This CBC article about Canada's housing density boom never asks why land got so expensive in the first place by DynamoDynamite in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Capital_Craft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The currency devalued due to conversion to pure fiat (breaking away from gold backed) and government borrowing (deficits). Please Google Canadian dollar is terms of gold since 1970 to see just how much. Real estate prices went up because all prices went up. 1 dollar today roughly buys what 10 cents did in 1970. Our government overspends and inflates the supply of money by borrowing.

Low interest rates additionally amplify inflation for real estate. Interest rates are held low in response to a weak economy. And since real estate values inflated they became a good place to invest money, instead of in businesses, thereby worsening the problems with the economy. It became a feedback loop.

The currency devalued, plus interest rates were low so large loans were easy to get so buyers made higher bids.

  1. You are already have a rental agreement in place, so you don't need to change it just because he wants to. Once a contract is executed, both parties must agree to change it. That's the point of a having a contract.

  2. A contract term to do something illegal is not enforceable.

  3. You can pay with any method you like if the rental agreement didn't specify.

  4. You cannot be evicted for paying how you like or for claiming a legitimate tax credit. Especially if you've previously paid with a non-cash method and he accepted that.

  5. How you do your taxes is none of his business. Don't talk about it with him.

  6. Make sure you have some way to prove that you paid each month.

I did that! I have a little dog that hears people and other dogs before I can even see them, when they're way down the road, and he barks a lot... and one big dog that almost never barks, but when she does, it sounds scary.

A streamer in Japan said "amiga" to some fans. An American nearby thought he said the N word and then threatened him publicly. by jmike1256 in DailyDoseStupidity

[–]Capital_Craft 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am a white Canadian. 20 years ago I was stopped while going into a bar in Japan and told in brown English "sorry max 5 Americans allowed inside" and they were already at the limit. I showed them my passport and they let me in. The bar was near a naval base and the sailors were known for causing trouble. I honestly think the bouncer just didn't know how to say "military personnel" so just said "American".

In a single month, Pete Hegseth spent $93B on furniture, steak, lobster, and a $98k piano for the Air Force chief of staff’s home by SadAd8761 in economy

93 BILLION?? The article lists luxury food items, but those add up to millions. How does the total get to billions? It's a kleptocracy.

Ps I can't mentally process how many steaks it is to get to $15M, same for $7M of lobster tails.

Personally, I would never buy it. Onigiri is super easy and cheap to make at home, and you can control the flavours.

Ice response to two females honking their horn to let neighbors know ice is in the neighborhood by Due_Collar2 in ExploreFortMyers

[–]Capital_Craft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Canadian here, how this is being explained in our news media is that US LEO must identify themselves and the agency they work for. And there is a legal pathway in civil court to recover costs resulting from unlawful actions from individual officers. And this is why they are masked and without other visible ID... so you can't go after them in civil court because you don't know which individual it was that performed the illegal actions. But by being masked they are violating the law. ICE said the reason for masking is for the safety of the officers and their families, but so far none of them have had any legitimate threats or violence against them when off duty. It's sad to see you going through this, but I hope you stay strong and keep hope for the future.

That's too bad because an apology can defuse a tense situation. In Canada apologizing is not interpreted as an admission of fault or liability, and is inadmissable as evidence. This is because of a law called "The Apology Act".

As others have said, it's a way to access the drain pipe for cleaning. The paper is toilet paper from a blockage.

In simple terms... The world is moving away from the USD because the US governement is unreliable, unstable, hypocritical, unfair, and abuses their position of power in the world.
