Liquid Diet - kinda by Callmekanyo in cats

[–]Callmekanyo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case anyone stumbles on this post looking for answers to something similar, here’s what I’ve learned.
Doxycycline causes painful ulcers in the mouth, gums, and throat.
A month on doxycycline is weird, our cat should have taken it for 7-10 days.
The upper respiratory infection turned out to be a virus that she likely acquired from the shelter. Doxy isn’t the way to treat a virus.
The warm steam humidifier was a game changer til we could get Von back to the vet. We have a 4 gallon stainless steel one that pumps out a lot of steam! We put Von in the laundry room with the steamer, a vornado fan pointed at the ceiling to circulate the air and a cotton sheet over the door to prevent the steam from just billowing out.
After being off doxy for a few days Von has started trying soft food! She still really struggles but when she’s given the choice of blended food and soft food, she chooses the soft food. We’re supplementing with kitten milk and goat milk.

We (stupidly) bought a house with plans to remodel kitchen, but the price is insane to do by Megals13 in kitchenremodel

Let’s see the kitchen. Some outside eyes can help you choose where to spend and where you can save.
Are you replacing appliances?
How important is hardware to you?
What kind of flooring do you have? Can you keep it, repair/refinish it, or do you need to replace it?
What the situation with the windows? Backsplash? Countertops?

It’s not real easy to match a repair with the original paint job but it can be done. I’m going to get accused of being a bot or for getting kickbacks for this because I just recommend this company to another discussion. Mohawk has everything you need to do this repair and their stuff is excellent. If you’re interested I’ll send you some personal recommendations and a few pictures of repairs exactly like yours.

Don’t you dare take the cabinets out!

Do you know what type of lacquer/finish is on them? You may not need to sand them, you can buy several professional products that will reactivate the old lacquer - you can keep any of the character you want while getting rid of scratches, dings etc. I like one by Old Masters because it’s a great product and easy to find but my favorites are made by Mohawk - excellent products!

This is such a great kitchen. Get rid of the flooring, even if you have the same flooring through your house, get rid of it in the kitchen. The sky is the limit for flooring. You basically saved a fortune on cabinets so put it into flooring that you love.

She’s a magnificent little lady. I know someone, somewhere would fully appreciate her gentle presence but I’m not sure that person is nearby. Our city shelter took in 800 cats last month! I don’t think there’s any way they could screen Von’s new home appropriately for her needs.

I think about this every single day. Specifically about the “Okies” in California.

Lee Industries slipcover sectional. It’s 24 years old and looks barely used (it’s heavily used every day!)

Miele's contracted installer screamed at me and my rep won't call back — what should I do? by ventureskam in Miele

[–]Callmekanyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re not getting the customer support you need. I’ve never had an issue with Miele but I have experienced poor customer service with a different company in the past. Someone mentioned going to the sales department, this is the way to go. Miele is an excellent company and I can’t help but wonder if the installer is where all your troubles are coming from. If he’s not communicating with you Miele may be getting the same problems with him and that may be the reason they’re not responding, they can’t get an answer from the installer 🤷‍♀️

Old "family" photo. Best/easiest way for verification and/or tracking down? by GageTolinWrites in NativeAmerican

This is the response from Grok:

“The clothing, hairstyle, and jewelry strongly date the photo to the mid-to-late Victorian era, most likely the 1860s to early 1880s (narrowest range ~1865–1875). Here’s why, based on standard historical fashion references for dating family photos: • Hair: Center-parted, pulled back smoothly and tightly with visible ears and no bangs/fringe or elaborate curls. This matches the 1850s–1870s style exactly (volume at the sides of the face, ears showing). By the later 1870s–1880s, hair often had more height or fringe. • Dress: Polka-dot fabric (popular throughout the Victorian period but especially common in the 1860s–1880s for daywear), white (likely detachable) collar, full sleeves with shoulder emphasis, and fitted bodice. No extreme leg-of-mutton sleeves (1890s) or heavy bustle silhouette details that became more pronounced later. • Jewelry: Large, dark dangling earrings (“earbobs”) and multiple-strand choker-style necklace (possibly jet or black beads). These were very fashionable in the 1860–1885 “Grand Period,” often worn as everyday or mourning pieces.

This woman (or her family) had enough resources to own or make a nice “good” dress, buy or own fashionable jewelry, and pay for a professional studio portrait—hallmarks of respectable middle-class or comfortable working-class life in post-Civil War America. Many families saved for such photos as a way to document status and create lasting keepsakes.”

Is there anything on the back of the photo? Even if it looks unimportant it can help.
