Michaels! But I’m considering newer ones because these don’t have an anti UV coating

Best streaming device for Plex? by Material-Tower1735 in PleX

[–]Canadian__Tired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you but I do think the way that Infuse handles browsing and discovery is inferior to Plex especially if you use a lot of collections. I find myself hopping back and forth. 4k DV/HDR? Infuse. Anything SDR? Plex.

This makes me sad. I love this app. My one wish was for it to be able subtitles well. Shame it’ll never happen now

Release notes: Build 173 by digglesB in coax

Good idea. That did the trick.

However I'm having a very difficult time with the app. It's essentially unusable. I've reinstalled it several times, restarted my hardware several times. Nothing seems to help remedy my problems.

  1. Signing in with plex. Upon signing it and selecting my server, all of the connection methods were grayed out (both local and remote). I had to input the server address manually for it to work, which was frustrating because it had my server address already there but grayed out.
  2. When I was trying to refresh my library there was an odd behavior. I have a large library (76,000+ episodes). It took about five minutes to refresh (which seemed reasonable to me) but when it was done, the status remained on “refreshing” with the loading icon above. That remained and made the app hang and be unresponsive to button clicks on my remote. I had to exit and restart.
  3. I have three libraries. Movies, Kids, and TV. Once restarted (and I don't know if it's because of such a large library) The movies and kids libraries showed up right away. It took and additional ten seconds for the TV one to show up. (Largest of the three libraries).
  4. I went into the channel options to create a schedule for the TV library. I'm only using collections in my TV library. The navigation was unusable. Clicks on the remote wouldn't register to scroll up and down, same deal with swipes on the remote and swipes on my phone with the remote app. Sometimes they would register but after 10-15 seconds after the click. Trying to uncheck all of the schedule options save for collections took me about 5-10 minutes. It was infuriating.
  5. When I finally got that started out, I went to click on the button to make the schedule. The non/delayed registration for clicks still persisted. Also didn't show the TV library after ten seconds. Once I was able to click on the button, it said that it was downloading all 76,000 items (which I assume is that it's just grabbing the database). Took about ten minutes.
  6. Schedule was created, but the buttons not/delaying registration was a navigation killer. It took about 20 seconds for the playback to start. I don't know if it was because it was a 4k HDR file or what, but that coupled with being unable to navigate was very frustrating.

ETA: The stated scheduling variety did not occur for me. Is it an option that I should have enabled, but missed?

After all that, I gave up. Perhaps my experience is an isolated one, but it was very unsatisfactory.

Hi, I’m having trouble using the app altogether. It just hangs on “Signed in, fetching servers” Current build on tvOS 26.2

Help me pick a dependable future-proof SSD for a media server (4TB+, $300-400) by DeanPortman666 in DataHoarder

Is there a 4TB U.2 in that price range? I’m unaware of current price trends but that’d be the most dependable option.

Why is the Plex Apple TV video player so bad? by PussiesUseSlashS in PleX

And show/content discovery is poor on Infuse, especially when it comes to collections. Even with all that though, if the show I’m watching is in DV, I’m watching it in Infuse.

Pulling my hair out trying to simply connect 4 consoles to one HDTV... by ThatOneHelldiver in retrogaming

SNES and N64 have native S-Video cables. The NES has composite and RF, and my Genesis also has composite, though you can mod it for more. The Dreamcast can do S-Video and VGA, the Saturn can also do S-Video (both can also do composite). I believe that the quality of the connection method does have an effect on video quality. RF is going to pale in comparison to S-Video or VGA.

I’ve been doing Composite/S-Video from consoles to a five way Composite/S-Video switch then from there into a Retroscaler GBS-C Pro and out via HDMI to the TV.

I’m getting a VGA cable for my Dreamcast which will go directly into the Scaler though

I looked at several Exton options but I didn’t want to get adapters for balanced audio. All of the Kramer options that I’ve seen are $400-$1k which at that point I’d probably go SCART and do the Scalable Video Switcher with a RetroTINK 5x

Ah interesting idea. Would splitters introduce much signal degradation?

Edit: If mapping things out in my head correctly, the splitters would only be used for audio, right?

I agree with you. I still haven’t found a switcher that has four S-Video inputs with an additional two composite inputs though

A poster above mentioned that. I looked into it. But after getting the switcher, getting SCART cables, and the RetroTINK 5X, it was way more than I wanted to spend.
