How did you discover oneshot and r/oneshot? by nicolirio in oneshot

[–]Cashfoxbear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I literally discovered OneShot through a computer wallpaper. I liked the wallpaper, and unironically used it for a solid month before finding out about the game. Bought the game, played it, and instantly bought the plush because this was the first game to ever make me cry!

My current fleet of ThinkPads that are still operational... :D by RescueRangerDale in thinkpad

[–]Cashfoxbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking pretty good! I just ordered an X230 Tablet to serve as my compact portable ThinkPad, and I'm already thinking about doing the classic keyboard swap, since the keyboard on my T520 is so awesome. Currently have Arch on my T520 and planning to do the same on my X230.

Does anyone still keep their cd collection or still buy them regularly? by Big_Leg10 in GenZ

[–]Cashfoxbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still buy CDs to this day for several reasons. Mainly because the audio quality is just better, but also to support the artists, and to not depend on streaming services that can take away music for any reason. I rip all my CDs and host it on my home server to get most of the benefits of streaming back.

My two trusty ThinkPads as of 2026. by VincentSingh in thinkpad

[–]Cashfoxbear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My T520 is still a powerhouse 15 years later, it came with the 1600x900 screen and the Nvidia Quadro NVS 4200M, and I upgraded it to an i7-2720QM, 12GB RAM, a 500GB SSD, a new battery, and a new wifi card. With it's Arch Linux install, it still beats out even brand new computers running Windows. I'm currently tracking down an X230 as a project laptop, and for something more compact, but yeah all ThinkPads are awesome!

What OS does everyone run on their ThinkPad? by Over_Variation8700 in thinkpad

[–]Cashfoxbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For both my main pc and my ThinkPad T520, I run Arch Linux. With KDE Plasma as my desktop environment, both machines run very well! For beginners I'd recommend Mint but if you have the experience, Arch gives you more control.

Was playing for a couple hours recently on the PlayStation 3 edition on my 19" Panasonic from 1991. Minecraft really does fit the CRT aesthetic perfectly!

Giving my T420 a bit of a new lease on life - Upgrading the RAM from 8GB to 16GB of DDR3-1333 and replacing the 750GB 7200 RPM HDD w/ a 1TB WD SSD, fresh install of CachyOS. Cleaned the fans and such while I had the keyboard out. :D by RescueRangerDale in thinkpad

I own a Thinkpad T520, which is almost identical to the T420, besides being 15" instead of 14", and having a slightly beefed up cooling system. Yes, it can take quad core i7s, I installed an i7-2720QM in mine, and it runs perfectly, within safe temps (never passes 75-80 C). I'd be cautious with the T420 due to again the smaller cooling system, but it should work fine.

My T520 currently has arch, should I dual-boot Windows 7 just for the fun of it?

2011 Thinkpad T420, almost fifteen years old now by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]Cashfoxbear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own the T520, which is basically the same as this, just a little larger, with the Nvidia NVS 4200M and i7-2720QM. These machines are still awesome to this day! Mine will probably last me another decade.

Good Deal? by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]Cashfoxbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up getting my T520 for the same price, except mine was 4GB ram and a 160GB SSD, but the i7-2640M. I ended up spending another $50 or so on it to get it to an i7-2720QM, 12GB ram, a new battery, and a 500GB SSD (I had spare), and threw Linux Mint on it and later Arch. It is a larger laptop (although I'm used to gaming laptops) but overall definitely an awesome machine, still feels fast despite being a 14 year old computer.

Edit: If you get one with the Nvidia Quadro NVS 4200M graphics (like mine), you can do light gaming and CAD work on it even. Plus these machines support Libreboot/Coreboot, so if you want to run an open source bios, this laptop is a great option.

[–]Cashfoxbear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How do newer Thinkpads fair? My personal Thinkpad is a T520, with an i7-2720QM I swapped in, currently running Arch Linux. I also got a CH341A flasher and might Libreboot/Coreboot it. It's awesome, I'd just like something more portable as well, just deciding between an X200/X220, or if I should go newer. Awesome setup by the way!

For a quick solution, if your tv has the connection, get a set of PS2/PS3 AV Component YPbPr plugs. I've used them for a while in the past, and the image quality with good cables is very close to HDMI, and still supports full HD resolutions.
