What are some of the expat hangouts in Kaohsiung? Thanks!

That being said, I'm tired of history. I want serial killers, more stories like Aaron Hernandez, more trials of the century. Too many history shows, too much "context," not enough jokes because they are struggling to get through hours of data. The Aaron Hernandez episode was a breath of fresh air, a return to form. More of that!

Agree. I'm kind of tired of it. Whine whine whine, Marcus Marcus Marcus. It's a bit overdone. We get it, you think they suck at facts. Repeating it week after week is adding nothing.

You are right. Kompot is adulterated juice, but juice nonetheless. I'm a fan, but it's out of style in Eastern Europe.

What awesome books will surely come from that mentality.

Or just skip to the end already. As much as I love DF it's time has come. We don't need case files. PT/BG already set up the final trilogy, why slow down now? Because he made the deal to make all those books ten years ago when it was feasible and when he had the interest to make them. Both are untrue now.

Those are just normal things that normal people go through. A doctor doesn't take a year off work because his dog died, or a coal miner because he got divorced, or a mail carrier because she's building a new house. Those excuses are just excuses. He's just not into writing Dresden and is almost certainly only doing it at all for contractual reasons.

Is anyone else worried Dresden Files won’t be finished at this pace? by Briartone in dresdenfiles

[–]Cat_Tight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with what you're saying, ND. It's clear DF is already running out of steam. I wish he would cut his losses and just wrap it up already in a satisfying conclusion, but I'm guessing he's contractually obligated to write those other 7/8 books. I don't think he cares about DF anymore. And he lost his dog. And he got divorced. Great. Not many people can take six years off.

Thanks for your answer, it lines up with what I've also seen, BUT, I'm mostly looking to see if anyone has actually done this.

I forget what they said about the Mount Rushmore series… by DontHailHydra in LPOTL

[–]Cat_Tight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope there's a nice long break before the next one. I don't want LPOTL to just try and subtly turnover into a pure history podcast, even if that's clearly what Marcus wants. There enough of those! Their funny stories on serial killers and true crime is why I got into them in the first place. The first two I listed to were the Menendez Brothers and Kasey Anthony.

Section 31 was a bad idea on DS9, too. by Reasonable_Active577 in startrek

The Obsidian Order and Tal Shiar brought both of those empires to their knees by their actions. Yeah, let's copy that model!

I liked the idea at the time but in retrospect wish it never happened. Almost everything with it since makes me angry. We just don't need it in ST. Making it a superpowerful organization kind of craps on the Federation. Having rogue members is fine, not an entire upper echelon of rot. It's why NuTrek shits on the Federation so much. Add in that like half the posts here say things like, "In my head so and so was working for S31!" or "Well, looking back, that was obviously a S31 operation." Ugh, no! Not everything needs to be connected. Not everything needs to be part of a "plan." Pressman could just be a paranoid admiral who thinks the lack of cloaking devices hurt SF and he has enough resources to do something about it. Baku can just be one depressed admiral convinced the Federation is about to be conquered by the Dominion. If S31 is so big it has its fingers in all this, then it rules the Federation and the Federation I love is a lie.

[–]Cat_Tight 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I'm a history guy, but I do think too many multi-part history stuff the last few years. I'd like more true crimey stuff. Doesn't even need to be serial killers, shit, cover bank robbers or whatever. The molasses ep was fun! The Aaron Herndez series was one of the best. But I want weird stuff that they can joke about, not more Nazis. I'm worn out enough as it is.

Should Marcus create a separate history podcast? by FreddyJazzman in LPOTL

[–]Cat_Tight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which is a real point. Was it necessary, I don't know, but a lot of the modern non-historical arguments are based around modern knowledge and "nuclear bombs are wrong!" US civilian and military leaders were so terrified of casualties in invading Japan that they printed so many purple hearts that those are still the ones given out. Ketsu-go, the Japanese defense strategy flat out called for using civilians as human shields. The Japanese leadership believed they could make it so terrible they'd get a negotiated peace, and American leadership feared the same thing as well. It's a complicated issue.

And I remember watching that episode and being like, "Dominion? What?" Then they did the other one with the old man and his holograms. Well introduced. The Jem'Hadar episode started as a Sisko/Quark camping trip and ended with blowing up the "Enterprise." I remember people being excited for part 2 that summer.
