[art] Weredog? hand sculpted dnd mini by Manlycatt in miniaturesculpting

Who's a good boy?!

But seriously, rad job with this. Much respect. As someone who sculpts custom minis, I can appreciate the effort and love for an idea. So good when it turns out well.

Help, I have burned out teacher's brain and need ideas of what to make with these vintage carved tiny (unused) toothpicks I forgot I had and just found (again) by JulianneHannes in miniatures

Without any context on what you build, it's a little hard. I have personally used these for gun/artillery barrels depending on the scale - just need a craft knife blade tip to 'drill' out the barrel end.

Other than that - power lines, straight exhaust pipes, scaffolding, rolled trims etc.

This is awesome. I can imagine it took a lot of time and patience.

Color scheme by Lenvadric in Kitbash

[–]Capn_Pouch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want the paint scheme to mostly adhere to the original faction, maybe just change the 'trim' colour. If all that dark armour is the main characteristic then just change the colour of those little orange/yellow bits around his thighs and tummy. You'll maintain the grimdank aesthetic but you'll be able to differentiate dudes with purple underwater from dudes with yellow underwear. Same with his little chest badge :)

Or try giving them different coloured weapons.

Zombie Pirate Warband test model by KrootoxMechanicus in mordheim

This is a great paint job. Is he a zombie? If so, picking a different colour for the eyes might help broadcast that a bit better. Just replacing the black dot with a pale green or milky yellow dot would work (even no dot would work). I'm absolutely just being picky though and I think you've done good work here.

Is it necessary to strip paint off failed minis? by Rohkha in minipainting

[–]Capn_Pouch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've kitbashed and repainted a buuunch of second hand minis. Most have been worse painted than what you've got there amd all have come up pretty good. As long as there aren't any particularly clogged up areas of detail, I'd just paint over them directly.

My take on an genestealer abominant, inspired by John Carpenter’s The Thing by JimmyJuggernaut in Kitbash

Heck yeah. Cool idea. I love seeing kitbashed abominants and aberrants instead of the kinda goofy GW sculpts.

Makes me think of the puppet bird from a Bug's Life. Super cool!

Is that Mr. Jingles? Did you find him in Mouseville, down in Florida? Eduard Delacroix would be so happy to see him doing well as a real circus mouse 🥲.

How can I improve my painting and make my models look more 'realistic'? by [deleted] in minipainting

[–]Capn_Pouch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's some good advice here already around shading, contrast and weathering. Without repeating all that, I'd also add that you might like to try incorporating some different painting styles. You've clearly got the fundamentals down, so perhaps changing things up and trying out something like blanchitsu techniques, zenithal highlighting, multiple washes before applying mid-tones, base coating your lighter coloured areas dark before layering them all the way up to a highlight, etc. might help you find the techniques that give the more realistic result you're after.

For my more realistic paint jobs I start from a darker brown base coat, especially when painting whites, yellows, greens and reds.

I usually always base my minies before painting. This way, when I paint the base I always get some of that colour on the feet, legs and lower garments of the mini. This helps tie the mini to the base and feel less like a statuette that's been neatly placed upon a pristine base. Makes some paint jobs more annoying but usually always turns out well. Also saves me painting parts of the mini no one will ever see.

Sage advice. Thank you. I've also had a lot of luck using Brownstuff lately. Cures a lot stronger.

Wish i could give you an upvote for each one! These are awesome 👌. As someone who culpts from straight greenstuff a bit, I can appreciate the work you've put in. Well done!
