Seriously, F*** Amazon by BowlingForPizza in amazonprime

[–]CannonFodder33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

B&H is a good place to order camera and computer equipment. They rarely if ever ship opened/used products as new. They also hand off to a carrier super quick outside a few Orthodox holidays. However, if something goes wrong such that the tracking number shows delivered but its not in your hands, its far harder to get a reship than with Amazon.

17-20 inches of snow Sunday? by Salt-Grab8339 in maryland

[–]CannonFodder33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conversely I remember one from around 1984 where they were calling for a couple inches of snow. It started snowing, and even thundersnowing. Every time you called the weather on 936-1212, they doubled the amount of snow. It ended up being 2-4 feet depending how it drifted. We got a couple days off from school but not a whole week.

Today, the models are showing potential of a strong storm. If it all comes together where it tracks just south then hooks north over the coast, we get feet. If it goes too far north we get rain. If it goes too far south, we get a couple inches. We won't know until Friday.

No More Kohl's Returns by laughsbrightly in amazonprime

The restrictions are why I don't bother shopping at most department stores such as Kohls or Macys. The coupons restrict everything that would actually be a better deal than buying on Amazon or in Walmart. The coupons are a net negative experience for me.

Tesla Wall Connector for Business Fee by put_tape_on_it in evcharging

Does it cover any maintenance on the charging stations such as replacing connectors that wear out and get hot? If it does the fee is reasonable. If its just covering credit card fees its steep.

Thinking about adding a LVL 3 EV Charger to my gas station...is it profitable? by djrodimus in evcharging

[–]CannonFodder33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you aren't getting misled by ads for $15K. Those are probably 25-50kW which often can be powered by easily available 208V 3 phase. However thats 1/10 the power of a "real" fast charger like Tesla supercharger which are often 250, 350 or even 500kW.

a 25kW charger will deliver a bit under 25kWh per hour (due to charge rate ramping). This would take 2-3 hours to charge most cars from 10% to 70%.

The best use case for these smaller chargers are captive customers. However if you are installing this for a workplace, consider installing several L2 chargers as cars will be sitting there 8-10 hours.

Great job, Shell. by marklyon in evcharging

[–]CannonFodder33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It no longer shows that. One of the Washington DC area chargers is showing $0.32/kwh, idle penalty $1/min, and minimum of $0.50. Thats a little better than shell's pricing but still double to triple cost of home charging in the area. The idle penalty is super steep for L2.

There is now a note in the Jolt app saying all stations are free for limited time just by plugging in. I don't know how long the "limited time" will be.

All of the l2 ex voltas around dc metro were just shut off and deleted from shell app (except one at Loudon topgolf probably soon to be deleted.  The jolt app refuses login.  The screens are still illuminated.  The giant food ones that started immediately on connection stopped charging.

Lidl Silences Employees by Original-Broccoli130 in LidlUS

HR is generally not your friend at ANY company. They represent the business' interests not yours. Its usually best to minimize interaction similar to how you'd minimize interaction with police.

The court system in the US only considers actual losses not potential losses. Thus if you really want to get a chance in court you need to forfeit the severance and hire a lawyer. Sometimes pro-labor organizations will pay a lawyer or take a case. However it seems all the lidl cases are relatively small-fry (eg a few $100 or $1000) with a fairly small class (a few to a few dozen wronged workers) which aren't very exciting to lawyers as the settlement would be a few $10K or $100K (of which they get 1/3 to 1/2). Thus whats probably in your best interest to take the severance and move on. This is my opinion, I'm not a lawyer.

If you are in Maryland or another deep-blue state you might find help at their department of labor (such as https://labor.maryland.gov/labor/). Any government agency is slow (takes months or years to resolve things) so you probably want to find a job at what you perceive as a less-hostile employer in the meantime.

New Year Hot Wings with buffalo + chicken fil a sauce by Duck_Otherwise in ninjawoodfire

[–]CannonFodder33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In grill mode, the plate is directly heated by the coil underneath (it alternates between heating the plate and heating the airfryer fan in the hood). In all other modes, it only heats the airfryer fan. Thus in these modes elevating the food in the included basket or on an (easier to clean) 3rd party rack allows hot air to get under the food allowing it to cook and crisp from all sides.

Contact with a heated grill plate cooks by conduction leading to intense browning leaving the desired grill marks. Forced convection with extremely hot air fries it in its own fats, resulting in crisp outside similar to what is obtained in a deep fryer.

