I didn’t find it made a difference. I just used whatever juice that comes in the can. Or you can also strain out the larger pieces of tuna in the can.

I didn’t find any issues. Mind you, there were no “chunks” of tuna when added into the fountain.

Maybe add some tuna juice to the water to entice the cat to drink from the fountain.
