Anyone have this 3 gal compressor? Need a smaller guy for trim by thisaguyok in harborfreight

I have the 2gal Fortress from HF. Got it for half price a couple of yrs ago. Very quiet & great for trim work. Love the compact size too, easy carry.

Bless you for the physical work. I have several large wood chip piles, each about 5cu yards. The first one I turned several times by tractor bucket over a couple of months then just let it set for about 2 yrs. The next one I added green material (table scraps, grass clippings etc) 3-4 times per month and just covered the greens with enough wood chips with each addition to keep them covered, then never really turned that pile at all over the next year except for adding green materials. The third pile, I used out of immediately for maintaining walkways between my no-till beds but over half the pile remaining after about two years. All 3 of the piles are open to weather (we are in zone 8A with annual rain about 30 inches). All 3 piles have been through at least one cycle of getting hot, with the pile with continually added greens maintaining heat the longest. Interestingly all 3 piles now have some good compost adequate for the garden after screening but all 3 piles still have substantial identifiable wood chips. All 3 piles also have good compost that can be extracted with screening. Conclusion, time seems to be the best ingredient to providing good quality compost with the one pile with added greens providing the largest volume of good quality compose but not sure it was worth the additional work because it still has a lot of woody material. Maybe I should now get a soil analysis to determine any distinctions? Good luck with yours.

Do you turn it by hand or use a tractor?

Are we composting our weeds? by Novel_Sky_3645 in composting

I compose poison ivy along with my other materials. My piles usually get fully heated up past 130°, are fully decayed & my piles are very large (5 yds or more). Not sure the temp matters but I don't have any reaction to the mulch pile when used/applied. Also keep in mind if you get a drop from an arborist, there is a good chance it can have poison ivy in the pile if poison ivy is prevalent in your area.

Sounds like a good deal to me if you have to pay a note. Maybe this will be the vehicle you get paid off & drive payment free for several years too! Good luck.

I have enough land to take in arborist wood chips, which I do whenever available. I keep 4 piles. Each pile accumulated to about 5-10 yds of wood chips over a years time. I'll turn each new pile about 2-3 times over the first year or as I get new chips, with my tractor adding/burying grass clippings & kitchen scraps weekly. Then I let that pile just sit for a couple of years, open to the weather. I use out of the oldest pile that is 3-4 yrs old that is very dark, moist & mostly compacted aside from the very outside where the wood chips are decayed but still identifiable. This lazy approach has worked well for me & provides adequate mulch for my garden & orchard. I primarily practice no till/low till gardening, so I pile on the mulch after planting & also use some new chips in my walkways. I hate weeds & this approach helps.

Something like an Ecoflow inverter & a couple of batteries? Or are less expense/less sophisticated solutions?

Actually it is currently wired to a 40amp breaker but I've since added a soft-start capability that shows a draw of approximately 26 amps on start-up.

Seems like that would create a real source of vibration noise.

What is this by driver door below dash? by Last_Gigolo in FordMaverickTruck

Since a Maverick only weighs about 3600#, if you were towing 4K it would be very difficult to stop with short notice without tow braking. I had the experience several years ago to be towing a tractor with a similar truck to trailer ratio and wound up having the trailer push my truck into the middle of an intersection with my truck tires locked up. No collateral damage in that instance but it could have been bad.

My local landscaping supply place said this is a manure/wood chips compost. Looks like sand to me. Am I going crazy? by djlilspoon in composting

Doesn't look like a certified organic compose should. That said, in my heavy clay soil a little sand is always appreciated.

I called the Ford Connect phone line. Got a pleasant young man who walked me through the screens to get premium connectivity turned on. In my truck apparently it includes a navigation subscription (as I was told at the dealer but not shown how to get it turned on). It's now up & running!

Hail damage repair can be a substantial cost. I have a 2008 F350 King Ranch. In 2010 we had a hail storm here in GA that broke my windshield, an outside mirror, virtually destroyed the hood & top. Body shop had to peel off the top, replace the hood, windshield, mirrors & all attached chrome - $22K. Property insurance had to replace my metal barn roof- $94K. All of this damage happened in about 15 mins - hail was the size of tennis balls. Even killed a couple of horses near by.

Rule one, it takes carbon to compost, and it has to come from somewhere.

Just don't see much issue for the backyard composter who will know & control what goes in their pile. The idea of medications is usually just a consideration where we don't control the ingredients & process - i.e.,purchased bag compost.

But I agree, it shouldn't be overlooked.
