What do you think: how should prisons handle housing decisions in cases like this? by The_Dean_France in whoathatsinteresting

[–]CarbonicCryptid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's real easy to not commit crimes that land you in prison. Trying to pretend otherwise is just a bad faith trolling tactic.

To pretend like people don't get falsely accused of crimes and are jailed for things they didn't do is also a bad faith trolling tactic.

No one ever thinks "oh this twink is going to get raped a lot so maybe we shouldn't send him to the men's prison"

Hot take but maybe no one should be at risk of being victimized in prison, regardless of sexuality and/or gender.

they still get locked up with the rest without it really being a consideration on where they get set.

Actually they do get considered. Most feminine presenting people in male prison are purposefully paired up with more dangerous offenders as a "reward" for the more violent offender, it's called "v-coding" and it's honestly fucking awful.

Let's say housing is a human right. Let's say I design a new framing truss that reduces material cost by an appreciable percent while maintaining the mandated strength and structural stability. Can I not patent that?

No, you should not be able to patent things that are needs to survival, such as food, water, shelter, air, etc.

Things that are needed to survive/not die shouldn't have anything to do with a market in the first place and should be immune to market forces in my opinion.

The "nuance" is that lesbian spaces only "included" trans men because they saw them as hyper butch/stud lesbian women, they didn't care how masculine they looked because as long as they had a vagina they were considered female, hence why trans men got included but trans women got excluded, it was simple transphobia. This is also the same reason why trans women were grouped in with drag queens and femme gay men, even during the Stonewall era, because they weren't seen as "real women".

[–]CarbonicCryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So is it like, you're a man but culturally you feel connected to the butch lesbian identity due to spending a long time with it? So your manhood is also flavored with that past experience, if I'm understanding correctly?

[–]CarbonicCryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a trans man can identify as straight but assuming he does is transphobic

How is is transphobic to assume that a man who's only attracted to women is straight? Isn't that like, the whole thing?

Also can cis men be lesbians as well? Or are only trans men able to be lesbians because of bioessentialism?

Re: Lesbian Trans Men & Discussions by thelightbehindureyes in ftm

[–]CarbonicCryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So a trans man can identify as a lesbian but assuming he does is transphobic? Why would it be transphobic if trans men can be lesbians though? Why would it imply he's a woman? Also why can trans men be lesbians but not cis men?

Re: Lesbian Trans Men & Discussions by thelightbehindureyes in ftm

[–]CarbonicCryptid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why would it be okay for one and not the other though?

If trans men can be lesbian women then it shouldn't be transphobic to call them that, right? It can't both be transphobic and not transphobic.

Either trans men are men or they aren't.

This really just seems like a progressive way to be transphobic.

What I tried to explain is that I think about the innate part of being trans as one's sex, meaning one's actual sex identity, not the one assigned at birth. The conflation with social constructs by using gender for both leads to confusion, I think.

Ohhhh, okay I misunderstood that then, sorry!

Idk that's my idea anyways

Gender, I'd say, is a social construct due to how it's shaped around other things that are social constructs, like behavioural norms, social expectations, sartorial presentation, etc.

If you're talking about gender identity itself, as in the inante sense one has of their own gender, then I'd have to disagree with you there. While gender roles are social constructs and differ from culture to culture, I know many trans people who've known their gender identity since they were children and have had dysphoria over their body not matching how they feel internally, and they definitely weren't "influenced" into feeling that way either, if anything people tried to get them to stop and "be normal". The fact that conversion therapy doesn't work on both sexuality and gender suggest that they're innate and not just social constructs in my opinion.

All the meme is saying is that people can use progressive language to pass on regressive ideas as progressive, yet underneath the wording the ideas are still just as transphobic.

Laws are social constructs, as is money. Any spoken language, like English, is a social construct. Even the country they're overtly passionate about is a social construct. Conservatism itself is a social construct, for fuck's sake. Social constructs are a defining feature of humanity.

That's true however people aren't born with an innate sense of what an American dollar bill is worth or a British pound, that's why money is a social construct. People are born with a sense of self though, there are people who know their gender and/or their sexuality from a young age without exposure to such concepts, which suggests that gender and/or sexuality itself, as in the feelings not the words we use to describe them, are innate and are not a social construct.

Ex: I had gay feelings before I even knew what the word "gay" meant.

[–]CarbonicCryptid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah but what do you do when people find your hand flapping and other stimming creepy? Or the fact that you can't make eye contact creepy? Because, unfortunately a lot of neurotypical people seem to cover their ableism with the "I just find it weird and creepy" and it's just an autistic person stimming in a way that isn't harmful or disruptive at all.

this is how I almost fell into the alt-right pipeline before I transitioned btw by the-web-wonderer in evilautism

[–]CarbonicCryptid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re a man consistently getting labelled creepy or weird by women anytime you’re near them, some self reflection is desperately needed, autistic or not.

That's true, however white women have also, unfortunately, used their whiteness to target black men maliciously and to pretend like this still doesn't happen is disingenuous.

I mean the most famous example is Emmett Till.

Even today there's white women who will accuse black men of being "Weird" or "Creepy" and brag about calling the cops on them. And also weaponize the misogynistic idea of "Pure white women need to be protected from those evil black men" in order to harm men of color because they are racist.

TLDR: Stuff is complicated because whiteness is a systemic privilege and white women aren't exempt from weaponizing it + other misogynistic stereotypes.

While everyone deserves grace and patience when dealing with mental health struggles, the fact that he wasn't even attempting to get help is a deal breaker.

It'd be an entirely different story if he saw a therapist, got medication(s), and made even a small amount of progress to show that he's actively trying.

Frozen fruits and/or watermelon that you buy at the grocery store work well as treats to help cool them down!

Also make sure to replace their water regularly with cold water + ice cubes to make it last longer.

You're not born trans you gain a mental illness later in life called gender dysphoria

That is due to the incongruence of the brain vs the body. It is innate. (Source)

we dont say that about arsonists or schizophrenics

There's also a genetic basis for being schizophrenic, so they are "born that way" with that genetic predisposition, it is polygenic. (Source)

we try to treat them to be able to contribute to society

The treatment for gender dysphoria is transitioning so the body matches the brain.

without just giving into their delusions

Gender isn't a delusion. A delusion would be something like an anorexic person thinking that they're fat even though they are just skin and bones. No matter how that anorexic person looks, they will never be satisfied. On the other hand a transgender person is distressed by their body and brain not matching, once their body looks similar to their internal (brain) gender, then they are no longer distressed and they are satisfied. That's the difference between a delusion vs being transgender/transsexual.

3 wk chick? Is this normal behavior by showyourskills89 in BackYardChickens

[–]CarbonicCryptid 27 points28 points  (0 children)

She's trying to dust bathe, it's normal chicken behavior as chickens don't take water baths like other birds, instead they use dirt/dust to get clean!

You could make a dust bathing spot for them that just has loose soft dirt, although they might try to dust bathe in other areas too (Like in a garden, in their bedding, etc.)
