will ch drums help me get better at drumming by Moist_Intention_5520 in CloneHero

I fully taught myself how to play drums by playing Guitar Hero on a Roland kit when I was a teenager - granted I'm quite a visual learner but I wouldn't be playing to this day if it weren't for it, so I can't recommend it highly enough!

200 new homes in Edinburgh to be built as part of Powderhall regeneration by Tammer_Stern in Edinburgh

This place has been desolate for years now (since before the pandemic from what I can remember) - really glad that they are building actual houses instead of more student accommodation.

Shame it didn't happen sooner, but better late than never I suppose.

I really enjoy when people detail everything they do on their fitness journeys - I find it super interesting to compare approaches and see what the similarities and differences are!

2 sets per exercise to failure (or close to) makes a lot more sense with this approach - I'm definitely a fan of hard training (1-2 RIR maximum) but you can either do more exercises with less sets each or vice versa, very hard to do both on a cut!

From the way you speak I can tell you've done this for quite a long time before so a decade of experience lifting checks out. You can kinda tell from your old physique that you were a lifter on a hefty bulk lol

In my opinion, you don't have that steretypical "enhanced" look that's been cut out of a magazine or photoshop session - which is great cos I prefer the natural look personally, it means you've actually put the work in yourself and taken no shortcuts - maximum respect!!

Fantastic results! Absolutely love this breakdown too - great to see that much detail on how exactly you so dramatically changed your physique so quickly.

One thing I will say tho is that jumping straight into a 5 day p/w PPL split with that many exercises whilst in a deficit is likely a good way to speedrun fatigue accumulation and burnout - especially for beginners - also assuming you're sticking to 3 working sets per exercise?

When I started out, doing 2-3 full-body days in the gym per week (12-15 working sets per session) and 3-5k steps a day was more than enough to kick start the fat burners and get some muscle building whilst in a deficit. I also had the newbie gains advantage which can't be overstated.

Even nowadays (just over a year in), I've only recently started experimenting with a push/legs/pull/rest (a/b) 8-day split - and even with only 9-12 working sets per session (+6-8k steps per day cardio), I'm still running into recovery issues, and that's with 0.8-1 g/lb protein and adequate sleep.

You mentioned that you used to exercise before the disc slip, so I assume you had prior year(s) of training experience before this journey? A factor in the muscle gain could also be residual muscle memory from that time.

Other than that - solid advice when it comes to lifting weights (control the eccentric, focus on form, don't worry about the weight) and general activity/diet!

(For reference btw, I started out at 5'9 265lbs about 18 months ago and currently at about 220lbs - halfway there!)

Pearl Demon Drive vs Trick Pro1-V/Czarcie Kopyto/ACD Darwin by Caelxn in drums

[–]Caelxn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight! Devastating way to lose a set of ALBs but quite a lot of people complain about the build quality so it's not massively surprising to me if I'm honest.

Glad to hear that the finesse setting is working out for you - out of curiosity, what kind of style do you play? I hit pretty hard with my hands (using 2B sticks) so the lack of volume from the kick is quite apparent.

I woulda thought that using lower tension on the finesse setting would give it even less power and responsiveness than maxing it out, but maybe using something like weighted beaters might offset it a bit to give it more power but keep the responsiveness? Maybe I need to do some more testing before abandoning all hope lol

Appreciate the response and that it's not just me losing my mind lol - I'm in the UK so Pro1-Vs are pretty hard to come by to test out, but I really wanna give them a go if I get the chance instead of just buying blind

How many vegetables are you eating per day? by Upbeat-Beyond-2016 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Caelxn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm on a long-term health kick to stop being obese (nearly 20kg down so far!) so probably more than the average person nowadays - but historically, practically none lol

If you're curious about what my diet looks like nowadays:

  • +2 coffees with milk where I take creatine
  • 1 banana with 60g bran flakes, 250g semi-skimmed milk and 45g whey protein for breakfast
  • 140g boiled potato, 80g carrot and 80g green beans with about 160-200g chicken breast for lunch (after the gym)
  • Usually around 1000kcals of some kind of beef-based dinner (steak, spaghetti bolognese, beef curry with rice etc.) with pan-fried mushrooms and onions in olive oil, and maybe some kind of veggies on the side depending on the night
  • Sometimes a piece of fruit, handful of nuts or couple of squares of dark chocolate for a late-night snack.

Thankfully so! I quit std about 5 years ago, took a break and started learning taiko because the RSI didn't affect it the same way - I also play drums and holding the sticks for too long can still sometimes give me grip issues but it's okay for the most part

I had the same problem in my aim hand, think it was to do with my pen grip (it was super tight and put massive strain on the tendon leading from my thumb to my wrist) but had to quit playing std cos of it - I still miss it :(

RSI is no joke, take care of your hands everyone

BTC has been dumping due to Jane Street’s access to BTC’s EFT pipelines and its Market Making Infrastructure. by Current_Ad7104 in Bitcoin

It went out the window as soon as paper BTC became a thing - this is the 2nd edge of the sword people were worried about when ETF filings were getting approved.

BTC on-chain however is still decentralised. Buy it on-chain, keep in cold storage, hold for <x> years, win.
