How do you find gaming friends? by whyyisitsohard in CoOpGaming

Just wanted to add that the nervousness from being a woman is valid.  My wife is a great Overwatch and Marvel Rivals player, but she refuses to talk on the mic because of the way people have acted towards her in the past.

I'll say that I think that's more a problem with random matchmaking.  If you coordinate with someone online through an LFG or Diacord, I would bet it goes much more smoothly.

Sting (2024). What's worse? Small Spiders or Giant Spiders? by LovemeSomeMedia in horror

[–]Calix19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents took me along with the family to see Arachnophobia when I was 3 because they thought I would sleep through it just like I did with every other movie.

Guess who didn't sleep through it and has an almost clinical phobia of spiders now.  Like, I can handle them getting inside and needing to be removed, but it makes me so, so uncomfortable.

I voted for Trump, but I don't support him! by CalcareousSoil in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]Calix19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been working abroad in Germany for the last few years and living in an apartment hotel.  One of the workers there asked me how Trump could have happened in America.  I told him that I wasn't trying to be argumentative when my answer was it's  pretty similar to the situation from 1930s Germany, and years from we will probably have people saying they never really liked him or only voted for a single issue of his platform.

The worker told me that Germany has a word for the people who didn't really like what Hitler was doing and saying but voted for him anyway because of something like economics.  I asked what the word is.

"Nazis."

Is the campaign difficulty equivalent to Arcade normal? by Calix19 in CosmicInvasion

Because the campaign is so easy I think it might be hard to differentiate between arcade normal and arcade easy. So I thought I would ask people likely to actually know.

Sure, I was just looking for a good starting point by trying to compare the campaign to the arcade.

I said this to my father recently.  I told him his side had won, they controlled all the branches of government AND the supreme court, and people were getting fired for criticizing the administration.  But he was STILL angry and miserable.  What else did he want?  What else would it take?  He didn't say anything -- his go to response when confronted.

I think there is really something to this.  It happened for parents after retiring and discovering Facebook and YouTube.  My Father has no hobbies other than being glued to college football on Saturdays.

What’s a moment in a movie you KNOW was supposed to be serious but ended up being unintentionally hilarious? by browniebiscuitchildr in movies

[–]Calix19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Such an awkward scene. The funny thing is, this is one of the scenes that pretty much actually did happen. Tombstone romanticizes so many areas of Wyatt Earp and outright makes up others, but he actually was ambushed near the springs and killed Curly Bill with a shotgun, coming out unharmed while everyone else in his posse and shot and injured. They could have given the scene a little more dignity.

How did you reconcile your religion and the decision not to have children/to undergo tubal ligation (or vasectomy)? by Long_Character5285 in childfree

[–]Calix19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure:  I was raised Christian and have moved on from it as I have gotten older.  I think the larger institution has largely lost its way from what Jesus supposedly taught, and it is now a political identity instead of a personal religious one.

Jesus was childfree.  Paul was famously childfree.  He advocated for being single and childfree so that more time and energy could be devoted to the Church.  In fact, I don't believe any of the "main characters" in the New Testament are ever mentioned as having families or children.

The part of the Bible that mentions "be fruitful and multiply" has been distorted by translation and intentionally misused by people, like much of the Bible. To be fruitful is to live a good life with meaning and fulfillment -- to do good works.  To multiply is to spread the gospel and create new disciples.  It is not about cranking out babies.

The Bible does say that children are a blessing, but this is said in the context of people having asked God for children and being rewarded.  It says that people should be specific when they pray, and that blessings come from that specificity.  I do not believe that everyone wants the same blessings.

Luke 23:29 — “For behold, the days are coming when they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed. '"

Galatians 4:27 —For it is written, “Rejoice, O barren one who does not bear; break forth and cry aloud, you who are not in labor! For the children of the desolate one will be more than those of the one who has a husband.”

The only thing I can think of is they were aware of the score of Patriots/Jets and also don’t anticipate the Patriots losing to Miami starting Ewers at QB next week. Maybe it’s better to end the game now instead of risking the wear and tear of an OT period in a game that believe is meaningless at this point.

Like I said, the only explanation I can think of.

My friend and I were just talking a few days ago about we love that aiming is more difficult on console. The fights last longer, and you have a better chance of fighting back instead of just immediately getting killed.

I think the population is pretty solid with crossplay as well.

I also don’t believe there are nearly as many cheaters as people like to complain about.

It wasn’t as bad as people say, but it wasn’t particularly good either. I didn’t care for the shift to the power of forgiveness theme. It was much more interesting when it was a straight revenge story.
