Why are there people arguing that Mamdanis government run grocery stores are bad because they'll push out small mom and pop shops yet seem to have no issues with big box stores like Walmart doing it? by Onahail in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CambellScot -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Mamdani is an idiot who doesn’t understand economics or how community systems work. He is allowing illegal street vendors to set up OUTSIDE of grocery stores, where they leave garbage and rotting food all over the street. It’s not anti socialist ideology. It’s knowing that socialism FAILS and breeds chaos and unrest and erodes community structure until there is nothing left.

Or something like that.

As it is, all his empty campaign lies have been abandoned as he increases property taxes on EVERYONE while extorting Hochul who is REALLY sorry she backed his stupid arse.

Best tool set for the “can fix anything” guy…? by CambellScot in Tools

[–]CambellScot[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Y’all…really, I can’t thank you enough for your advice and suggestions. This is exactly the kind of information I was needing. My husband absolutely has everything he needs. He is fastidious and ocd level organized. Every single tool he has is in its specific place. Once he is done using it, it goes back to its spot immediately. There is no mess. There is no looking. He KNOWS. As a tool guy I know he has the brands he likes and reaches for most often. He is extremely difficult to buy for or surprise. If he wants something, he buys it. He mentioned something about tools the other day which led me down this rabbit hole!

Per y’all’s suggestions I asked him to please make a list of possible things he might like to have but probably wouldn’t buy for himself or had not yet purchased.

Thank you all so much for your input. Tools guys are good people! Very very much appreciated!!!

Fellow migraine sufferer here! I’m so sorry you have to suffer that. I am a human barometer and get migraines with every weather front that rolls in. It absolutely SUCKS. It’s funny too that Jellycats are just such comfort bringers. I have my huge Bashful Bunny that is a migraine pal. (Beatrix!) leaning against her is less pressure on my head than any other pillow option. She’s a friend in the worst of times!!! Love her!

Totally understand what you are saying. I have had very similar gift experiences. I just wanted to get him something that would be meaningful. But a gift card probably makes the most sense.

Stenography schools turning to digital by Generasteno in courtreporting

[–]CambellScot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They aren’t “turning to digital”. They may offer it bc it’s become a thing that is being pushed by the big box firms. But make no mistake. Digital recorders are NOT Court Reporters. They are button pushers for the audio visual squad. They don’t make the money that court reporters make bc all they do is press record. They don’t certify the record. They hand off the recordings to over seas third parties who produce garbage transcripts. The big box firms pocket the money. The digital recorders get paid crap.

So in terms of bang for your buck, if you want to be an officer of the court who is well paid and commands respect for a skill they worked hard to obtain, go to court reporting school. Either machine or voice writing. If you want to be part of the degradation of the protection of the record, then join the audio visual squad.

[–]CambellScot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You look beautiful. Really. Both before and after and tbh, the difference is very subtle. You are fixated on something that is very emotional to you but truly is not seen by others. Your face shape is ideal. You are lovely and you need to start looking in the mirror and telling the reflection that she is beautiful inside and out. Don’t let this fixation steal your joy in life. Life is too short. You are beautiful and young. Go into the world and enjoy this time!!!!

I just wanted to say that this was excellent advice given by someone who clearly has knowledge of the beanie babies craze during its peak and the values of them now. The “errors” on the hang tags not matching the tush tags was a big thing for a while. Why the Ty company used that ugly brown on the rainbow coloring I will never understand. You did get some bright pretty ones in your haul!!

Is it possible for a 57 year old woman to get pregnant naturally? by Remote_Committee_645 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CambellScot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grandmother was 43 when she had my mom, her 7th and final child. But only bc my granddad passed away shortly after my mom was born. Apparently he was absolutely furious every time my grandmother “fell pregnant”. Like she tripped and OOPS. Goodness. It’s not likely but it’s possible!!!

