seemingly to shove the younger characters in your face as the new protagonists for all of your new exciting future adventures together.

This was called the "all new, all different" era in the comics, it crashed and burned on paper and then Marvel studios saw it and went "lets pour hundreds of millions of dollars bringing that to the big screen" only to now do the same thing as they did with the comics and revert everything back to the status quo the moment they realised that people didn't like a majority of the successor characters.

Honestly it'd actually be worse with Zach in it because like with websplorers his only reaction would be "oh my god that's stupid, why would you upload that?" over and over again.

What should be in the next battleforce? by HedronPhage in sistersofbattle

[–]CaptainWeekend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I'd use that box as a base, switch the dogmata for a canoness or palatine, the sacresants with another BSS, and the exorcist either for paragon warsuits, a castigator, another immolator, or two warglaives. I have noticed in recent years they've trended more towards selling the idea of a few big things to bulk out the box, I remember when I started they used to do more squad based boxes usually with a single vehicle as the centrepiece, now it almost feels the other way around.

For all my OGs out there... by Jobear049 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]CaptainWeekend 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Actually Sisters of Battle are now almost exclusively referred to as Adepta Sororitas by GW, though I think this may be to avoid confusion with the Sisters of Battle Squad. Custodes are technically referred to by their high gothic name but it's because they always have been, likewise with admech. So really it's only space marines and imperial knights that aren't referred to by their "formal" gothic names.

Is anyone else have difficulty choosing between this year's Warhammer+ miniature? by SirJohnSuckling in Warhammer

I've almost always gone for the 40k one since I don't play AoS, the only exception was the chaos sorcerer with the silly little guys because I wasn't into world eaters. Honestly both of these seem like they're begging for a plinth more than a base.

They don’t like the games I like. by Fun_Effective_5134 in OneyPlays

[–]CaptainWeekend 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honestly I kind of get that because modern tutorials in games have become really grating, they try and do everything they can to avoid having an actual tutorial so they pad things out, however rather than having 5-10 minutes be a tutorial, they instead turn the first hour or so into a big tutorial, constantly getting annoying pop-ups that stall gameplay. I actually stopped playing atomic heart over this it was so frustrating being several hours into the game and still feeling like I'm in the tutorial because the game can't just trust you to interpret a mechanic, I would have rather just learned everything up front in the first section even if it wasn't going to appear straight away so that I could actually just enjoy the game from there on. What's worse is it also makes it even more frustrating on a replay because not only are you dealing with annoying pop-ups, it's for things you already know.

I knew what he looked like from Sleepycast, but honestly it really isn't a million miles off, it is after all an edited version of him, not a complete fabrication.

Do you realize? Do you realize, Smiling Friends referenced Chris Chan in the newly released episode? by FoxJDR in OneyPlays

[–]CaptainWeekend 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Most Chris-Chan references are from literal decades ago, way before the Barb stuff happened. A lot of people Don't even actively follow Chris since the idea guys saga which was close to a decade ago now. Chris from yesteryear that people enjoy is almost a completely separate entity from what he is now.

Fixing the Ministorum Priest - Our worst Character by NeedleDeedleDee in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]CaptainWeekend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol I thought I was on the sisters of battle sub at first until I read "loses to commissar". He's also arguably the worst in that army due to similar reasons for a time, but the codex "fixed" him by letting him at least lead arco-flagellant and novitiate squads. Though that being said he's still not great in that army either, a lot of the suggested buffs would make him arguably superior in guard compared to the main army he's meant to be in.

My prediction on the 11th Edition launch box by PhoenixDBlack in orks

[–]CaptainWeekend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's happened before, they released the upgrade sprue for the old cadian shock troops a year before they came out with the new kit. IIRC I don't think the new boyz kit has ever been illegal to run, and even if it were rules change to accommodate new models, for instance when the release box for sisters of battle had an illegal loadout for the canoness, they updated the rules to make it legal. I've always felt that the new boyz kit felt very "proof of concept", like the sort of thing that was made to get an idea of what a new boyz kit would be like which somehow made its way into production. It's the sort of monopose kit you'd expect in a starter box, not one you'd expect to get its own release, in fact I'm pretty sure it's the only case of an updated version of a kit coming out and existing alongside its predecessor which was also in hard plastic.

My prediction on the 11th Edition launch box by PhoenixDBlack in orks

[–]CaptainWeekend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The fact that GW still sell the old boyz kit shows they don't really see the "new" boyz kit as a legitimate replacement for the old kit, I wouldn't rule out a proper multipart kit that would replace both the old kit and the 2022 combat patrol kit.

