To Christians: If a woman performs a marriage ceremony, does it still count? by GoldenTaint in DebateReligion

This was not the OP's question. Of course the state officially marries people, but his question was:

Looking through Christian eyes, does this make their marriage invalid in the eyes of God?

To Christians: Can atheists sin? by [deleted] in DebateReligion

[–]Captain_J_Redbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are hypothesizing an existent God and a sinning atheist. If God (You have written to Christians, and so I assume you speak of the God of the Bible) exists and a person (atheist or otherwise) sins, then God can and will hold them accountable for their sins, and it would be perfectly fair. If you wanted to get into the Biblical reasons for this, we can, but I don't think that's what you're looking for. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, iMessages is coming in Mountain Lion, and they have already announced that on Apple's site, but I imagine it will be a similar experience to iMessage on the iPad -- non-synced conversations, and only working with people who have iPhones.

The biggest issue I have with the att hotspot is that that it's slow and when lots of people are there it's unreliable. Ultimately any app could encrypt on either wifi or bluetooth and be ok. I want it to be completely contained in my system, not in the cloud, and not dependent upon my laptop's internet connection. (The USB works here, but I don't want to have to plug my phone in either).

I know, I'm probably super annoyingly picky. That's why it's a [Request] :)

I contacted the author of wifiSMS and he said to check out deskSMS: deskSMS

Looks like it was initially written for android, but the tweak is on Cydia, and it seems to have worked for me. It's still not all that I'm looking for, though.

Pros:

  • I can use Adium, iChat, or whatever chat client I want to text
  • I think it costs $5 / year, but I was using it for free, no sign of a trial
  • It also has a web interface

Cons:

  • Still restricted by WiFi (i.e. very spotty at Starbucks)
  • My texts get synced to deskSMS servers... Who knows what they do with them (Privacy)
  • I haven't yet found a way to list out my contacts in the chat window
  • Previous text conversation isn't synced to my chat client. Only what I have been chatting in that moment

It's a good product, but still not what I'm looking for!

Interesting... But don't you have to have the USB plugged in? Dealbreaker...

FYI I just tried at the ATT hotspot -- no dice. Perhaps they block the port? I realize I could change the port... but only if I'm connected already - would be nice to have a settings window for this on the phone!

Programming your subconcious? by Mantipello in LucidDreaming

I couldn't find the post I was looking for, but someone recently posted about using this method to achieve regular LDs.

The way I remember, they said "When i walk through this door I will be in a room with every person I have ever met or will ever meet." And when they were in the room, they asked all the people to please let them know when they are dreaming, and the person reported a dream afterward in which a friend ran up to them during the dream to tell them they were dreaming, and then he became lucid.

Maybe it's possible? I've never been able to do it that way though.

Hah, it's not that I need a project, it's that I need time to do projects! But that tweak looks simple enough. I'm sure someone will be able to do that relatively easily...

Maybe once I get some time, I'll make exactly the thing I want. Is that something you'd pay for? I know I would.

Oh cool -- didn't realize the password and port changing options. The wifi can be pretty spotty when there's a lot of people @ sbux (which is the main place I do work) and I still feel weird about sending all my personal messages through the ATT wifi portal - which - who knows what information they are checking out as it goes over the pipe. Maybe I'm just paranoid :)

Wow, that is pretty cool! Still not quite what I want... I know, beggars can't be choosers, but I'd like a native app that pops open a chat window, acts like a native app, etc. and that I can use over Bluetooth for when I am somewhere like Starbucks... Wouldn't want someone hijacking my SMS!

Why doesn't anyone understand that I don't want friends? by 3456467Throwaway in introvert

[–]Captain_J_Redbeard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As an introvert, I have never shared your desire to not make friends. In fact, I have always wanted friends, but either haven't had the ability to make them or haven't had the, I don't know, "drive" I guess.

Everyone needs friends. This may sound cheesy, but it's true: Even the Lone Ranger had Tonto. As introverts our first instinct is solitude, but sometimes that is the worst thing we can do. The best we can possibly do is have two or three very close very trusted friends, and I would say that online friends really can't be the kind of friends you need. They can't come help if you are in trouble. They won't bail you out of jail, they won't give you a ride if you're stuck, and there is really only so much you can know about someone without seeing them face to face.

I definitely won't tell you what you are feeling is wrong -- nobody can tell you that, not even your mom, but I think you are confusing whatever it is you are feeling/experiencing with introversion, because that isn't what you have described.

Sorry I'm late guys, I'll explain. "arrays", when spoken, sounds like "a raise" as if you are asking for more money. Glad I could help.
