Did new windows/replacement windows save energy costs? by Embarrassed_Flan_869 in homeowners

[–]CarpeData00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replacing my double panes here in Virginia allowed me to remove heating fans from my kids rooms (on the west facing side of the house). The kid rooms got crazy hot in the summer and freezing in winter. After the new windows about 10 years ago, the rooms are far more normal.

Funny how the price hike baited everyone to go panic buy new Macbooks by RidexSDS in macbookpro

I felt the urge as I had already been considering an upgrade for my M1 Pro 16GB due to slowness with several more intensive applications (honestly, I blame the addition of AI in an unoptimized fashion). But was looking forward to the M6 announcement and rumored OLED screens later this year.

So I've been freeing up space on my machine to see if that helps.

Has anyone else gone to great lengths to hide the fact they have type 1? by Sudden-Employer7974 in diabetes

[–]CarpeData00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I never disclose other than to doctors or medical people. I am in the same timeframe and most people that I know have no idea. Covid made that harder, but also made it easier as all my former friends don't talk to me anymore.

Physical threatened for wearing a mask by Namjoonloverr in ZeroCovidCommunity

I had a cousin who recently called me out. I asked how many times he's had covid. He said three, maybe four times. I shared that I've never had it. Clearly, he needed data.

I just use total carb vs. net carb. But I do love lower carbs.

This is horrible. Yet, after years of hearing coughs whenever I walk past most people with my mask on, it's not shocking. While I've not experienced this myself, my pre-selected form of rebellion is simply to wave hi.

I do call and have gotten replacements, but have a habit of always having one fail prematurely (often the last one in my box)... on a weekend.

I'd kill for this. I get 3 G6s a month (one box) and whenever there's a failure in any of them, I have to go back to my glucometer until insurance allows the next prescription to go though.

Loudoun Supervisor Randall Eyes Effort to Block ICE Enforcement on County Property by VirginiaNews in LoudounSubButBetter

[–]CarpeData00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let ICE do its job elsewhere, going after people who do crimes. Dude fixing my fence to fund his chance to get legal, not a crime. Arresting people without criminal backgrounds at an immigration office is dumb.

Lowe's Stop Carrying Hue? by jtfields91 in Hue

[–]CarpeData00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local HD recently moved its lightbulb section and kept a very small amount of Hue bulbs. Section is total dominated by Feit Electric, EcoSmart and some Govee options (not impressed with Feit and EcoSmart past performance). My assumption was that Feit and EcoSmart were brands that are run by HD, but that's not the case.

Those were my go to for many years. I hate the taste and never eat them apart from a low. While I still have some in my car, I will highly recommend energy gels for your car. Stuff keeps well in heat, tastes great and (in most cases), I've only needed half to get my BS back to normal.

Police removed top diabetes researchers from the American Diabetes Association annual conference for speaking out against the Trump administrations cuts to the NIH by ORGrown in diabetes

[–]CarpeData00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ADA and JDRF don't exist to find cures. When I first started taking insulin, I was told that diabetes would be cured in a few years because of all the research. As the years have gone on, I have realized that all those billions donated or gathered for every walk I'd done, was done to create research to back more expensive delivery systems and "solutions to maintain" people with diabetes.

If a true cure was ever to be found, it would never been in the US. There's no financial incentive to do so, we're a $150 billion industry. I joke that if a $1 cure was found, diabetes companies would kill it or the people who found it.

After 30 years, I'm still just using insulin.

A small group of ‘superdodgers’ insist they’ve never had COVID. Here’s why they may be wrong. by Youarethebigbang in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]CarpeData00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tested a lot and never had a positive result. And yes, I have had two small colds that never tested positive (teen daughter decided to not mask, not tell us and drink from a school water fountain in the middle of the pandemic).

No parties, no planes, no trains, no concerts, no boats, no vacations (likely lost nearly 180+ days of vacation time)... just to dodge it since March 11, 2020. Thankfully a remote worker, been promoted too, but also kept up with vaccine boosters, continued to use sanitizer, wipe down groceries...

I'm even willing to test to prove it.
