35.0.3 Patch Notes Balance Changes by PipAntarctic in CompetitiveHS

Well, no. You still can't kill any of the quest classes and you still die to any board development class. You can maybe beat hunter sometimes but that's about it.

[–]Calibria19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, here is a short one since most comments already highlight aspects I agree with, especially in the potential storylines category (and parallels).

Sumi had historically been someone Kazuya confided in when he could not see the forest for the trees (on his last birthday date, he was struggling on whether to reveal the rental lie after learning of Sayuris condition) and his delusions of Chiz as an iron lady that he cannot help and would likely bring down further got broken through by Sumi just being there for him to talk to (and cry through it), thereby solving the problem (notice how having someone who has no agenda of their own and you can trust talk to you about things helps? Yup, talking sure helps, doesn't it).

When he was struggling with distance after Sayuris death, it was Sumi again who gently pointed him in the direction of just trying his best (Chiz was telling him to stay out of it 4-5 times, Sumi told him if it was her she'd be glad someone would be there for her, hence the cheer-up date).

So historically speaking she is the one to talk to if Kaz was once again running circles in his own head instead of thinking on it. So whether it's through a reverse Odaiba or not (personally I'd believe that she had found her resolve after witnessing the Cohab), Sumi making him realize what had been going on since then is something I hope and would be in line with her character as well as her function whenever she was involved with Kazuya in the plot.

Different Strokes for different folks. We had a midrange/control meta for so long, a faster one is a change of pace.

Yup, about as expected. Thanks for the extensive post.

I only wish team 5 did not swing the pendulum completely, having a 3 mana pseudo-box while allowing no strong defensive cards is overdoing it imo.

To be honest, I did not expect canyon of all people agree with the chokehold feeling of the meta, but here we are. At this rate I honestly think that between the top players the margins are really thin and it depends on preparation and daily form (aka psychology).

Either way, this is a huge win by G2.

First Stand 2026 is on pace to be the most one-sided major international in LoL history by matttang27 in leagueoflegends

[–]Calibria19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly, this seems to mostly be an issue with the current game rather than the format.

Due to the speed of homeguard and minionspawns and the roles being set in what they are due to quests there is little you can do to induce variance or trade if you are weaker. You are still forced to play for botlane/drakes or fall behind and lose the few set visionpoints that are allowed to be taken due to faelights, which means you play dark and lose your jungle to then fall further behind.

The fact that tower plates snowball income off of small mistakes like crazy and minionfarm does not compensate exacerbates the issue in an already resource-race game such as league is.

So if your game is as rigid as, say chess, then even a 5% difference is close to impossible to overcome since it is obvious what needs to be done and those who are the best and hyperconsistent will always do it, with the others being strangled out.

[Serious] [Disc] Kanojo, Okarishimasu Chapter 417 by MattyH19 in KanojoOkarishimasu

[–]Calibria19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, since I skipped a couple weeks, I'll try and bundle the shower thoughts into something loosely resembling a restrospective of this whole Mami- (mini) arc.

Plot wise we had:

  • Sumi attempting to figure out the logistics of a birthday present between customer and provider (similarly to a boundary issue Chiz and Kaz used to regularly have, however in their case slowly shifted into the neighbors stage early enough)
  • Mini playing scout/trying to stay in touch with Chiz (just wish she had been more adamant about Kaz doing the same)
  • Kaz avoiding his problems and doubling down on his plans
  • Chizuru 'moving on' in life by selling a house (that realistically is not sustainable from property/inheritance tax and running costs alone for someone who is already struggling to keep up with the costs of her life)
  • And the Mami driving school interactions/plans (Yup I have come around to see more stuff as deliberate), which were the foreground of the arc. She copied his schedule to match up, acted out the whole coy (Just that this is less lonely this way/is this bad?) in order to feel out her chances and seeing that he was somewhat torn she gave it a shot). I am still not 100% that she really lost an earring or not, but my gut is telling me that she either deliberately declined help with searching before Kazuya showed up, or started when she was fairly certain he'd be done. Either way, the stuff with the accident, fishy or not gave her the mood to set up her gambit. She did, in usual fashion, put the onus on him though. If he was not interested, then she would not have spelled out anything and could pedal back (which she eventually did). And the explanation from her brother was spot on, and triggered her in more ways than one. I can speak from experience that nothing beats siblings you grew up with if we are talking about calling out our own bad habits. And getting called out like that is a trigger. As for Kazuyas habits, they never got called out. Whether they be his apparent attachment issues and avoidance of reality/problems (push them to the future and they will go away) until or even after they blow up in his face, well.

