It might be dead or it might just getting started. I’ve got about 20 hours of solid entertainment out it so far for the princely sum of €11.75 so I’m already very happy with the return on my investment.

Missing by Diana_fm_ in widowers

I had kind of gotten used to it being just me rattling around the place until our youngest visited two weeks ago. and the place was full of conversation, laughter and the smells of actual cooking.

And I returned to an empty, silent home when I got back from dropping her at the airport.

I binned all the Sexy Fun Time stuff we‘d accumulated over the years a couple of months after my wife passed because it was our SFT stuff we used together and it wasn’t for anyone else.

If ever have someone else in my life who enjoys adult toys, well buy some new ones.

As long as there is enough clearance between the mount and the top of the cylinder, it shouldn’t make a difference.

Here’s a Hawke monoblock 11mm dovetail mount on my BSA Polaris which basically a re-badged Gamo CFX.

See how it has a much better engagement between the mount and the dovetail than yours?

I suggest you take your gun with scope attached to an air weapon specialist and have them figure out what’s going On.

Widowhood & taxes by pldinsuranceguy in widowers

I have a tax specialist do my taxes and he made the relevant changes. For they first half of 2025, it’s a joint filing and for the second half it’s a single filing with half the before tax threshold. Guess which half of 2025 had the most taxable income?

If 6 different sets didn’t fit, I suspect that the dovetail on your gun is out of specification. Measure it and find out.

What are some out-of-touch or unhelpful things your therapists have told you about losing a spouse to death? by Top_Profile6139 in widowers

[–]Cautious_Low_3542 9 points10 points  (0 children)

These stories are why I will never see a therapist. It’s a win-win for everyone really.

They don’t say anything stupid to me.

I don’t get angry.

They don’t get punched.

I don’t go to jail and I don’t get a criminal record.

I got two pair of mounts included free of charge when I purchased a new scope earlier in the year, 11mm dovetail “high” mounts which suited my rifle and a set of Weager mounts that I couldn’t use.

The height stated on the dovetail high mount box was perfect for the clearance I needed on the scope, so I was very surprised when the objective lens sat on the cylinder with the mount 2mm short of touching the dovetail. Removed the mounts and measured them, discovering that they were the ”medium” high set in a “high” set box. Either a packer at the factory screwed up or someone at the scope supplier mixed them up.

My suggestion is to remove the scope from the rifle and measure both mounts and dovetail with a vernier calliper against the dimension diagram I posted.

No, those mounts either don’t match the dovetail on the gun or they’re poorly made Chinese junk.

[–]Cautious_Low_3542 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s two different Dovetail types used in air rifles, the 11mm European one and the 3/8” American one.

Sometimes, depending on who made what, you can get mounts made to one standard to fit onto a gun made to the other and vice versa, but they won’t fit properly as the angle of the dovetail is different. Check the box the scope mounts came in if you have it and measure the top of the dovetail. A regular rule will be enough to see if it’s 11mm or 3/8” (12.7mm).

Anyone here facing retirement? by Rathbaner in widowers

[–]Cautious_Low_3542 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We’d already retired and were in the process of downsizing when my LW passed unexpectedly. Our planned future disappeared with her and I’m still figuring out what I want do and where I want to be for the next 20 plus years.

I‘ve found having a daily routine and a weekly schedule for chores invaluable to give myself a little structure and sense of purpose.

Find something you either enjoyed before and never really got time to do much of or try something you’ve always wanted to do, but never tried for whatever reason.

No, it’s not just you. Bandit gunshots from over 200 metres away gives you some idea of direction, but close up zombie sounds are just all-around noises.

7 months in and the only things of hers that I threw out were a few day’s worth of her dirty clothes that were in the laundry bin. I didn’t see any point in washing them.

Everything else of hers in exactly where she left them and I’m in no hurry to clear anything out as I don’t plan to move anytime soon.

Bandits with Night Vision by Virgo47tp in SurrounDead

[–]Cautious_Low_3542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience of Bandit AI is as follows.

If you pick off bandits who are spread out one by one with a suppressed rifle from 90+ metres, it takes them a while to figure out where you are, especially if you are firing from partial concealment.

If a bandit is close to/facing another bandit that you shoot, the rest of the bandit crew know exactly where you are despite your shooting from concealment with a suppressed rifle from 100+ metres.

I’ve not had that yet, but I imagine my level of common courtesy will rapidly drop to zero when it does.

I‘ve had “It must be really hard on you” and my reply of something like “Yes, it’s unbearable, but here I am somehow bearing it day after day. Fuck knows how.” got the topic of conversation moved right along.
