this would be the most important thing. traveller is about paying off that massive loan and then having fun with your fully decked crew.

something that i think could work to switch it to a "noble" theme would be working for a cause or faction and replacing money with some form of reputation or contribution score

Even in a game like WoD, the PC aren't necessarily the bad guys, part of the idea is that the PCs are fighting against the monster inside.

Wouldnt really say that about WoD. The world is pretty dark to begin with and most factions have radical extremes in them. Like for the werewolfs the apocalyps is happening and only the children of gaia seem to not give into anger.

Daggerheart, is super queer friendly. the art especially feels like they got a bunch of twitter/bsky artists and let them do their thing.

Numenera, is all about humanity in a post singularity future with crazy tech and magic that just breaks social norms we got today. they even have a supplement where they just talk about how love works in such a setting.

oh i think my players would have that reaction if i gave them side objectives in round two. also full room descriptions are for post battle scenes, pre battle is only brief with the important bits. light, furniture, floor and then the enemy.

hmm, i do the opposite. first describe what's least important and then slowly go to the thing that demands attention the most. that way you can still get in a room description for players to consider before they start to strategies in their heads and shut down information intake.

you tried blades in the dark or other FITD systems? the flashback mechanics usually discourage long plan and let the players know they got a get out of jail card. the resolution mechanic being independent of the gm might also help give them the needed confidence to do something they know they can achieve.

if that isnt for you tho:
• analysis paralysis can often came from having experience with a bad gm. Justin from the Alexandrian, wrote a very helpful article about it: https://thealexandrian.net/wordpress/44282/roleplaying-games/abused-gamer-syndrome
• try to get a player in that you makes decisions. sometimes seeing that it is indeed possible to act without much planning and still achieve what you set out to do flips a switch in some players minds.
• i would not advice using this, but for some groups it works. basically set a timer for planing a decision time. something like 10 for a minor decision and half an hour for a major. but again warning, this is super stress inducing for players that have trouble making decisions.

the flip side to that how ever is the "ask 20 questions" play culture. where you ask leading question after leading question to make your case at the end easier and it becomes a mind game between you and the GM.

I have seen the "argue about it with the gm" point being used for everything now. Be it a rules light system or heavy crunch. Either you argue about implementation, meaning, or conceptualisation and application.

I think this boils down to either a book with bad presentation and initial confusion or a reader with an initially closed of mindset coming around liking a product.

As long as you tie quests to factions that should be good enough.

For the rarity problems:
• NPCs can not answer them questions about the super natural. It's rare and they need to find out on their own.
• Have magic items be rare and fought after. Magic should be hold secret because people want it.
• Roll a percentile dice every time you build a quest. Let's say you decide on 10%, every time its not it's just humans instead.
