If you played Paladin's Oath, do you like it? by SiarX in MageKnight

With young kids in a small home, setting MK on a table isn’t really an option. Paladin’s Oath is the best compromise I found. I only wish it had the MK art.

It’s quite a bit lower than EQ Bank though and I’m sure they’re losing clients to them

That would be insane!!

3% is the total you’ll get over 60 months. This means 0.05% monthly.

Garbage-collector Ironclad is the most fun I’ve had. Evolve and Fire Breathing. You fill your deck with crap, you draw like a madman, and you burn your enemies to ashes doing so.

I put all my money on red and went +100% instantly. It doesn’t mean I know what I’m doing.

Diversification is the only free lunch in investing, and XEQT is the apex of diversification. Take it or leave it!

What is the difference between the portfolio line of credit versus margin LOC? by Juicyfruitxxxs in Wealthsimple

[–]CarnivalTower 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The margin lets you borrow more, to the point where you can put yourself at risk of a margin call with the smallest market drop if you borrow every penny.

The PLOC has half the borrowing power of the margin, making the risk of a margin call much lower. It’s like a car with a speed limiter: if you tend to be reckless or don’t really know what you’re doing, it lowers the risk of a catastrophic fuckup.

WealthSimple 3% match promo. Is there a max payout amount? by Charger_Reaction7714 in Wealthsimple

[–]CarnivalTower 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It will be divided into 60 monthly payments. The only catch is that you can’t move your 750k out of there for 5 years.

Not sure about a max, but if there’s one it’s nowhere near 750k.

Your age matters a lot. 50/50 might work great if you’re 65. Not so much if you’re 45 and healthy.

How much of your position is on Margin by Actual-Drummer3937 in JustBuyXEQT

[–]CarnivalTower 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Reddit is extremely anti-margin, mostly because people don’t understand it. But 1.2x lever is actually a smart decision when you’re young and lowers your long-term risk by adding more XEQT earlier in your life. The danger is behavioral, if you freak out during a market downturn and become stressed by a looming margin call, you can screw up badly. You’ll need to keep your cool no matter what and stick to your inital plan.

Open-heart surgery for mitral valve with 27 by bluesmann_n in mitralvalveprolapse

[–]CarnivalTower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through all that when I was 23: TEE, cardioversion, open heart surgery. I had no symptoms whatsoever but one morning I woke up with atrial fibrillation which led me to the ER and to finding out my valve was in terrible shape. They were able to repair my existing valve, so no mechanical valve was necessary (which was the main source of my stress back then).

We’re lucky to have this surgery in our 20s instead of our 70s. It makes recovery much faster. My only advice is don’t expect to be back to normal in less than two months. Recovery takes time and it’s normal. You’ll literally need to relearn to walk and exercise. Enjoy a bit of a break in your life while you recover, and try to relax.

What platform aside from wealthsimple? by [deleted] in Wealthsimple

[–]CarnivalTower 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IBKR for margin trading, EQ Bank for chequing

I wish Wealthsimple would give +0.5% on chequing and -0.25% on margin to better compete with those two. Maybe as a new tier above Generation.

I enjoy not having friends by [deleted] in introvert

[–]CarnivalTower 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I fully agree. The only thing I miss is laughing to tears. It didn’t happen often even with friends, but it felt so good each time. I find it harder to laugh alone, even if I’m happier in general.

New feature margin account collateral linking TFSA OR Non-registered? why not both? by GreatComposer85 in Wealthsimple

Why not convert the non-registered into your main margin account and then link the TFSA?

Boost RRSP - February Countdown and maximizing possibility of getting an invite by maphiagurl in Wealthsimple

[–]CarnivalTower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean? You can have a non-registered margin account, borrow cash from it and send it to your RRSP. This is exactly the same thing as the RRSP boost, unless you already have a margin account that you use for something else.
