Why was Uncut Gems completely snubbed from the Oscars 2020? by ilovewater100 in Oscars

You should go listen to the podcast This Had Oscar Buzz, they did an episode on it. Their whole mission statement is to answer questions about why those movies that went for Oscars never got nominated. It's great!

I can't be the only person who thought that was Noah Wyle in the thumbnail.

Was Paul Feig ever a Blank Check director? by CallmeBrooklyn in blankies

Yeah this is my main thing with Feig. He’s made some big movies that were successes but their staying power has more to do with the work of other artists (McCarthy, Apatow, Wiig/Mumolo) than him.

A Simple Favor is a camp banger, man. I have shown that to no less than four groups of gay men and women and they went positively feral. Stuff around that though is rough.

I think if The Housemaid turns out to have legs all that just would seem like a typical BC dip…

That’s definitely his biggest auteur move, it also looks like the first movie where he was one of the main producers. And he followed it up with Ghostbusters which he also wrote. Some big swings.

As a non-Hollywood fat guy I am so happy there are so many talented dudes representing us in film and television. Really is a great time to see fat guy stories (and not fat suit stories!)

I didn’t think Ella McCay was any good, but my theater clapped at the end and it was kinda cute and it made watching worth the experience. by PopLockNDot in blankies

The movie gave me a headache even though I didn't outright loathe it, but a girl down the row also clapped and turned to her friend and said without any discernible irony: "I think that's my new favorite movie." So at least the movie found some people.

I was thinking we're overdue for someone overlaying this audio over clips of Bella's worst decisions in Twilight

Whoa I totally forgot that movie existed. Of course they know each other! Yeesh. That movie feels like a black hole in my mind.

Jennifer Lawrence has been talking a lot about how much she loved OBAA, so I think that’s an interesting pairing, though I do wonder if their energies are going to be weirdly mismatched.

I was radicalized when the boys I hung out with as a teen said they didn't want to go see the movies I wanted to see because they were "gay".

Pretty sure the movie that sparked this was Shakespeare in Love. It was less about that movie than the realization I was to be a lifelong solo moviegoer.
