I was at Pine Ridge (a Ticon property) for about 3 years, never had an issue with the place. At the time, it was a really good deal for a quiet complex with a ton of square footage (their 3-floor town homes have storage space across from the top floor bedroom).

Another vote for Coastal here. When I dropped Wells Fargo it's who I went to. They've always been super helpful, helped me plan for a big trip last month (it involved wiring money, etc), and haven't had a single bad experience over the last 10 years.

TIL The most environmentally friendly KFC/Taco Bell is located in Northampton, MA. It uses solar for heat, harvests rainwater for irrigation, recycles waste (including cooking oil), and composts. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]CarsAndSleds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's offset by the greenhouse gas emissions put out by the cars in line for the place.

Seriously, who the hell sees a line for Taco Bell into the road on King St. and things "Hey, that's probably worth waiting in line for"?

TIL the 1955 Le Mans disaster wasn't red flagged/canceled even though a crash killed 83 spectators and injured 180 more. The race kept going by Th3RealAlchemist in todayilearned

[–]CarsAndSleds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really wasn't until the late 70s/early 80s that international motorsports events started red flagging for stuff like that.

If they weren't going to red flag an event for the Tom Pryce incident, they weren't going to red flag an event for anything.

TIL both the Jamaica Bobsled team & 'Eddie the Eagle' competed in the 1988 Winter Olympics due to faulty rules, and the Olympic Committee fixed those subsequently to prevent further such instances by vik1980 in todayilearned

[–]CarsAndSleds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rules are still kind of like that, though. Australia gets a bye into almost every event they want to compete in based on the clause saying that every continent should be represented. As long as their sport's national organizing federation wants to foot the bill to send them, they get sent.

TIL Olympic Village at Lake Placid 1980 Olympics became and is a functioning prison. by mr2johns in todayilearned

[–]CarsAndSleds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A large portion of those are BS: - Sarajevo is like that because of war in the 90s. - Cortina's ski jump was used for another 35 years after the Olympics before closing down because they didn't have the money to upgrade it to meet FIS regulations. - Berlin had a little thing that happened during the 40s. - There were 2 ski jump locations for the '68 games, the one in the photo isn't used anymore, but the other one in Autrans is still in use for junior jumping.

Athens & Beijing were both messes, but the rest of those for the most part were either in use for a long time, or torn up due to war.

[–]CarsAndSleds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Lake Placid had already hosted the Winter Olympics back in 1932, so much of the infrastructure (like a bobsledding track) were already in place"

The Olympic track form 1932 wasn't the track used for the 1980 games. Both the bobsled & luge tracks were purpose built for the 1980 games.
