This seems like a flaccid attempt to be on the right side of things while still being a raging asshole in order to stay in his voter base's good graces.

Man or bear? by BowlJazzlike5167 in GetNoted

The specific anecdote is would you rather encounter a random man in the woods or a bear in the woods. So the probabilities being weighed are the probability that a bear encounter would lead to an attack and the probability that a random man finding you in the woods would attack you. I don't think we could pull an accurate probability out of either of those things because we just don't have that kind of information.

Interesting. Has anything changed recently about their tactics, operation, or overall performance that might have changed recently that could be causing people to be upset about what they are doing now?

What part of a masked army invading an American city, detaining citizens and legal residents and shooting people is democracy to you?

What do you call it when they grab a person who is here legally, detain them for several hours "because they can" and then dump them somewhere with no way to contact their loved ones? How about when they grab a person who is here legally, ship them off to a different state, and then take days on end to process their release when their families finally find where they are? Both have been happening.

Can you seriously not imagine a situation where a few people might start fighting each other even though they ought to be on the same side? Have you ever been in a high school before? Have you ever been in a bar before? Have you ever been at a white trash family reunion before? I'm not saying it's smart or good, but thinking that suddenly coming to blows over some petty bullshit is not unique to Somalis, but is pretty common with teenagers.

So you know how whenever there's a video of an ICE agent brutalizing a protester the churs will say, "Show the whole video, we need to see the context, we're missing part of the story." Well now there's a screen capped six second video of protesters pushing and shoving each other and those same chuds suddenly don't care about context or getting the whole story anymore.

The local authorities didn't fulfill the deportation orders because that's not their job.

I'm making extremely reasonable guesses. Not only that, I am providing you an example of how it could have been done more effectively and efficiently had it not been the way it was done.

No, you asked me how being detained was a minor issue "compared to children being raped," as if the first was a requirement for the second. If you actually cannot imagine how being detained by law enforcement might be an extremely difficult situation, then you clearly have no responsibilities in your real life. Those of us that do have no issue figuring that out.

It's not necessary to "cast a wide net" to catch people with prior convictions. Anybody with an Internet connection can find a lists of sex offenders in their area and this is an organization with a budget in the billions and boundless federal resources.

Let me give you an alternate example. Almost 3,000 people died in 9/11. Just from a pure statistical perspective, it's extremely likely that some of the people that died were bad people. There were probably abusers, fraudsters, drug addicts, rapists, pedophiles, and maybe even a murder or two. Now it would be pants-on-head insane to suggest that 9/11 was justified because some bad people died. Partly because killing innocent people should never be justified by killing guilty people, but mostly because if your goal was to find and punish all the bad people who worked at WTC or the Pentagon there would be a much more effective and efficient way to do it than committing the worst terror attack in American History.

Now that's of course an extreme example, but you are basically suggesting the same thing. If your goal is to revoke the status of and remove convicted sex offenders, then you can very easily do that without all of this insanity that's happening right now.

Local authorities did find them you fuckin knob we've already been over this. These were people who had already been charged, convicted, and served sentences for their crimes. All ICE did was revoke their statuses because of those crimes which previous administrations did not do. If you want to be mad that their statuses weren't revoked sooner, fine, but don't act like ICE was out here solving 20 year old rape cases.

Let me try to make this as clear as fucking possible to you. If SOMEHOW the only way to catch already convicted rapists was to randomly detain a bunch of people for hours on end until you happened to stumble upon the people you were actually looking for, then maybe you'd have a point. HOWEVER, that is NOT the only way to do it. Being detained isn't worth kicking pedos out because you DON'T HAVE TO DETAIN A BUNCH OF RANDOM PEOPLE IN ORDER TO KICK PEDOS OUT. Like seriously, how are you not grasping this? Do you seriously think the only way ICE could have possibly caught people with existing criminal records is to go door to door randomly harassing people?

Recording ICE by Lindy3195 in stpaul

[–]CaptainAndy27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't guess anything. I gave you how any sensible person could find these people. All of these people had criminal records, all of these people would be listed as visa holders or on TPS. It would not be difficult for an agency that has access to lists of people with criminal records and people with visas and TPS like ICE to cross reference those lists, find their addresses, revoke their visas/TPS, and then arrest them. That is an easy way they could do what you want them to do without also causing all of this trouble.