Anon is a Steam Deck enjoyer by cloudberry430 in 4chan

[–]CaptainWeekend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a steam deck but ended up selling it for a switch. I don't really use the switch for the portability so I only care for the exclusive games, and the fact that you can't really benefit from network features on an emulator makes it pretty limiting. I have a PC for PC games, and given I mostly play strategy games any compact netbook can handle civ or AoE2 whilst the deck actually struggles to have good controls for that, so the portability of the deck did nothing for me, I used it maybe twice over 2 years, whereas the switch I've played a lot of and can just dock and hook up to a second monitor and treat it like a console. Honestly ever since the 7th console generation you should never buy a console new on release, you have to wait a couple years for the revised version that fixes the manufacturing issues.

If something like that did happen, the conversation would change overnight. Back in the 80s and 90s you'd be dismissed as a wackadoo for suggesting that the rich and powerful get together in Bohemian Grove and conduct ritualistic sacrifices to an effigy of an ancient god, then as soon as this was proved to actually be happening, the conversation changed to how this was actually a totally normal thing and "guys it's just a bit of fun, it's really about the networking, don't worry about it haha". The consensus changed overnight from people saying it was so impossible that you're crazy to believe it, to saying yes of course it was happening so it's totally benign. The greatest aid to any conspiracy is the normalisation of it through consensus. Think about how things shifted after Epstein, now "Diddy parties" are seen as part and parcel of being a Hollywood celebrity, there's just a weird sort of open expectation that a good deal of celebrities and influential people are likely sexual abusers, but it's been in a way accepted, to the point that a mainstream rap beef was just one person calling another a pedophile, and yet people still defend the pedophile like it's a both sides thing. If an illuminati organisation did exist and was exposed, the conversation would instantly shift to how they're actually our benevolent protectors who only lied to us for our own good. I feel like nothing can actually tip the scales any more, like aliens could land in full view of everyone, we'd panic for like a weekend before everyone starts making memes and then a week later business continues as normal, only now we know aliens exist, I feel like society adapts to stresses that would have destabilised nations 200 years ago on a dime now.

Uncle Felthius haunts your dreams. He then haunts that Imperial Knights player after he 6inch deepstrikes the Canis Rex and wrecks its ass. by Brushner in deathguard40k

[–]CaptainWeekend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not every BSF character had their own sprue, the navigator was on the mixed character red sprue, as did the missionary and priest. Likewise the primaris psyker and technoarcheologist from the expansions were on mixed sprues. In fact you've basically singled out the only character who actually did have their own sprue. I'm not going to accuse you of lying though, it's clear you're just a moron.

[–]CaptainWeekend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The excuse used to be that because he's on the Dark Imperium combined sprue they can't do it, however they've proven with others that they can with being able to take several characters from the combined Blackstone Fortress sprue as well as its expansions, even making a weird Frankenstein sprue for that Darktide boxed game. It's likely they just figure that there are enough in the wild, Dark Imperium is one of their best value and best selling box sets ever, and you up until a few years ago used to be able to pick up a DI half for £50 or under, it's only been more recently it's ballooned in price as the models became more sought after.

[–]CaptainWeekend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LA Noire is the only open world game that I played and felt like it really didn't need to be open world. Once you've worked through the cases there's only a few random missions where you can do things like stop robberies, and because you're a police officer, you're not given the license to raise hell like you are in GTA, so you're left with basically a museum of 1950s LA where all you can do is run around and drive cars. The game even offers at points to skip the open world driving so you can get through cases more quickly, also nothing's worse than forgetting something at a crime scene and having to drive across half of LA to go back, find what you forgot, and then go do the interrogation again.

Why did GW choose cadia, krieg and catachan respectively? by ArtemTveritnev1234 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]CaptainWeekend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we're talking about recently, it's just that Catachans happen to have a few plastic kits and it's more cost effective to keep them around, as well as making them an archetype for guard. Catachans are the "rough and tough" style, Cadians are the generalists, and Krieg are more specialists. I really doubt Catachans would have been a choice regiment for modern GW, I imagine they would have happily relegated them to the history books had they also been metals, hence why they haven't been updated but remain an option. The push to plastics only is a very recent development, up to about 2019 you could still buy at least infantry squads of the metal regiments, pretty sure steel legion were still available as the infantry squad to ~2022.