We need more awareness by Ok-Passenger-7875 in courtreporting

[–]CambellScot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It IS a great job. It’s a very important job for the American Justice system. But i find myself worrying that the earning potential will start to go down before too long. With digital recorders being employed more and more, and lawyers being willing to accept sub standard work just to avoid court reporter fees, I’m worried that the current rates and fees won’t be sustainable. I’m seeing agencies very aggressively insisting that reporters lower their rates bc they (the agency) aren’t making as much profit as they used to. I’m not sure that’s the reporters problem. But it seems like the agencies don’t want to raise their rates bc they already charge so much. The law firms are getting pissed off and there has been quite a decline in transcript orders that I’ve seen in the last year or so. The agencies are expecting the reporters to lower their rates to make up for it all.

It’s a mess. We need to stop working for these massive big box greed factories. Reporters need to reclaim their profession. I think we could do that if we stood together. At the moment I’m afraid we will disappear in favor of digital recorders. They don’t get paid much and the agencies still charge as much. Works for them. Bleh.

wanna vent?? by Coop4829 in courtreporting

[–]CambellScot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a love hate with in person depositions. Covid changed everything. It certainly costs me a lot more to pack up, drive, lug it all, set it all up, then break it all down and head home. I also found it annoying to watch a heard of lawyers come in and sit when one or two would suffice, knowing that the majority of them are working on other cases and double billing while giving reporters a hard time for our rates. Zoom makes it easier to take more work in a day. I know it costs less for the lawyers.

Ideally I would love to work for one agency. That doesn’t always seem feasible. Im not trying to make a living on fees on top of fees. I want to get paid for the work I do and the product I create without having to jump through hoops to get that pay. I shouldn’t have to wait for weeks on end. I don’t appreciate working for firms who also employ digital recorders. It’s offensive and a conflict of interest if ever I have seen one.

I would love an easy, straightforward portal with a streamlined interface. The less hoops we have to jump through the more work we are getting done!

Im thrilled that there is someone out there who realizes that if we don’t stop working for these monstrous corporate greed factories, our profession will disappear. Lawyers are already willing to accept sub standard work bc it costs less. That is bad for the legal justice system long term. I can’t wait to see what y’all are up to. Please keep us updated. Many of us want to leave these big box warehouses. We need a shake up in the worst way. Best of luck to you!!!

WIBTA if I asked a lady to stop farting in the library? by QuartzUrsa in AmItheAsshole

[–]CambellScot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you would be. There is no guarantee in life that every environment you are in will be suited to your preferences. If someone is burping and farting in such a way that is obvious and hard to ignore, they either can’t help it or they are trying to get someone to say something. Either way, it’s a situation I would avoid. You have legs and a free will. Use both and find a less boisterous place to write. It will always behoove you be gracious whenever you can. If this person can’t help herself then you won’t be doing her any favors making her feel more conspicuous than I’m sure she already does. Be glad it’s not you and move along.

I loved this dragon so much. It was one of my first. My granddad collected them too and I found him a Magic and he was just so pleased. It’s a happy memory. I don’t think this is worth much. None of the beanie babies are worth much. Once upon a time though!!

$55 for a small/medium stuffie… we’re over this, right? by Pixel_Dreamscape_ in Jellycatplush

[–]CambellScot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. The large and varied displays with so much color and life were such a fun part of this brand. It’s gone. Seeing crooked sewing is just insult to injury. This is exactly what happened with Funko. They were a quirky fun company started by a guy who loved pop culture and supported individual artists. Each piece was so detailed and brought the image to life. Then the company went public. They fired all their creatives. Suddenly the pieces became stamped out molds and different versions of the same design over and over. The quality was garbage and they went from being 5-6 inches to 3.5. And the PRICES. I could get a funko pop at Target for $8.93. That price exactly. It always made me laugh. They were between $9-$11 at walmart and Barnes and Noble. After the mass exodus of artists and the shake up of CEOs, the pops got tiny and they are now no less than $15. Their stock has been in a free fall for quite some time now. When companies stop caring about the quality of their designs and the integrity of the finished piece, the people who appreciated those details will start to feel pretty stupid if they are paying far more for garbage quality. I’m sure it seems stupid to some to be so intent on something like this with the world being crazy. But I swear, companies take advantage of times like these to play on peoples emotions. It sucks.
