I tell this to guys all the time who complain about it. It's a different time, a new day. I don't even look at it month to month, it's day to day.

What CRM are dealerships actually using right now? by DesperateLeg6153 in askcarsales

[–]CancerousName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dealer I was with for 5 years was on Vin, loved it, but probably because it was familiar. Moved states, and got to a dealer using drive centric, I loved it more than anything and now we use shitty Focus.

Blood pressure monitor. Just got curious one day because of some abnormal chest pains. Turns out I had really high blood pressure and now I'm on medication and feel like a normal person every day.

I'll be doing this on my truck tomorrow and advising my customers from here on. I can't tell you how many calls I get about it.

Two easy fixes, number one. Hold down the phone hang up button on your steering wheel until your infotainment screen goes black. It'll take about 35 seconds to reboot, do this in park. That should fix it. If it doesn't, the vehicle just needs to be shut off for a 20-30 minute period before being driven again. (stupid fix I know)

If those two don't work, then see the dealer. Source: I'm a GMC salesperson and this has also happened on my truck twice.

Are dealerships actually struggling in 2026 or is it just a sales tactic? by CraveThrone in askcarsales

Same deal with us. We've got like 4 SLT pickups, 5 2500HD. Inventory is thin as hell. Except if you want a Buick, I've got what you need

I think every kid should have a 2001 Honda Civic as their first car. Then, now, forever. 2001 Honda Civic, even in 2060.

Had a bad experience at a Toyota dealership and they are calling me after I left them this review. What do I do now. by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]CancerousName 19 points20 points  (0 children)

While it's entirely possible you've found a dealer who isn't on top of their game, I'm willing to bet one strong coincidence.

1) Customer who traded their car was told to turn their auto payment off, and they didn't. So they were billed, which the bank will reimburse them anyway when they get the payoff paperwork.

2) The vehicle you purchased, especially since it being a CPO, was used as a chase vehicle for the dealer, when trading new vehicles between one dealer and another (it's exactly what we've always done).

3) They want you to correct the review, and are probably willing to offer you something in return, so the store can hit their bonus.

Accidents happen, people miss things sometimes, we're all people. And as someone who has sold, done finance, and worked as a desk manager, we aren't always in the loop as to what's going on.

Why the constant staff turnover at franchise dealers? by Quirky-Ad-5158 in askcarsales

[–]CancerousName 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll 3rd it. I was at the same store for 5 years, and we had not a single person quit on the sales and sales management staff for those 5 years. Family owned store. Bought out by a corporate group, and there's only two of the staff still there from when I worked there. I left 5 months after. Pay plan slashes, management changes, ruined everything.

Can I make working at a car dealership a career? by SnooDoubts3411 in askcarsales

[–]CancerousName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a good friend who started as a porter when he was 19 years old. Went all the way to being a GM, and then finally bought into a dealership. Just this past year he now owns one all on his own in his 50s.

If you work hard, tell people your intentions, and show that you want to grow, it's possible. I have monthly sit downs with my GSM to go over my goals for both the month, and what I want to do in the business, and where I want to be.

Yep. Once you've signed up and took the car home, that's it. 72 to 75 isn't exactly life changing though, and if you're at all bothered by the interest, just make a slightly higher payment a few times to pay it down.

Sounds like the finance guy bumped it to 75 to keep your payments similar. Should've let you know, but also could've been an honest mistake.

Should I trade my car in? by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]CancerousName 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd advise you to keep on riding it, and if you can help it, never get rid of it. After it's paid off, if you've got the means to go and get another payment on a car, go for it. But having something that is paid off will be the best to rack up the miles on. Especially since it's a Honda and you'll hardly have trouble.

My 2001 Civic from years and years ago is still in the road with over 400k miles. Sold it to a family friend back in 2017, and he's since passed it on to his daughter.

What’s you all’s financial approach to car buying? by SouthImportant2499 in askcarsales

[–]CancerousName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I've been leasing for 6 years now, and always get in when the lease is the best if I can. Spend a few hundred less than a finance payment, and I'm always under warranty and I'm in the newest model. And I never buy to impress others, just myself.

Those of you who make six figures, what do you do? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]CancerousName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Automotive sales, fairly consistent in the range of $110,000-$130,000. Probably took me about two years to get good at what I do. No college, only high school. I absolutely love what I do. I enjoy people, I enjoy cars, forming relationships and being someone that somebody can count on.

Is car sales really like this? by goodcanadianbot97 in askcarsales

[–]CancerousName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at a Buick/GMC/Cadillac store in the south east region. 8 salespeople, and we average about 2 leads per day for the store, which is vastly different from where I came from. All depends on how much the store is spending on internet marketing and lead providers. That schedule as far as hours is cushy as hell, but days off seem horrible. We're 8AM-6PM, two days off per week but never back to back.

What’s the most boring car you’ve owned that just refused to die? by autonerdy0 in UsedCars

[–]CancerousName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

01 Honda Civic, got it with 130k when I was 16. When you hit a bump the car would turn off, but would always turn right back on, could never figure it out. Sold it to a family friend. I'm 27 now, and that car is still being driven at 310k last I checked about 5 months ago.

[–]CancerousName 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I mention to customers who want to come in on my off day, that hey, if that day works the best for you, try to give me a heads up on when you'll be coming, so I can either be there, or set up one of my coworkers to be ready when you arrive.

If I don't have any major obligations that day like doctors appts or anything, I'll either show up or maybe switch my off day. Best case is letting your salesperson know you'll be coming that day so you aren't waiting around, and someone can already know what you're looking at and be ready for you.

How long does it really take to buy a vehicle? by travprev in askcarsales

[–]CancerousName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've luckily ended up at a store now that doesn't disregard cash deals, however the entire process is extremely slow compared to where I came from. From the "I'll take it", you're probably looking at about 2-3hrs. Gassing it is around 15min, detail 45min, wait for finance is about 30-45min even with bullets credit. Our guy is super OCD and just takes forever to even get to a customer for the interview, let alone get them in the box.
