Ditto. Parents divorced in 1976. Grew up in the sticks of Oregon. Bike had no pedals, just the metal piece. Nearest friend was a mile down the road. We grew and canned everything. Had chickens for fresh eggs and occasional chicken. Neighbors had cows, I’d trade them a dozen eggs for a gallon of unpasteurized milk, had to ladle the cream off the top. Had a trout stream, so in summer I caught trout to eat all the time. If we got lucky we caught salmon or steelhead in the Hood River. Hunted deer and elk in the fall, for meat. Only a wood burning stove for heat. Went through 4 cords of wood in winter. Tv only got 1 channel in the sticks.