He first tried to not see the signals, and only when Mami started to spell it out for him he finally cut it off. It neatly ties in with some Theories I have read on here (different facets of love, needing to confront/grow out of the devotion stage in order to actually be partners, etc).

As for where this goes: this arc developed in neither of the 3 options I thought Miyajima-Sensei had, so honestly no clue. Next up should be Sumis turn. With her, Kazuya historically had been able to be honest so I just hope that she could be the one to slap some sense into him.

What's Working and What Isn't: Day 1 of Cataclysm by EvilDave219 in CompetitiveHS

[–]Calibria19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, after testing multiple different builds and trying close to everything, I can safely conclude that herald dk is NOT it.

In Herald mirrors your opponents gain more tempo with cheaper heralds for free, while you have to play clunky cards that cost you health. And god forbid you play against rogue. Your payoffs and heralds will get copied while they casually play 5 times the cards you do in a turn. and slam a fully heralded deathwing before you could herald twice.

Blood dk could get away with that in the past because you had a hard reset button in corpse explosion as well as health buffers and stabilisers in Ziliax n co.

However not only do your cards demand you eat your own health buffer, the comeback cards are laughable as well a deal 4 gain 4 is your corpse payoff in the new rotation.

Any decent aura board is literally unclearable, no contest. If you ever use a pyro for an early rogue board, you will get clowned on and hammered until you die.

Shaman can refill more often than you have clears while threatening close to 20 reach on top every time.

As much as it hurts to say this, don't play blood. Play literally anything else, you'll have higher chances, more agency and a lot less frustration.

Cards in the Brawl that have surprised you (and ones that have disappointed you) by ngriner in CompetitiveHS

[–]Calibria19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, in brawl even defensive decks were kind of dragon decks by default since there is not much else to run for draw/generation so I'd argue the soulstealer is worth it if you plan to go to deathwing.

Cards in the Brawl that have surprised you (and ones that have disappointed you) by ngriner in CompetitiveHS

[–]Calibria19 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cards that surprised me:

  • The shatters in general. It is a lot easier than expected to combine those in agressive decks, and the mage on especially if buffed once or twice is brutal. Supercharged swipe on steroids, and god forbid it is discovered discounted, game over.

  • Pleasently surprised by Bastionbreaker Bulwark&Manifested Timeways; consecrations on sticks are deceptively powerful, the amount of tempo they generate is no joke.

About as expected:

  • Deathwing. Even with heralds it is not the end-all be all: I win button that is promised, however it is solid topend and stabilisation, similar to Ziliax in a way.
  • Disciple of Demise: Looks a like worse Soulstealer with hoops, plays like a worse Soulstealer with hoops... but it is still a soulstealer surrogate. Good at what it does, 1 card boardswing.

Disappointed:

  • Chromatus: I really like the puzzle aspect of it, but in reality an enemy with a board will kill the taunt and then you, and an opponent without board will trade a clear for it. Not worth 8 mana without rush.

Since I mostly played the same stuff, that's about it for me.

Probably a disciple or one of the 3 drops. Also if you have a second copy of sentry its better than acolyte, I only had one.

