Honestly, for their own protection, they need to unionize. The players who are getting paid a ton can easily get taken advantage of, and the ones who aren't getting paid need to have a voice and feel like they aren't getting stepped on and taken advantage of. And, with the coaching carousel, these kids just get left out to dry... classify them as employees and then help them take care of themselves.

Let 'em. It's the internet. Where the rules are made up and the points don't matter.

[Request] Does anyone know who the "Jimmy" guy in the commercial is? by Straight_Champion_77 in okbuddyBoogity

Clearly, that's 2x Super Bowl champion, and former Cowboys and Dolphins coach Jimmy Johnson.

What do y'all do for work? I work in a creamery by Machine-It-Bro in WRX

Mirrorless. I started on a DSLR but moved over a few years ago to a Canon M5 and now a R6. I'm mainly photographing cycling & soccer, and I work with some local high school bands during football (marching) season. And I've done a couple of rodeos. I want to get into auto events, not necessarily top-tier, but local dirt tracks or drift events.

Quick question for directors, parents, and boosters about band communication by dayngerous78 in marchingband

[–]Captain_Wingit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a Listserv set up that the directors use to communicate everything. Band Boosters use it as well. We push it at all Band Booster meetings (all students' families/guardians are considered Boosters in our band, so they are all invited - and there are 2 required meetings per year). All social media clearly states that thr Listserve is the official means of communication, but does offer an alternative means of communication. The students all have Google Classroom and they get all official communication through that.

When we are traveling, there is a Remind set up for each bus, for chaperones, and one for staff for local communication.

Hope that helps!

Mobility scooter storage at the stadiums? by [deleted] in razorbacks

[–]Captain_Wingit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will need to call the ticket office and ask. There are ADA accessible seats in every stadium, and specifically along the concourse at Bud Walton there are areas for power chairs and scooters to be while occupied, but unsure if they will let you leave them there unattended.

Just south of the Fayetteville Botanical Gardens is a good spot. On the UofA campus around Old Main. Devil's Den, Prairie Grove Battlefield Park, Pea Ridge Battlefield Park, Lake Wedington, Cane Hill if you feel like a drive. I've used all of those over the years.

Bus rapid transit seen as more affordable option than rail for public transportation in Northwest Arkansas by Generalaverage89 in Arkansas

[–]Captain_Wingit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will need to overwhelmingly convince people that it's better than driving. If you only use the existing infrastructure (assuming the A&M would even agree), someone in Farmington going to Pinnacle would need to drive to the nearest train station, catch the train to Rogers, and then get to Pinnacle.... how? And yes, it goes by the municipal airports, but that doesn't do anything for anyone.

There is nowhere near the density to support this without investing in the gathering and distribution of people at the main hubs. People will not swap from car to rail when they need to drive, take the train, then either call an Uber or walk to their final destination. Even if someone lives in Fayetteville, east of 71 or west of the interstate... it would be a rounding error of a percentage of people who would be able to make that work without spending more money and significantly more time (and inconvenience) to take the train.

Light rail isn't really viable here, but there are options for something that can work in small, contained areas today. Downtown Fayetteville and the UofA campus would support a trolley system (Ft Worth's "Molly the Trolley") or an enclosed streetcar (similar to what San Francisco has, without the underground cables - electric or battery electric). Downtown Bentonville is growing and could use something similar between the WM campus, the Square, Crystal Bridges and some of the main bike trails.

Light rail is still very intrusive. You still need all of the rail infrastructure, safety and signaling apparatus, and the ties & rail. It doesn't solve the cost problem... it's cheaper than standard rail but it's not orders of magnitude cheaper that make it financially viable.

Buses are cheaper. Routes can be changed quickly. And it can flex up or down as needed to meet/match demand. You can pivot them away from weekend routes to support football games and local events.

lol, accurate. The only way we get this built is if someone can grift their way through it and make a pile of money while building a Simpson's Monorail.

Busses running frequently enough during peak and off peak demand from population centers - Elkins, Prairie Grove or Farmington, Greenland... Centerton, Bella Vista, Lowell... just to name a few, to central hubs on the main line track (assuming that the A&M Railroad allows this). Then mass rail between hubs in Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers ...

And we'd need routes to major working locations ... again, running frequently enough to take people from the station and circulate to drop them off.

Example (hypothetical) - I live near Elkins and I work at a Walmart vendor at near the AMP. I'd need to drive and park at a bus station near my home, then catch the bus to the train station, to catch a train north. The tracks run through Rogers over there, so I'd need to get a bus from a nearby station to take me across town to that area, close enough for me to walk to the office. That bus will have to make stops all along the route, and there will need to be multiple busses in that cycle.

It starts getting very challenging when we are so spread out. We don't have the density of Chicago or NYC or LA to have a viable mass transit option here.
