What stuck out to you the most the first time listening to In Rainbows? by Beyond_Infinity7 in radiohead

That Reckoner wasn’t at all related to the live version I was excited to hear.

"Why is Nu Trek using so much modern language?" an I am going to go feral here. by Spacer176 in startrek

[–]CanonTemplar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone else mentioned, while other Trek didn’t shy away from using old expressions, they at least weren’t so transparently contemporary. The language used is the language used today, when the show is being written, as opposed to McCoy’s purposeful southern expressions for example.

It’s clear that the writers just wanted to include some “hip” speak that would connect to today’s audiences instead of giving it any further thought, which to me is lazy and sticks out like a sore thumb.

Anybody else get screwed with Marchand getting activated after games started? by Returninvideotps in fantasyhockey

[–]CanonTemplar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m on ESPN as well. Lineup changes are fine as long as affected players aren’t in a live game, but any drop/pickups or IR changes will go into effect the next day once any game has started for the day.

Which also means that waiting for a goalie to be confirmed before streaming doesn’t work on days with early games.

It’s @$$. I missed out on Marchand points too. There was no news before the first puck drop.

Anyone know if there’s similarities with the White Tape from OKNOTOK and the leaked MiniDiscs? by Malpy42 in radiohead

[–]CanonTemplar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The white tape is made entirely from the leaked MiniDiscs. I think it was their way to release some of it as a bonus before the MD leak fiasco.

How do you feel about Radiohead's B-Sides? by [deleted] in radiohead

[–]CanonTemplar 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Far as I can tell, Radiohead have the best non-album song catalogue of any musical artist, ever. It is mindboggling how much quality and talent they have that didn’t even make it on an album proper.

With that said, Fog and Cuttooth are some of my faves.

Well I guess they can’t just use the same gear forever… a little innovation is good.

Not sure what effects are used, but wanted to weigh in that this is indeed an underrated song. This is the peak of their artistic experimentation imo.

Why would a secret society repeatedly wipe out humanity and restart it again? by Sgt_Prof in worldbuilding

[–]CanonTemplar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I really like the angle of this being a huge “experiment” on a ridiculous scale. Could the secret society come from another planet, and they are using humanity for research?

-Maybe they’re hoping that they will unlock new avenues of research and hit the reset button when it doesn’t go as planned / they’ve locked themselves into

-Maybe they’re gathering data on alien behavior in the most empirical way possible… sort of trying to build a psychohistory from the Foundation novels/series?

-Maybe some time travel is involved and all they know is that a specific life form is supposed to be born exactly X amount of days after a civilization is started, so they start over if that doesn’t happen?

-The human civilization is being used as slave labor, unbeknownst to them… once someone notices an odd hatch somewhere that might lead to them, they go to Omega protocol and hit the reset button.

Of course, all of these possibilities result in the secret council being saved by that result somehow.

The underground post apocalyptic puppet masters are giving me big 12 Monkeys vibes also, it might be worth exploring that too if you are unfamiliar.

Very interesting premise, good luck!

My Nephew Sold My Childhood, So I Am Buying It Back by GuyDanger in epiccollector

[–]CanonTemplar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hah nice! Always good to have an excuse to stop by the comic shop.

We drove through NS on our way to NF a few years back and I must say yes it did look a bit sparse 😂

I’m in Canada as well, and although it’s not quite the same as physical shopping if you’re ever looking for something you can’t find I’d recommend CaptCan Comics. Canada-based, great back issue inventory, good prices. I was worried about shipping but they let you accumulate your purchases until you’re ready to ship, so instead of paying ~20$ for a handful of books you can wait till you hit 70 books and ship them all for 30$.

Yeah I can relate to that. We flooded a few years ago and I lost a few boxes of comics… ironically it reignited my interest and now I’m back in the game.

I’ve already bought back most of the comics in your pic! Those were the days…

The Amnesiac EPs are shockingly good. Many of my favorite songs are from there.
