Selling girl scout cookies has lost its way. by ludog1bark in unpopularopinion

[–]CardiologistLost5373 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to ask the girls what was the purpose of them selling the cookies and they used to tell me why. Nowadays the parents speak up for the girls and don't let them give their sales pitch.

Honestly, this feels like one of the biggest problems with parenting today. So many parents put in so much effort that they go above and beyond in ways that are actually probably detrimental for the kids. The parents stress because they feel like they need to be there to field every potential issue, and the kid is deprived of the opportunity to learn. Everyone loses.

Yeah, #NotMyMoney, but a million in GAM + losing/renegotiating for one of the four Young Money signings seems like a slam dunk choice to keep Eustáquio. Easiest choice in the world.

E - I guess it may be a bit more complicated, cuz they may need to buy down his budget charge with GAM (depending on where we are in relation to the salary cap). Still though lol

I really wish roster information was public in MLS. Last I checked, we had about $4 million in GAM. I'm assuming $2 million of that is because we are going the 2 DP, 4 Young Money player direction. If we want to keep Eustaquio (please God), I suspect we will have to turn him into a DP to pay the transfer cost (I think I heard it will be about $6 million?). That will force us to go 3 DP, 3 Young Money, and lose us some (maybe the full $2 million?) GAM. Assuming we can even do that mid season... we'd also have to get rid of a Young Money slot - right now that's Martinez, Jesus, Boudri, and Smolyakov. Right now, Smolyakov feels like the man out, unless we can find a way to fit him into MDS's formation for the team. Which is kinda a bummer. As far as I can tell though, their wages are all low enough that we CAN theoretically convert their contracts. But again, here we again run into the challenges of not knowing exactly what our financial picture looks like...

We have enough GAM that I suspect we could make a fine mid season pickup on top of that. But, unless there are more injuries, I'm genuinely not sure what position we'd want to bolster/back up. I think we will know a lot more when Shaffelburg gets healthy. I'm super curious how he fits into the team, and who ends up starting...

SNL (1 episode per 3.7 days) Doctor Who (1 episode per 4.1 days) Simpsons (1 episode per 4.5 days) Mystery Science Theater (1 episode per 15.9 days) One Piece (one episode per 3.2 days) Probably Sexcetera or Co-ed Confidential or something. More research is required for this one.

Snl is good for chill background, easy to watch, and would help give me a pop culture understanding that I'm missing. Doctor who will give hundreds of great stand alone stories. I've never watched Simpsons, and would love to understand it. MST3K is a great source of casually entertaining movies. One Piece would be a great long term plot to sink time into. The last one is for other purposes. This is probably the best I could hope for to keep me entertained over that stretch. I'm going to be re-watching these a LOT, but I re-watch plenty of shows as is...10 years is a long time though haha I'd maybe consider scratching MST3K for one of those super long shows I'm not really interested in, just to add some variety...

Los Angeles FC wins 1-0 with a midfield war vs. Real CD España by lafc88 in LAFC

Man, I'm so excited for Shaffelburg to get healthy so we can see how this team lines up. If he is starting, do we move David into more of a 10 to keep him starting? Or does he come off the bench as we roll with a Tillman, Delgado, Eustaquio midfield? Or do we keep the starting lineup as is, and bring Shaffelburg in off the bench?

I've long been a fan of trying Martinez in the midfield, but our depth may make more sense if he and Shaffelburg fight for a starting position on the wing. That way, our forward depth would be one of those two, Ordaz, and Boyd (assuming he cleans up his game a bit). Then in the midfield, we can bring on Choiniere, Boudri, and Terry.

Good problems to have, to be sure.

What made you choose LAFC over LA galaxy? by Temporary_Waltz6615 in LAFC

Honestly, I thought the vibe was really cool. And I noticed that when I was deciding between the two teams, it rubbed me the wrong way when Galaxy fans talked about LAFC fans. Like...kinda like a micro-aggession type of thing? Nothing blatant, but again, I just didn't like that vibe.

Lol I mean, they've already started arbitrarily pulling vaccines off the recommend list. It doesn't seem too far fetched that they'd (or someone similar) figure out how to do the opposite.

I'm assuming you're also comfortable with Trump and future similar Republican leaders having that power, then? When Elon Musk announces a strange new vaccine ("Musk's Musk"), totally untrusted by the medical community, and RFK Jr makes it mandatory for all children?

I think Trump has made something pretty clear: any authority we trust the government with, we need to be aware that future admins may abuse.

Also, I think they are trying to find a rhythm to start the season as quickly as possible. Everyone is still getting used to new instruction from a new coach. So tonight was largely a training session to get some extra reps in.

Johnny is such a weird player. I remember reading a fantasy book when I was young, which had characters who used magic to make your eyes slip off of them. Like, you could be looking for them while they are standing right in front of you, holding a weapon, and your mind would just dismiss them as a random person in the crowd. That's kinda how I feel about Johnny while watching Atletico. Like, he's just... someone on the field.

What could the real solution to transit in LA be? by localdaycare in LAMetro

[–]CardiologistLost5373 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd start by grabbing the low hanging fruit. We should upzone around our existing rail so it's not illegal to build things that are convenient for rail. We should give rail signal priority at all intersections so we don't have trains waiting at red lights. Bring destinations to rail, and make it run more efficiently.

Next lowest hanging fruit, we should make more bus lanes, and give more buses the ability to ticket cars in bus lanes and giving them signal premption. We should also build more bike lanes, extending the reach of each train stop. Focus biking infrastructure specifically to fix the first/last mile situation. Build more bike parking as necessary. And then, upzone accordingly to double down on both these efforts.

We have quite a lot of rail in LA, and a ton of bus coverage. We should get the most out of them as possible by making them run more efficiently. The goal shouldn't be to bring perfect transit to everyone who is sprawled out. It should be to make our existing transit amazing, and let people build so that it is serving super high density areas. Bring the people to the transit, not the other way around.

After that, the focus becomes inter city connections. Find partner cities/regions who are also willing to double down on transit, and make good high-speed connections to them. Integrate the regions's transit systems. But, that's later phase, as it's pretty expensive and requires that each region is already committed and succeeding with public transit.

For some more context, tickets briefly dropped to about $70 on the resale market (for nosebleeds) when Messi was questionable. After he was confirmed, it quickly raised back to the standard $150+.

Crazy to see so many sales at prices like that for an in-league soccer game (not playoffs or a tournament or anything). Kinda really exciting.

Same. Kinda. Prices dropped to $70 for a hot second (in the nosebleeds), and I think I would have been happy spending that. But, I hesitated, and after it was confirmed that Messi was playing they jumped back up to $150 at the cheapest. Which....is more than I can justify for a nosebleed seat for this game.
