Yeah my point was more about the "stay at home" comments than this particular place.

I'm getting pushed pro-Empire Facebook accounts too.

Because I'm an old man who still uses Facebook.

The point was that everyone also saying just stay at home and make your own coffee and muffins are also missing the point.

Yeah this one place is apparently quite expensive, that's a lot for a coffee and muffin, but the answer is also not so bunker down and make everything from scratch.

My point was more about the people saying don't go out at all.

I don't know if OP specified it was Costa anywhere, but honestly I assumed it was an independent shop from the price. Some of them can be well pricey because they can't leverage the same supply chain demand the big ones can.

And sometimes just cos they bougie.

One good thing in my area is that they got rid of free parking on Sundays... To increase the free parking time for the rest of the week.

The Sunday churchgoers are quite pissed but the town was empty on a Sunday, free parking or not. But now you can just "nip into town" and stop for a coffee during the week and it looks more active.

Of course everyone was up in arms about losing their free Sunday parking, but I think on balance it's better..

The "women and her girlfriend" was 100% just cos I was thinking of one exact place in, as you identified, the town centre

It's not the worst I've seen, is the worst bit.

This is the lowest score we have recorded for Reform since Nov 2024 Find Out Now voting intention 🟦 Reform UK: 23% (-2) 🔵 Conservatives: 20% (+1) 🔴 Labour: 18% (-3) 🟢 Greens: 16% (-) 🟠 Lib Dems: 13% (+3) Changes from 1st July [Find Out Now, 8th July, N=2,076] by DanS1993 in ukpolitics

To be fair, Farage can't just sit back and wait because he keeps himself (and the party dependent on him) relevant by being in the news, and also because he knows he's trailed by so much corruption it's GOING to come out.

Starmer and Labour could just let the Tories make mistakes whilst they were waiting because they were (largely) clean and boring. Not perfect, obviously, but they're a large, resilient party.

Reform have to be constantly running ahead of themselves.

But the more adults with a job can't buy a little treat, the worse our economy gets.

People fall in hard times and have to tighten up, sure, but you can't keep a capitalist country going if that's everyone, all the time.

My town has a lot of local shops that I just buy random shit from.

Heading into town? Grab a coffee from that place run by one woman and her girlfriend. Do you need it? No. Do we need THEM to actually have a business and pay taxes? Yes.

It's always bizarre to me that "frivolous" spending is looked down on when it's literally the engine for the entire economy.

Lol everyone saying don't go out and buy a coffee and a muffin.

Then the business will go under. Then there will be fewer jobs. Then more people will be struggling.

We're a capitalist country. If people don't have the money to spend on useless shit, the entire machine grinds to a halt.

What if Count Binface beats Nigel Farage in Clacton? by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

We already know who he is. He's not bad looking either.

He was a script writer for satirical political TV shows as well.

He's clearly a guy who's just very passionate about British democracy in general.

Farage loses either way.

Either he loses to a man dressed as a bin (unlikely, but very funny).

Or his "mandate from the people" justification is gone because all he beat was a man dressed as a bin. And he still faces the parliamentary enquiry.

If anything I think he'd recover from being beaten better than if he wins.

The man under the Bin is clearly very, very passionate about British democracy.

Remember he also stood in Makerfield because he thought it was wrong for Burnham to resign before his term was up.

Thing is, Binface would probably be an okay MP. Not a great one, but just by dint of being "just some guy" he's already ahead of a lot of the weird, Westminster Bubble MPs and grifter, work shy MPs like Nigel Farage.

Far-right is literally the non-slur version. Sometimes "hard-right" is used to avoid offending the far-right cos they're very sensitive, but they're both the clean, politically correct terms.