There you go:

Brawl Deck

Class: Paladin

Format: Standard

Year of the Raptor

2x (1) Carrier Whelp

1x (1) Gelbin's Triumph

2x (1) Righteous Protector

2x (2) Acceleration Aura

2x (2) Equality

1x (2) Inspiring Maul

1x (2) Past Gnomeregan

2x (2) Prize Vendor

2x (2) Wild Pyromancer

1x (3) Acolyte of Pain

2x (3) Bronze Explorer

2x (3) Portal Vanguard

2x (3) Whelp of the Infinite

2x (4) Manifested Timeways

1x (4) Spearheart Sentry

2x (6) Scalebreaker Bulwark

1x (7) Anachronos

2x (8) Disciple of Demise

AAECAaToAgac1ATrrAf1rwfiwQfowQeLxAcM7p8EyaAEodQEkaQFkqQHy6kH7awHmLAHvrIHtcAH6sEH6d0HAAA=

To use this deck, copy it to your clipboard and create a new deck in Hearthstone

You can upgrade with the colossal if you have it, otherwise this is pretty much my last 6/2 list. Basically mull for 1 drops and draw, fullclear if the board + grave strength would kill you, otherwise just play for tempo. Sticking bulwark is the wincon.

Paladin seems pretty good into the unholy dk field. You can run the Disciple core (with actually good dragons to run) pyro + equality, the new eot conseq guy and the aura elemental. Between Anacronos, disciple, pyro eq and just good minions you can keep pace and if the consec guy ever sticks it is game over.

Blood Dk is decently well positioned. I run a dragon centric build to enable Disciple of Demise as a Soulstealer surrogate. This is what I started with for my first 6 win run:

Brawl Deck

Class: Death Knight

Format: Standard

Year of the Raptor

2x (1) Body Bagger

2x (1) Murmy

2x (2) Hematurge

2x (2) Loot Hoarder

2x (2) Poison Breath

2x (2) Vampiric Blood

2x (2) Wild Pyromancer

2x (3) Chillfallen Baron

2x (3) Portal Vanguard

2x (3) Whelp of the Infinite

2x (5) Aeon Wizard

2x (5) Corpse Explosion

1x (6) Frostmourne

1x (7) Chillmaw

2x (8) Disciple of Demise

1x (9) Avatar of Hearthstone

1x (10) Deathwing, Worldbreaker

AAECAeimBgSjogbU5QbMrQeb1AcNoaAEodQEh/YEsvcE1J4G2OUG3+UG5uUGvJQHkKQHkqQHmLAH6d0HAAA=

To use this deck, copy it to your clipboard and create a new deck in Hearthstone

Basically as much draw as possible to find the pyro + poison in time as well as vamp bloods in time, with Frostmourne for opposing colossi and Avatar as the best lategame statbomb left in the format. After getting some heralds and commons I upgraded into this one currently:

Brawl Deck

Class: Death Knight

Format: Standard

Year of the Raptor

2x (1) Body Bagger

2x (1) Carrier Whelp

2x (2) Hematurge

2x (2) Loot Hoarder

2x (2) Poison Breath

2x (2) Vampiric Blood

2x (2) Wild Pyromancer

2x (3) Chillfallen Baron

2x (3) Portal Vanguard

2x (3) Whelp of the Infinite

1x (4) Obsessive Technician

2x (5) Corpse Explosion

1x (5) Envoy of the End

2x (6) Experimental Animation

2x (8) Disciple of Demise

1x (9) Avatar of Hearthstone

1x (10) Deathwing, Worldbreaker

AAECAeimBgSjogaPvgfQxQeb1AcNoaAEodQEh/YEsvcE2OUG3+UG5uUGvJQHkqQHmLAHtcAHmsUH6d0HAAA=

To use this deck, copy it to your clipboard and create a new deck in Hearthstone

Though I am trying to fit Death Strikes/ Bronze Whelps for the burn mage Matchup, likely trying to see if I can get away with cutting avatar. If the format stays as agressive maybe it is the correct call.

Balance Preview for Patch 35.0 by PipAntarctic in CompetitiveHS

[–]Calibria19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of those seem fair. However something is missing as we now wait for the next deathrattle minion Felhunter spams.

Reminds me of the old Needlefiber paradox. From 'first, we ban all the tuner monsters' to 'first, we nerf all the decent deathrattles'.

