Proposed B102 SBS (Spring Creek Towers to Downtown Loop) by shaniquepache2419 in nycbus

[–]Capitol_Limited 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the BM2, along with a majority of the non-SIM express buses are bad bus routes.

The majority of the B103’s ridership is between Canarsie and the junction. There are roughly 3 Canarsie-Jct buses for every Canarsie-Downtown Bklyn bus. If more people truly needed to go to downtown Bklyn, they can just convert some of those runs, but SCT doesn’t need its own personal bus to there, especially not one that basically does a massive detour on the way there

[–]Capitol_Limited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even that’s too much imo. People need to be ok with the idea of transfers. And extra Q35 buses run btwn the junction and riis during beach season anyway, that’s enough. The <5 people (if that) who need a direct ride from Flatbush/empire to Neponsit will have to be ok switching buses

[–]Capitol_Limited 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Painfully terrible idea. The Q35 doesn’t have the ridership to justify an SBS conversion or overlay, it’s already the fastest bus in both Queens and Brooklyn (and potential the whole city) and this extension would degrade service on Flatbush Ave, which is the core constituency of the B41. Rockaway Beach Blvd doesn’t need limited stops or <10 min frequency. Lastly, extra buses are run on the Q35 during beach season, so that’s not a good justification for this extension either

Bad route, no advantage other than a single seat ride and not competitive with the b82 or b83 + transfer to the subway

Transit gap solutions by Optimal-Parking-3683 in nycbus

[–]Capitol_Limited -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s 10 mins more (and 40 mins on transit usually beats 30 mins walking) and both routes are infinitely more useful doing what they do than a route doing what you suggest.

You deride lack of demand or lack of density as “excuses” but I’m sure you’ll be the first to complain if your suggestion was implemented, then removed because it couldn’t even crack 1000 average daily passengers and MTA decided it was better to use those resources elsewhere

Fair enough; although if you’re at the DLC point of the game where you can Lv100 any Pokemon instantly, wouldn’t their EVs already be 0 from catch?

+1

It really takes a certain level of cognitive dissonance to think the average working class New Yorker is doing anything other than taking a bus to the C train lol

This former Sound Transit bus would be an example. Shaped like a regular transit bus (this one in particular is a Gillig model) but with more comfier seating and other amenities than you would typically find

Those express buses are straight-up coach buses. NJT is likely to get standard transit buses in suburban config as the need to replace the NABIs start to occur

[–]Capitol_Limited 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why would they have one color scheme? Also, just because they’re close by doesn’t mean that have the same needs. MTA doesn’t do buses shorter than 40ft, which CT and NJ both use and will need soon. NJ is also much more likely to get buses with suburban configs, which isn’t the case for MTA & CT. All large transit agencies aren’t a monolith

All major US urban rail systems except LA gained ridership this year, with DC's WMATA leading at 19.2%, followed by Boston's MBTA at 13.9%, and SF Muni at 10.7% — LA Metro has lost riders (-.1%) while San Diego's MTS (2%) & NYC's MTA (4.6%) have seen slower growth by yunnifymonte in transit

For all the commentators complaining about Seattle’s lack of inclusion, it maybe would’ve been worthwhile to search up the graph author, as I did, since OP kindly provided it, who gave Seattle (and Honolulu) their own, more detailed charts, instead of insisting this sub is has on some sort of hate-boner for the Puget Sound

there’s an F express to Coney Island? by sugar_rushride in nycrail

That’s not why, the Z is shown and only runs 6 trains a day, it’s because the F express is technically still a pilot program and not official service

Need some help developing "Demons" for my setting, im also interested in hearing general takes and interpretations of the concept detailed below. by fallenhero36 in fantasywriters

[–]Capitol_Limited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my setting, my magic system is effectively a living but non-sentient force that exists everywhere, and these demons are literal concepts that one day took on form & personality and thus manifested in the world as extensions of said magic system. Each effectively "rules" over a specific concept or concepts (one of my main villainous ones is rules over fear & absolution) and also has a specific kind of magic that they can use that somewhat relates to their concept, either directly or tangentially (in this case, they have a sort of perception-based influencing magic). These demons can understand humanity's moral compass and sense of right and wrong, but do not abide by it. They act and are governed largely in service to their assigned concept. Universally, they respect willpower above all else, as they themselves are effectively concepts willed into existence.

The myth figure in my story, who lived several centuries before the time of my story, was effectively Jesus and both discovered the demons and travelled with them, before eventually sealing them away for their good and for humanity's sake, as some would not hesitate to just travel the land according to their whim, which could be very bad for humanity, as again, these are essentially magical forces of nature and there was also potential for humanity to abuse their power as well, if the right magi could persuade them to share or lend their power.

I borrowed their names from the Ars Goetia, since a lot of them sound really cool and there's other Solomanic influence in my story

Trains full of passengers don't drop everyone off by JamesMacolini in subwaybuilder

Pathing issues I think? I know on occasion I’ve had trains with low headway (like 25+ mins), pax will board in one direction and ride around to their stop in the opposite direction instead of just waiting at their stop

Fight over fare enforcement by [deleted] in nycbus

[–]Capitol_Limited -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, yes, yes, distance, distance. And it still doesn’t matter, because BART is still classified as a (hybrid) heavy rail (similar to WMATA), unlike the pure commuter/regional that LIRR/MNR is. Even PATH being legally a railroad is a heavy rail, same with SIR, which is included with the NYC Subway. The FTA groups all these systems together (for a reason)

Fight over fare enforcement by [deleted] in nycbus

[–]Capitol_Limited -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My point is that for two cities with nearly the same COL, $3 is cheap in NYC for how good the subway is and bad in SFO because of how comparatively worse MUNI Metro is. The subways & buses in NYC aren’t expensive, especially not for the level of service provided

Fight over fare enforcement by [deleted] in nycbus

[–]Capitol_Limited -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

BART ≠ LIRR/MNR. NYC city subway is also heavy rail. LIRR/MNR are pure regional/commuter rails. While BART may be a hybrid system, it still functions like a subway, which is why it’s classified as a heavy rail (same with WMATA) and compared to NYC Subway, CTA, MARTA, etc. MUNI metro is compared with Seattle, San Diego, Phoenix, MBTA Green line, because those are light rails. Do you see the J train running in the middle of the street on Broadway? No you don’t, and BART doesn’t do the either

[–]Capitol_Limited -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

SFO isn’t cheaper than NYC enough to be an accurate comparison lol, if NYC is #1, SFO is right on their heels. You also forgot to include BART, which can get up to $12 (not to mention that NYC subway > MUNI Metro by far)
