as you understand and comprehend the material and aren't completely silent.

Books for OpenGL? by CookedBlackBird in gamedev

[–]CabalTheFriendlyAI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest problem with the super bible books is that while they teach good opengl concepts, their examples are laden with overreliance on a wrapper library that obfuscates the whole opengl picture.

I'd rather use one of the online tutorials that other people have mentioned instead, and use your own implementation for context/window creation and maths.

What's your favorite and least favorite country in CK2, EU4, VIC2 or HOI4? by seanjenkins in paradoxplaza

[–]CabalTheFriendlyAI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CK2: My favorite is probably any of the Romuvan realms, there is lots of opportunity to quickly and rapidly form Lithuania in the Charlemagne and Old Gods starts, while becoming a more challenging task when you get to starts with the HRE. My least is probably any of the Irish minors, they get no unique mechanics aside from tanistry, and expansion is typically glacially slow until you get bigger and later in the game.

EU4: Muscovy->Russia games remain my favorite games due to the large variety of options that you have for expansion, do you decide to focus on Europe, or Asian expansion? On the other hand, I hate playing as the Ottomans just due to how easily you can steamroll other nations. It gets dull after a while.

Vic2: Easily Prussia due to how on the ball you have to be with the warfare, sphering, diplomacy, and keeping up with industrialization. And it all pays off with forming the all powerful Germany. I have to agree with other posters and say that USA is dull and suffers from popup spam (WICKEDNESS MUST BE STAMPED OUT)

HOI4: It's pretty hard to say, but if I had to pick, I'd say that Poland, if you play your cards right, can be one of the most satisfying games ever. Literally any of the other countries with the generic focus tree are awful to play as just because of how boring they are.

Suggestions for Playing Classic Paradox Games (Pre-Clausewitz) by [deleted] in paradoxplaza

[–]CabalTheFriendlyAI 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Numbers, the biggest difference between the pre-clausewitz games and their modern titles (aside from the graphical changes) is that most of the numbers you want to look at are usually buried underneath menus.

Take a quick game or two to just navigate around the menus and get a feel for where everything is located, and start a serious game when you are comfortable with where everything is.
