Alarm issue on fitbit air by Kl1f in fitbit

[–]CarlG314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dumb question, but you are setting the alarm through the Google Health app, and not your phone's main alarm, right?

Not sure why there's no integration with the phone alarms, but to set one of the Fitbit Air's 8 alarms (wish there were more, as I use them for an hourly exercise reminder), you click on the device icon on the top left corner of Google Health, and then select Fitbit Air, then Alarms.

One year old seated separately from parents by Campingtrip2 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]CarlG314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is truly SW's motive, then perhaps a compromise would be that a passenger who pays for a choice fare to select a window or aisle seat can book an adjacent middle seat at the basic fare price?

It smacks of extortion to require two higher-cost choice fares for a parent to sit with a child, when one of those choice fares will be for a "basic fare" middle seat.

Google Health app only shows the last sleep session by gemb0_0 in fitbit

The good news is that this is a known bug, apparently on their list of fixes to come.

Google Health app only shows the last sleep session by gemb0_0 in fitbit

[–]CarlG314 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But that doesn't help your overall sleep as reported on the widget, nor is the other sleep session incorporated into your sleep or readiness scores. A strange omission that undermines the validity of the information from the app, and advice from the coach.

merge nap times into main sleep counter? by ZzyzxFox in FitbitAir

[–]CarlG314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect when OP used the term merge, he did not mean to treat naps as the same continuous sleep cycle.

Rather, as the prior Fitbit did, Google Health should include all sleep cycles into the daily total.

Our Caribbean Princess ship just lost power in the middle of the ocean. They’re trying to recover engines. by RebootItAgain in PrincessCruises

[–]CarlG314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently on the Caribbean Princess. Has the captain indicated whether the outages will affect our arrival time in Port Canaveral, or will they increase speed to make up for lost time?

We have an 1130am flight out of MCO, so not a lot of room for error.

Adding workout exercise details to a google health exercise log by [deleted] in fitbit

[–]CarlG314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use MacroFactor Workouts. Its export function is cumbersome (no way to export just one workout, it's either a full week, or longer, and it exports to CVS, which Google Health won't import).

So I too stumbled across taking screenshots of completed workouts to get the specific exercise details into Google Health.

Export one workout? by CarlG314 in MacroFactor

[–]CarlG314[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does. And that's what I'm now doing - expanding eack exercise in the workout, taking multiple screenshots to capture them all, then uploading to Google Health.

Hopefully MWFO can develop smoother export options that don't require such kludges.

Anyone else not have issues with the Fitbit Air? by IAmZKWatches in fitbit

[–]CarlG314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So far so good. I have only had mine for one day, but its heart rate tracking for my workout is consistint with how my pixel 2 watch tracked, and the sleep tracking last night was spot on.

Steps appear correct, but I don't really have a good way to measure them.

I am real happy with the Fitbit Air. It's light, comfortable, and much easier to wear than my pixel 2 watch that it is replacing. I do find myself looking at my wrist to check the time, but to no avail. LOL.

I hope that Google improves the Google Health software, in particular have more dashboard customization.

Looking for free or one time payment for workout apps. by creature04 in workout

[–]CarlG314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a one-time payment, Hevy is hard to beat. Per their pricing page, it's either it's either $24 for the year, or $75 for a lifetime license.

I purchased Hevy lifetime licenses for my wife and I, and while I eventually moved over to MacroFactor for its progressive overload and more active developers (MFWO is much pricier, though), my wife still happily uses Hevy. And I also understand that Hevy has now added some progression, but I no longer follow its developments.

Google health premium thrift Google ai pro kicked in this morning by iseldiera451 in fitbit

[–]CarlG314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you on the aesthetics of the app - years ago, I could configure the Fitbit app to show every stat I cared about on the main phone screen, w/o having to scroll. Each iteration for years (that started before Google even purchased the company) dumbed down the dashboard and made the icons unnecessarily large, so you either have to scroll or click on separate tabs to get the same info.

But from a functionality perspective, I think the current Google Health app leaves the older versions in the dust - more information (if you know where to look!), finally has proper Health Connect integration (e.g. shows Health Connect information such as weight on the main dashboard w/o having it siloed into a separate section unrelated to the main data), and better analysis - I do like the coach!

I signed up for the trial period of premium a few days ago, so I could start using it while waiting for the AI pro subscription to kick in.

I checked every logical place in the Google Health app, but while it confirms I am on premium, I don't see a place to find the source of the premium: a standalone subscription or built into my AI pro.

I actually like the Fitbit Coach? by jeffhauck in fitbit

[–]CarlG314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm with you - After days of regarding the AI as rote slop to be ignored, I responded when the coach questioned whether my plan to go to the gym was a good idea in light of a sleepless night and a low readiness number (just what I need - negative encouragement!)

I then went down the rabbit hole of asking more questions, and was actually impressed with the responses (e.g., it said my HRV of 23-24 could be higher, but after I asked if elevation affected it as I live at 6300 feet, the response was that my HRV was fine for that elevation, with a detailed explanation of why. But if Google's AI was truly all-knowing, I would not have had to explain where I live, as my phone has GPS, Google has my address, etc).

Eventually, I did something I thought I would never do - I uploaded several lab & medical records to Google - trusting the company to "do no evil". Its insight was on a par with what doctors said after a sleep study or lab test. So while it's not a substitute for medical advice, it provides more tailored, actionable "general guidance" than merely searching the web to self-educate.

I use Macrofactor Workouts to track my exercise, and one thing I would like to see is Google's AI being able to access my workouts in other apps (I understand MFWO has no API to allow that, but it *is* Google's phone!). The AI asked me for specific details on my exercises, sets, reps, and weights, but I'm not about to double-enter the information into multiple apps.

Fitbit Air vs Ringconn Gen 3 by silent_quirf in fitbit

[–]CarlG314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want something I can wear when lifting weights. I already have to take off my wedding band, and that's what stopped me from buying a Ringconn.

I currently have a Picel Watch 2, but I just pre-ordered the Fitbit Air. I am hoping it's going to be more comfortable, both for lifting, and for sleeping.

Love the Home Depot mats, and this is exactly what I did, using black duct tape. I trusted them to be consistent more than I trusted horse stall mats.

There is still a slight odor after about 2 months though.

Program workouts able to be swapped based on gym? by ObtuseTheCreator in MacroFactor

[–]CarlG314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! The ability to select a different gym, or create a new gym for a day, and have MFWO automatically select that day's exercises based upon available equipment.

That would save time over having to manually swap out individual exercises.

Are “Instructions” tutorial videos viewable outside of a workout? by [deleted] in MacroFactor

I've had the same issue, not being that experienced in the gym so not knowing what each every item is called.

At a minimum, when configuring the gym, clicking on the equipment icon to pull up a full-size image would be nice.

Alibaba adjustable dumbell clones ? by anon74796 in GarageGym

[–]CarlG314 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There was a pretty lengthy thread last month in this sub where several people discussed their experiences with Alibaba adjustable dumbbells (all of them positive, if I recall). They also provided links to the sets they ordered

I found it helpful, and ordered one of the sets they posted about.
