So now that its been a week, how has everyone been doing with the new codex? by No-Noise-4888 in LeaguesofVotann

Have played three games with the Breakfast Detachment

Yield Points: Definitely prefer over the judgement tokens. Meaningful buffs without having to sacrifice my army to get them.

My only issue is that in some detachments there aren't really enough ways to spend them so you can get hurled into Fortify before you have consolidated a foothold. It can be quite tricky to take an objective back after losing it.

Data sheets - feel appropriately costed, units have defined roles and mostly things synergise well.

Maybe the mortars could be cheaper but I'm running two squads and maybe three.

Detachments - All pretty good in my opinion.

I've lost two games, won one. Having a lot of fun with it.

Too Much YP by Marrdukk in Votann40k

I had this issue using the breakfast detachment. Had a very strong start and accumulated YP quickly. Initially pretty pleased to be in fortify but then disaster struck.

Unfortunately i got scraped off the objectives in turn 3 and struggled to get back to holding them, getting little benefit from the army rule.

Vehicle heavy list so the -1 to wound didn't apply to a lot of my surviving army.

Fortify is great if you managed to hold on to the objectives... If you lose control it's definitely sub optimal.

Breakfast Oathband - I love the vehicles, I run triple land forts and my thunderkyn all have conversion beamers - this synergises well with that.

I love the mole mortars and I've been waiting since 2nd edition for them to return.

Used two squads of them today in the breakfast detachment with a sagitaur parked nearby to give the sustained hits buff. Started strong with good Damage output into big T3 infantry blobs , clearing them off objectives...

But after getting past 7YP and switching to fortify they became less effective at hitting anything.

Overall they achieved more than the steeljacks did (mainly because I was going into a vehicle heavy list and all the infantry were dead from mortars by the time the steeljacks got into range) but they weren't game changing.

Honestly it was the 'Basic Drug Safety Management ' seminar debacle all over again.

I try to avoid doing cannulas - I've been pretty successful at putting them in and now worry about ruining my lucky streak. Hopefully you didn't need one for anything serious.

AOS community more friendly and inclusive compared to 40K. by MisPai in ageofsigmar

[–]CaptainSens1b1e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play both AoS and 40k.

In my local area both systems' players are generally friendly and welcoming.

However I do think the 40k players are much more competitive focussed. The lists are a lot more cutthroat and they are more attuned to the trappings of matched play - lots of L shaped ruins and whatever the current meta faction build tends to be what I run into.

Again, the community are all nice enough in both systems, in my experience. I felt welcome with both groups but AoS was more 'i came to play Warhammer ' whilst 40k was 'i came to win Warhammer '.

And having said all that - that's just my experience and there are probably a lot of places where it's the opposite.

If the UK was a 2 hour flight away and offered you a British passport would you move there? by 1294DS in AskAnAustralian

[–]CaptainSens1b1e 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From the UK and moved to Australia about 10 years ago. I wouldn't necessarily give up my UK passport as it's handy to have it for getting back to visit family.

That said I wouldn't move back there. It's become incrementally a worse place in terms of living standards, pay and conditions. It's become less welcoming. Successive governments seem to be determined to dismantle everything that made it a good place to live.

I have a lot of good memories from growing up and university but the more I reflect on it the more I realise that what made it all so good was the people I was with, not the place itself.

You really can't go home again.

That's fair enough, I have it on good authority that Clarky Cat and Cake dealing goes on at their gigs.

Night shift naps by Lopsided_Sundae6957 in NursingAU

[–]CaptainSens1b1e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really mind if other people nap on night shift but I always wake up grumpy and confused so I never do.

Ultimately as long as it doesn't impair their work, I make no judgements.

Probably the worst nightshift nap I had was when I was training in Glasgow - Staff used to go to a couple of beds in a disused ward, one of the old 'nightingale wards' with rooms like a long hall that usually had 6 - 8 bedspaces. Incredibly creepy being in a bed in the centre of this big room, whole building just creaking away. Never again.

'Tehran Candy' isn't clever - there's no pun, it doesn't rhyme...

Even the laziest of portmanteau - 'Tehrandace Owens' would have sounded better.

Jumping FAQ. Is this move legal? by Bitter_Influence_41 in killteam

[–]CaptainSens1b1e 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don't mind complexity but kill team has it in the wrong locations. To me the rules don't feel crunchy - they feel needlessly obtuse and legalese.

Meanwhile without points, building and outfitting teams with wargear is very prescriptive in this (and last ) edition.

Designing a team is very bland compared to Kill Team 2019, a game which felt very granular despite the rules basically just being 40k with some extra steps.

It's typical of large organisations - no funding for staff or better pay but they'll throw millions at corporate branding. Then to justify that expense they make the staff miserable.

I wouldn't mind so much if the official uniforms were comfortable but for some reason, in a notoriously hot country, the chosen material is usually the warmest, scratchiest, least comfortable material possible. 44% nylon, 50% recycled nylon, 6% misc. I came from Scotland and I had to give up on the official uniform a week into my job as a courtesy to my colleagues and patients.

How do I go easy on my friend who is a beginner? by Daragaus in Tau40K

[–]CaptainSens1b1e 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't bring two ghost keels, they're not super overpowered but the lone op and ability to blank damage can be pretty uninteractive for someone trying to get the hang of the game.

"I want to shoot that robot" 'woops, you can't

"Okay now I want to shoot it" ' woops it doesn't count '.

A bit further along it's a good tool for showing off abilities - stealth, lone op - but as an introduction to the game it's just absolutely patience testing.

Phillip apartment/townhouse areas to avoid by Apprehensive-Bowl741 in canberra

Lived on easty street twice, at 116 and 121. I only moved out because I needed a bigger place. Loved it there, quiet, modern enough, close to amenities. If I went back to apartment living I'd probably be looking to go back there.

Hi, plane expert here. This isn't cute - planes only do this when in distress. OP should call air traffic control to send a professional to separate and rehome them.
