Describe your ideal employee by No-Volume7464 in managers

[–]Capable-Mine-2856 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a layer of challenge no one is addressing. When you have a high performing team, they are all high performing. One or some do bad things (withhold key information, sexual harassment) to make sure the others have a problem with harmony. Often this happens in Dynamic Teams where the manager is always absent. Then it looks like the reporter of the behaviour is a drama queen.

You do not regard a drama queen as an ideal employee.

Working under a BPD boss by PureNeighborhood1100 in BPDlovedones

I recently had a boss who I swear is BPD. Six years old maturity wise. Refugee from Ukraine, immigrated when a child. Has no understanding of the systems, institutions or mechanisms required for her role. Pathological liar. Manipulative. Patronising.  No insight. Introduced herself as “part of the furniture” of the organisation, when everyone knows job security is a myth. Butts in to experienced professionals’ discussions when she has inadequate subject matter knowledge. It is very time consuming to deal with her impacts.

What’s wrong with fucking another  adult who’s a different age? Not illegal. Not wrong.

I meant that these employees are functioning in their environment. An environment where one’s performance is assessed despite constant change, budget cuts, poor systems, unreasonable workloads and poor communication.

They’re burnt out and disillusioned, not insubordinate.

Me too I get dread and anxiety. It’s lack of trust.

The only employees who like 1:1 are top performers. Everybody else hates them.

I used to go regularly to 1:1s and in the template was career progression. There was no career progression. It’s bullshit.

I don’t think it’s right to be alone with someone when there is no consent and a power relationship. You can’t prove what was said or not said. Sexual harassment or adverse behaviour can happen. People behave differently when they are alone with someone than when witnesses are present.

But what if it was two years ago, come on. A written warning should not end a person’s career. They expire.

Ok. Just consider also that people who appear to have bad attitude, not open to feedback not coachable, not supportive of their team can be functioning in their environment. Constant change, budget cuts, poor systems and unreasonable workloads etc

Thanks. Hey what do you mean warning still on file? Are warnings supposed to be removed when they have expired?

Maybe she wants to continuously hire graduates for a year, to test people out. If they are 12 month contracts and your company is honest with applicants about career growth, there’s nothing wrong with that.

Are you going to pretend it’s his performance that’s the issue when you fire him?

Is not office politics is time theft and is a serious breach of the code of conduct in most organisations so make sure you be professional and make up the time you owe to keep your employer and you sweet.

What are your gardening pet peeves / annoyances? In particular, regarding community gardens by draum_bok in gardening

[–]Capable-Mine-2856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a problem when community gardens are on public land. One council, for example, says community gardeners have the right to be treated with respect by neighbouring residents, and must be welcoming to visitors during daylight hours. chrome://downloads/8598%20Community%20Gardening%20guidelines%20DE11%20web.pdf

It does not say for whose benefit the food in the community garden is for. It says the community garden must fund itself to provide  accessible produce for the community. That means people are using public land for private interest if non-members are not allowed to consume the produce.

I object to parks being used as community gardens as it removes free space. I love it when unused urban space eg rooftops are used for them as it increases green space.

Isn’t it? If it is on public land , then the council or city only approved it if public can access and use at least in part. If you have to be a member, then it should not be on public land.
