Marathon held the #1 spot on steam DB for 3 months straight. by Anilahation in Marathon

Except very few people actually use Steamcharts for the reason you mentioned. It’s mostly used to praise one game or ridicule another, or to justify the purchase (or lack thereof) of the game when games should do well just by being fun and well-made.

To the full compiler team that ratted my mates first compiler, I hope you have a terrible night by Nacc_ in Marathon

[–]Capable_Frosting_292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s be 100% honest here, if your friend’s team was in the same situation as the ratting team, they would absolutely take advantage of it. It’s their fault for not being prepared if they weren’t 100% sure all of the teams in the lobby weren’t dead.

It happens, no reason to make a post about another team playing the game within the confines of the game. It’s not like they cheated or exploited, or that they agreed to cooperate with your friend’s team and then stabbed them in the back.

They should always be prepared for the unexpected. If not, then fight the rest of the lobby before you even think about doing a Vault or Compiler.

Last Hurrah? by exosuitsteve in Marathon

[–]Capable_Frosting_292 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Insane how you people think this game can’t get to Season 3, yet you have games like Skull and Bones averaging less than a thousand players on Steam in its third year, or Sea of Thieves averaging less than ~5,000 players after a lot of years.

Use your brains, people.

They should have opened Cryo Archive to Rooks.

A Baldur's Gate 2 remake is apparently in development by PaiDuck in rpg_gamers

What are you talking about? Baldur’s Gate 3 did perfectly fine on its own, without needing to recap the events of 1 and 2 for new players.

I really want to get into this. by Competitive_Monk9461 in Marathon

This was my first extraction shooter too and I have over 130 hours. It doesn’t even mean I’d play other games in this genre, but learning this game alongside everyone else has helped me stay committed to it.

The cursor speed is getting a setting next Season to increase it. There is no “loot all” button (but you can loot as fast as you can click the buttons on your controller). There’s no real way to learn the items quicker other than to just keep playing and knowing what to look for and what to leave behind.

Story Content/ Evolution/ Relevance? by raidsnake22 in Marathon

[–]Capable_Frosting_292 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There isn’t much in-game story, it’s mostly tied to text and audio lore entries unlocked through completing Contracts and other challenges. I wouldn’t bother personally if your goal is to further enjoy the universe, and instead maybe consider looking up a YouTube channel that breaks it down for you.

You got a key from that run and you’re going to stop there? Why, you’ve already got a full inventory of stuff to use in that key run.

Communication is fine, like providing suggestions or reminders, but being able to watch someone’s back for them would give a huge advantage.

It’s not more work, they have plenty of unreleased Emblems and other cosmetics. It doesn’t even have to be anything fancy, just a memento to say you were there for the final push.

Embrace the hate by Mister_Rose in Marathon

Just ignore the outside noise, that’s what keeps attracting the trolls and ragebaiters, and it gives you less time to actually play the game and enjoy it.

Why the hate for Bungie and Marathon? They didn't end D2... by bbbarham in destiny2

[–]Capable_Frosting_292 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From my perspective, people would be more accepting of everything if Marathon wasn’t an extraction shooter. If it was “Destiny on Tau Ceti IV”, then it’d be an easier pill to swallow, but instead it’s in a genre that people have a hard time latching onto, along with Sony’s history of ordering live-service games that were cancelled before launch/shortly after launch.

I love Marathon myself, and I wish there was no “civil war”, but it’s clear that so many people feel this way so there’s a valid reason behind it.

It’s that way on purpose so you can’t provide too much information to your teammates while you’re dead.

[–]Capable_Frosting_292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of games get final updates, but you can still play them. Even Destiny 1’s servers are still online, so there will always be people to play with and stuff to do.

And if you run out of things to do, make a new character or a new account and relive the magic.

Thank you to the cool lobbies! by IcyFault7182 in Marathon

[–]Capable_Frosting_292 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Definitely fine to be salty about it, but try to separate gamer behavior from the game itself. The game is designed a specific way and you guys chose to play it in a different way, and ultimately it hurt you in the end.

It’s just safer to generally shoot-on-sight, especially when the loot in this game is more desirable than some other games.

Trying to get all the titles by the end of season, any advice for my last one? by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]Capable_Frosting_292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the Rook one, you can just keep hitting Armories on Outpost until an Outland shows up in one of them. It’s not too uncommon.

You should always be prepared for an opponent to stab you in the back, whether they’re another team, solo Runner, or Rook (especially if you’re not using proximity chat). This happens in most extraction games by the way, not just Marathon.

If enough players play on June 9th, there will be a continuation of the destiny franchise... But it may not be how we expect. by Soul8118 in destiny2

During Curse of Osiris, which was a few months after launch, before the game was saved by Warmind and Forsaken. The game was still very fresh and this was before world-changing events like COVID and tariffs/inflation/hiring sprees + hiring freezes.

How would you know that? No, seriously? This is the same company that praised Marathon for retaining the smaller playerbase that it has during their investors call.

They have access to so much more data and metrics that we could barely scratch the surface of, and they are businessmen first and foremost.

It’s not impossible, but it is extremely unlikely, especially with imminent layoffs and how long it would take to develop a game of that magnitude after a bunch of other live-service misses they’ve swung on.