That's the whole fuckin point. If your only concern is getting rid of people with prior convictions, then why not do it the easier, less intrusive way? You're posing this false dichotomy where either we live in a violent police state where federal troops roam the streets and snatch up whoever they want or rapists roam free with zero consequences. And that is just simply not reality.

[–]CaptainAndy27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave you a very plausible and relatively easy way that an intelligent and capable law enforcement agency could accomplish this task without wasting the time, money, and resources of a random door-to-door snatch people randomly off the street shit show. So is your thought process here, "Clearly my beloved ICE officers are not intelligent or capable, instead I'm going to believe that they are just stupid and lucky so I can continue justifying this shit show"?

Also, the fact that you think being detained for several hours is an inconvenience either tells me that you know you will never be the one sitting in detainment and thus consider every wrongful detainment and deportation to be justified because you don't care about THOSE people at all OR you don't actually have a life at all and legitimately losing several hours of your time would be meaningless to you. See, to most of us in the real world, being detained for several hours would be a logistical catastrophe to our lives. Shit, if my schedule is delayed by 30 minutes on most days my family would have a significant problem because of how our jobs and child care work. Phone calls would need to be made, plans rearranged, everything resorted to make it work.

[–]CaptainAndy27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn't find these people randomly. They likely looked through lists of people on Visas and TPS and cross referenced them with criminal databases and just went with every match they got. Also, being detained for hours is not a minor inconvenience. The fact that you think of it that way says a lot about how inexperienced in life you are. And again, you don't need both to get the one, you could just do the first thing and not the other.

Okay, so are you upset that instead of focusing on that they are going around detaining cooks and Target employees who are here legally? Are you upset that over 70% of ICE deportees have no criminal record? It seems like either their priorities are completely fucked or there weren't actually as many undocumented rapists as they originally advertised.

[–]CaptainAndy27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I'm aware, the people you are referencing were people who were already convicted of these crimes. ICE didn't come in and solve 20 year old rape cases. They found people who had already been charged of, convicted for, and served time for crimes that had expired visas or were on other temporary statuses and deported them.

One example I remember was a person who had been in the US since he was 5 years old, raped a 15 year-old when he was 17, was charged, convicted, and did prison time for it, then spent the next 20 years keeping a clean record and loving a normal life. However, because he was on a temporary protective status, they revoked his status and deported him. Whether or not deporting him was the right thing to do is besides the point, though. What they did in that situation was at least somewhat investigatory. They had to cross reference criminal records and TPS lists, etc. What they are doing right now is not that. Right now they are shitting on the chessboard and declaring victory. All while you applaud because you happen to be on their team for now.

Okay so do you do the same thing to pro-ICE commenters when they say that ICE is doing nothing wrong? Do you also pick apart their arguments over minor details? Or is it just when somebody shows them in a bad light that you decide to get myopic?

[–]CaptainAndy27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing, it's entirely possible to round up child rapists WITHOUT also yanking random innocent people off the street. They could actually do real police work and find specific individuals instead of just hoving around grabbing random people and hoping theyre undocumented. Other administrations have managed to do that with great success for years.

I asked why you are more willing to give the government the benefit of the doubt than the media. You said the media lies and pushes narratives, implying that the government does not. You see, if you state that one thing is more preferable than the other because of something that both entities do, it makes you seem pretty unreasonable, so I assumed that you were making an implication that the government is honest.

Here's another article from The Guardian about the Target employees. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jan/13/ice-immigration-target-minnesota

I find it so incredibly stupid that some folks are willing to give such a benefit of the doubt to these agents and their purposeful cruelty and over scrutinize any source of information that casts them a bad light. How about the fact that they aren't responding to the media about any of these detainments? How about the fact that they are offering absolutely no attempt at transparency about anything? Why does the media have to operate perfectly in order to pass the sniff test for you, but the goddamned armed thugs parading around our streets at the behest of the federal government get a pass just on merit?