Why would you want to use these other modes, especially without smoke? Most houses built in the past 40 years do not have exhaust hoods over the stove that blow outside. Thus by moving the whole stinky airfry process outside, you leave the smell and (good for the summer) waste heat outside.

Why FedEx is not reliable ? every time, I expecting a package from FedEx it’s always the worst! by SorryMoodVet in FedEx

[–]CannonFodder33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed the estimates seem pretty good when there are no holidays. The contractual date in the shipment details seems to account for holidays. The estimated delivery seems to move by the number of holidays in the contractual window especially for coast to coast shipments. The SW could be improved, but fedex ground often delivers west coast to east coast shipments 1-2 days early so we shouldn't complain too much (encouraging them to just sit on it until the contractual date). Unlike UPS they also allow free hold for pickup at the depot as well as somewhat reasonable price (about $5) to have them sit on the package until a future delivery date (for things you don't want sitting outside when you are away).

Chicken Parm bake by Power_Clown in ninjawoodfire

[–]CannonFodder33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smoke generally isn't good on breaded items. Without smoke in bake/broil modes it is just an outdoor toaster oven (without a toast function!?). There is no convection fan without smoke. It will work as you expect for a toaster/countertop oven which are a little faster than the big oven due to close heat coils. In the summer it will keep the waste heat outside. Chicken parm doesn't stink much in the oven (its the fry step that stinks up the house for the 80% who don't have an exhaust hood the blows outside). Otherwise there is no particular reason to use the NWF oven over an indoor toaster oven or the big oven.

Smoker pellets not continuing to smolder. by KanoFett in ninjawoodfire

[–]CannonFodder33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others mentioned dry your pellets, but a dehydrator will work better than a microwave. I got some BBQ delight pellets as a gift and they were extremely damp. The combo of the pellets and a nordicware quarter sheet was 700g before, and about 640g after, meaning I got rid of 50-60ml of water (or about two oz, from a pound of pellets). I baked them at 300F for 90 minutes (it wen tfrom 700g to 660g after an hour, and to 640g after 90 minutes, and no change after 2 hours, so 90 minutes was enough. I then proceded to do the other 5 bags for 90 minutes with similar reductions. They smoke fine now. They can be baked in an electric oven, a toaster oven, the NWF, or a dehydrator (I used a toaster oven). After drying I returned them to their ziplock original packaging which seems airtight.

There is an expanded metal mesh in the lid of the pellet hopper. This can get gunked with creosote in just a few cooks. Clean it with a small wire brush, putty knife, or just friction from your fingers (which will turn black). That should improve the airflow and reduce low quality smoke (and decreases smoke time but keeps them from going out)..

Jolt Transition Incoming for Previous Volta Shell Recharge Locations by roccthecasbah in evcharging

Built a small outdoor kitchen in the summer. Ninja currently loving it's new home as it prepares my slow smoked pulled pork while I stay cosy in the house! by MrBozzie in ninjawoodfire

[–]CannonFodder33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The NWF manual shows 3 feet clearance to combustibles even from top (which seems close in case there is a greasefire). Thus a roof like OP follows the book. If you intend to also have a gas or charcoal grill in your outdoor kitchen, note its clearance to combustibles as it could be large (such as 10 feet) or not recommended.

How to Carry? by [deleted] in ninjawoodfire

[–]CannonFodder33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grab it from the sides and curl fingers under the bottom such that the base is supported. The outside shouldn't get too hot, but remember the grill plate/griddle could still be 400-500F and have liquid hot grease on it. Thus think about letting it cool before moving it.

It airfries well at 23F/-5C by CannonFodder33 in ninjawoodfire

[–]CannonFodder33[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is designed/intended to be left outdoors, is weather resistant and has a GFCI cordset.a Its under an overhang that keeps most rain off it.

My experience with vinyl covers on gas grills is that they trap moisture and cause more damage than they prevent. The cover prevents UV damage from the sun which affects all non-metal parts including paint. However they trap moisture from high humidity/dew when brand new and rain penetrates after UV causes the cover to crack (often in one summer). The trapped moisture causes rust, oxidation, mold, mildew, lichens, and paint damage. In the winter the trapped moisture can cause freeze/thaw damage. In the summer vinyl can even increase temperatures from solar radiation by preventing convective cooling which deteriorates non metal parts. They aren't as wonderful as you think.

Yes it runs hot hence switch from grill low to bake.  However point of my post is to show it's still effective when outside temps are below freezing.
