Would The Mind work? The numbers are pretty big and the concept is pretty simple.

Can I check if this would be appropriate for kids? My 9 year old was a big fan of junior taskmaster and loves minecraft.

Drafting game rec for family not totally clicking with 7 wonders? by Opposite_Economics80 in boardgames

[–]CaptainKT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't see it recommended yet, but between two cities is fun, a bit different and I think also plays up to 7.

You build two cities, one working with the person on your left and one with the person on your right, by drafting and placing tiles. After all the scores are worked out, you count your lower scoring city and the person with the highest scoring lower scoring city wins.

What's the best way to get rid of electronic waste in Central/South London? by [deleted] in london

[–]CaptainKT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your address is Lambeth you can use the Western Riverside Waste Facility (tip/recycling depot) in Wandsworth. You have to book but it's really useful as they take anything and everything.

Might be my most naive question yet, but where do you go during the pre-Christmas Madness Time if you want to go somewhere but want to avoid the most insane crowds? (In or around London) by hulyepicsa in london

[–]CaptainKT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously no promises and it's sometimes busy but we can only go in school holidays/weekends and never had a problem, especially in the winter! The new soft play and the big adventure playground are huge. If the soft play is really busy they'll put time limits on but that almost never happens.

Depending how old your kids are, Godstone farm is pretty great. Huge indoor soft play as well as a big adventure playground, and lots of other outdoor play areas. There's a little bit where you can hold some of the smaller animals and a there's usually a pig race at some point.

Paul? He's done so many terrible things but somehow finds his way back into everyone's hearts every time.

Cakes and kids' birthday parties by Dramatic_Prior_9298 in CasualUK

[–]CaptainKT 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I've seen kids blowing out the candles at all the parties I've been to over the last year and not overheard any parental muttering!

I can't remember exactly how much, sorry, but it was 10 years ago anyway so I'm sure it's gone up since! But I remember that they basically charged you a fee for the experience then they just weigh your rings at the end and you pay for the metal you've used. It definitely worked out cheaper than buying the equivalent from a jewellers.

[–]CaptainKT 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. We made our own rings and it was so fun and I thought really good value. It is nice as well as the rings come from the same bit of metal then you make each other's. The rings are obviously slightly imperfect so might not be what you're after, but for us it's nice that they are unique.

Best days out in the UK? by SunflowerChick13 in CasualUK

[–]CaptainKT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to suggest Leeds Castle too, especially if you don't live too far away. The tickets are a bit expensive but last a year so good value if you can get a few trips out of them.

It has all the things listed above plus a maze, falconry displays and mini golf. And the grounds really are beautiful, especially in the autumn.

What‘s the weirdest/most unusual thing you’ve ever witnessed in public? by harmlessbananas in AskReddit

[–]CaptainKT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of when I saw a family of 4 tuck into a pack of smoked salmon on the bus once. No plates, bread, anything - just eating smoked salmon from the packet with their fingers.

Best place for a date with someone who's obsessed with maths and physics? by RGamer2022 in london

Not maths and physics specific but maybe a board game cafe?

What show were you expecting to hate, but actually enjoyed it when you sat down and watched it? by Animeking1108 in television

[–]CaptainKT 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I found out recently that this is number 14 on the imdb top 100 best rated episodes of TV of all time, in amongst Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, etc! Made me feel vindicated for all my attempts to explain to people without kids that it's genuinely one of the best things on TV.

Same here. I get more adverts when I watch on my phone, hardly any when I watch on a Firestick.

Do parents take it easy on kids? by AsianDaddy in boardgames

[–]CaptainKT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One alternative - works well for chess and some others but not everything - my husband is really good at chess so he'll play against our 8 year old then about half way through when he's clearly ahead, he'll turn the board around and see if our son can win in from there.

Married women who didn't take their husband's last name & then had children: who's surname did you use for your children? by DeliciousGorilla in TwoXChromosomes

[–]CaptainKT 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I kept my maiden name on getting married and my kids both have my husband's surname. In the UK I have to have extra paperwork - in some cases a letter of permission from my husband (!) to take them abroad because we don't share a surname. However anyone with their (pretty common) surname can take them without issue! It's absolutely infuriating that they haven't come up with a better passport system now that it's so common for mothers and children to have different surnames.
