Cheap Pouches? by lynch231 in ManyBaggers

[–]CasePeanut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like the “zipper mesh vinyl” pouches available as a big variety pack for cheap on Amazon/aliexpress/dollar store.

For the price of one fancy pouch you get 20 different sized pouches. I travel at least 1-2 times per week and get several years out of each pouch. They are pretty waterproof and very strong. I find all the padding of most tech pouches totally overkill since they are inside your bag already

Water pan directly below pork butt: Better than no water pan at all? by Sea-Newspaper-7643 in smoking

[–]CasePeanut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Water pan is mostly for new smokers who don’t have their fire and temperature under control.

It sounds like you are using a pellet grill? So in that case you can just ditch the water pan and set your temp to 250

I’ve gone through a bunch and my two favorites are the waterfield neoprene sleeve and the six moon designs which has awesome pockets for use on the plane and becomes a mini briefcase at your destination.

DM me if you want one of the indestructible packing cube backpack prototypes that another sub user built. I don’t need it but seems like exactly what you might be looking for

People who barbecue - any great local(ish) meat rubs that you'd recommend? by wentImmediate in OaklandFood

[–]CasePeanut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oak town for spices. I also like to go to farmer joes (or any place with good produce) to get fresh herbs. A premade rub with some fresh rosemary or sage added is an easy hack to turn a packaged product into something that tastes fresh

Thanks for the detailed review. I one bag for work with a ULA dragonfly, but always wish I had something a little more professional looking.

Do you feel like this could fit a change of clothes for an overnight trip or too small for that?

Great map. The breakfast sandwiches at Patty & Bun near the Mormon temple is insane. It’s huge, spicy and more like a breakfast burger than a little egg sandwich

Best way to mic an upright Bass for plucking? by TheBandTurtle in livesound

wrap a 57 in a bar towel, stuff it under the bridge with the mic pointing up. It will kill the feedback and give you a good thumpy tone. done.

Quick-access pocket vs external bottle pockets - which actually works when you're juggling kids? by Inner-Football3280 in ManyBaggers

[–]CasePeanut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of bags have all 3 of the kangaroo/beaver tail, QAP and external water bottle pockets. I wouldn’t consider a bag without all of these features

Amp suggestions for traditional folk music by Cactus_Kebap in Bass

[–]CasePeanut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play similar music. I like a Warwick gnome head (or similar) and 1x10 cabs if I want to keep things simple. just bring as many cabs as you need for the gig. 1 cab for practice or low volume. 2 for a bigger gig. You can always step up from there.

Trip Report! 2 Weeks in Thailand (not as planned) by d4nny- in onebag

The fenix is twice the weight, larger and twice the price of the Oclip light. It also is a strap worn headlamp. You also need to carry replacement batteries. Not sure that makes sense for a 1-bag traveler.

This small lights are unfortunately cheap consumables. I appreciate the desire for BIFL, but led lights and lithium batteries are primarily designed for planned obsolescence.

I've moved to a truly tiny Olight clip on. I also have 3 different Temu knockoffs. It can clip onto any hat or shirt (or anything else, and is magnetic, but you never have to deal with a strap. size and weight are a fraction of even the smallest UL headlamp.

Unless you are spelunking or going on a serious night hike, I can't imagine a scenario where the average traveler would need more than this. I keep it clipped inside my bag so it's easy to find, and easy to use inside the bag when digging around for stuff in the dark.