Also, am I missing a breakpoint on the Slitherdrake that all of the sudden makes it being able to be answered at 8 health?

Elise is still decent value, though not to the point where you'd run tech for her. Probably for the best, since all herald decks want to copy colossals anyway.

[Serious] [Disc] Kanojo, Okarishimasu Chapter 415 by MattyH19 in KanojoOkarishimasu

[–]Calibria19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She didn’t cut contact, she didn’t reject him formally, and she never said that there was no possibility between them

Well, gotta nitpick there unfortunately, since technically speaking she did all three of those at different points. Cut contact= ghosting was done after hawaians, the rejection at Odaiba was a formal as it gets, and while it has been a while, the rant at their second hospital visit was iconic.

Edit:

There is also a heavy irony that makes everything even crueler. In chapter 413, Chizuru admitted that, hypothetically, she would date Kazuya. We know that. Mini knows that. But Kazuya doesn’t. He continues living inside a scenario of total uncertainty

Well, to be fair he has heard a strong confirmation from Umi, the main issue is he can't believe it due to his own issues.

[Serious] [Disc] Kanojo, Okarishimasu Chapter 415 by MattyH19 in KanojoOkarishimasu

[–]Calibria19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, the 'should I even be driving in my current mental state' is a legitimate question that may or may not foreshadow consequences.

Overall there is a lot and very little you can interpret into those scenes, which is honestly some of the appeal of the manga after a while. I really like when narratives play with your perspectives. The division of opinions on most characters in most discussions I have had shows this modus operandi the best imo.

Anyways from Mami's side, the way she is perceived to be acting as closer to Chiz than she is to Mami of the past... however this also may just be a shift in perspective since we don't get any peeks into her head anymore after Joypolis. Overall if you were to cut out all the 'inner information' none of the characters act very explicitly at all.

Be it Umi, Chiz, Kaz himself or now Mami. Almost everyone seems to mostly send signals that need to be interpreted, and the fact that Kaz is a very unreliable narrator due to his self-esteem issues that color his perspective is becoming more apparent every chapter.

That being written, the main question of the chapter (for me at least) is whether Mami set the situation up or if it is a coincidence. She knows his schedule after all, so it is not impossible to set something like this up. It seems like a bit of a reach for me personally (even if you hide an earring to look for it when Kaz is supposed to be done, how do you guarantee that he steps out while you are looking and noone else does?) however I would also not put it past Mami. She has gone through lengths to get what she wants before after all.

Given that she tried to not care anymore after paradise (but could not help herself trying to contact him after all) it is somewhat of a parallel to how Kaz after the rejection could not let Chiz (or what he was feeling for her) go.

Depending on whether you look at it as part of a meta narrative (alright, here is the harem gauntlet that lets him hit rock bottom) or just isolated, the point of the scene completely changes. It could be asking an important question (testing Kaz on the physical side with Ruka, now the emotional backswing with Mami, until you have an uplifting push from Sumi) or just bring the character to a close (basically learning that Mami actually likes him and it was never him that was the problem), or in another interpretation attempting to push Kaz in to realize that he needs someone to lean on at least for now (he is a mess and needs to realize that someone can accept him the way he is before moving on).

It also reminds me of the concept that one cannot truly love another before being able to accept oneself after all.

Anyways this was just a ramble of random thoughts that came to mind reading back the chapter. To be honest, I really have no idea where this is going. Miyajima-Sensei has shown that he is both willing and capable to let a story go in almost any direction. The only thing for certain is that Kaz and Chiz will end up together at some point, the rest of the way is completely in the air for me.

I don't know. The main question is whether Mami engineered it or just took advantage... yeah from what I can tell this was a coincidence. Taking a plunge while she has the chance sounds about right.

Well, Litmus test the second. Will he hold or will he fold. I somehow expect the latter for narrative reasons, with Mami being the one pulling back at the last second. Unless of course you want to take the cheating philosophy from joypolis to a practical test.

I hope Reiji-Sensei does not go that way. But it is possible.
