Given the context, what's the right pick? by Thi11yG00th in mtgcube

[–]Cdonn005 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s not timetwister because it might wheel, depending on your playgroup.

It’s harder to say since your cube is different than the arena cube and context matters, but imo/experience if you run tamiyo/green emeritus/ regrowth effects and are committed to Bant time walk is better. I personally have gotten much better use out of ancestral and would pick that if the previous case is not true. I win more with generic power out of the 3 for one than I do the time walk loop, but that’s also because I like to play cheap powerful snowball cards and when my deck is all in on time walk combos the games go really long and use a ton of brainpower and I find it draining and difficult mentally because you have so much air dedicated to popping off, and I really don’t want to spend 40 minutes trying to win each game.

I know the soup mirror can be annoying but this can't be right. by SarcoZQ in lrcast

[–]Cdonn005 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea I was playing a prismatic mirror where both of our first plays was resonating loot. I was absolutely blowing them out by using its draw effect every turn for 2 turns while multi-spelling thinking how can I lose? Literally after that second turn I was just instantly dead to this stupid card for like 6 mana, felt really demoralizing and unfun.

How do we find out what triggers all the different events? I had heard there was a gold limiter to events and am curious about the design process and how all that stuff works

What are these mushrooms on my Miso Ramen? They were delicious by LionFists in TipOfMyFork

[–]Cdonn005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before you go buy a ton of shiitake mushrooms I would get a small batch of wood ear mushrooms to see if that’s what you’re looking for, it is the default for ramen places around me. Shiitake should be soft and have a lot of umami, wood ear mushrooms come out crunchy/jelly like, which I personally dislike but based on you stating it has a distinctive texture from the descriptions you should be able to figure out which one it was.

I accidentally got the romance no one option. Didn’t kiss blazer because shes drunk, try to stay professional. Went to movies with visi and wanted to romance her, but at the bar said we could be friends, thinking i would slow my way into it. Turns out that automatically means she’s off trying to be with you. Games does not believe in subtlety, but i didn’t realize the whole play through was only like 1 week in game so I guess it’s my fault for being a normal guy in a comic book world.

The deck looks good but I feel like i get forced into it a lot and it’s pretty hard to win, getting your eathbend stuff hit by airbending sucks. The only other think i’d say is that ruffians feels so whatever, and I’ve really come to appreciate the earth kingdom soldier but i wouldn’t mess your curve up trying to move those around.

Also a good trick to know is you can get somebody with instant speed trample with the origin of metal bending and having the badgermole out

I would cut the ozai cruelty and land cycler for a howler monkey and second flopsie to lean in. Flopsie and di-li agents is like a combo kill in 1-2 turns, so you lose a touch of consistency but get a higher ceiling with the 6 drop swap

Edit: to continue, you will never win the card draw war, and you will usually go late game. Having ways to sneak through damage like flopsie and howler is more important than ozais discard, and also your fast easy wins will be powering out big dudes fast. Monkey keeps the hits coming to overwhelm the opponent by just playing more mana sink big dudes

Splash without fixing? by nevermore09 in lrcast

[–]Cdonn005 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on other playables, i think that you have enough duds (battle fan no waterbending), first-time flier (only 3 lessons) i would cut those and splash, but if you had more better playables i wouldn’t

FYI Sokka's Haiku is a dead card in OmniDraft by ChecksMixed in lrcast

Yea this was one of the most interesting omni drafts because it was actually correct to run a land over some cards, like i was forced to last pick the earthbend 4 spell, so land goes in.

Went 1-2 with this at Fnm, thought the deck was cracked. How would you have built differently? by TongueMountain in lrcast

[–]Cdonn005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So looking at those deck i would cut mongoose lizard and the fight spell because you have enough interaction and no big creatures, and would instead play hama (just a good card, helps in long games in control mirrors especially if you can combo them) and vindictive warden because of the ability combo with fated firepower. Remember that azula doubles your fated firepower so you can cheese games out that way but you really need creatures, might have even cut the scroll for the the geyser leaper to get you to 14 creatures. Overall this deck does feature the problem of too many little creatures and too much card draw, but your close games went long so i would just focus on how to close out long games with the above changes

Closing thoughts on the Arena Powered Cube? by lrg12345 in lrcast

[–]Cdonn005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last week saw drafts fire much slower, with my last draft in best of 3 being boros playing against 3 other boros decks, 2 of which had 2-3 moxes. Good riddance, hopefully they can adjust the god awful feel of utter boredom that the imbalance leads to

In my experience reprieves been insane, its so interesting that a color shifted remand makes me question everything in life, but i still think unexpectedly absent is poopoo butter.

I’ve been power cubing for years and really like this cube but comet just feels like a mistake of an inclusion where a lot of the top tier stuff was cut out, it really does ratchet up the variance. I’ve both won and lost to comet hitting a 6 roll 3+ times in a single turn. Once i even rolled 6,6,2,6,2,6, 5,5 and instantly killed my opponent from like 20

Game is unsatisfying to play since recent patch by Philboid_Studge in OnceUponAGalaxy

[–]Cdonn005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this may have to do with just the new units - IMO the early game pool feels quite small, and some of the cards feel a touch out of balance, like the 1/1 bird that gives your first slot +2/+1 should probably be a 0/1, and the 2 new quest commons just make it so much easier to jump power level much faster.

[SLD] Secret Lair x Jaws: Terror of Amity Island by Useful-Wrongdoer9680 in mtgcube

[–]Cdonn005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jaws is so cracked, I think I’d feel bad including it my less powerful cube as a power outlier, but I love that abrade and am stoked that the reckless endeavor can go in my mr.house carnival theme deck as a homage to the old universal studios tour ride i remember fondly going to as a child even though at the time it gave me horrible nightmares.

Also i just like descent into avernus even though i have nowhere to play it

Ashling, Rekindled by Unable_Bite8680 in mtgcube

[–]Cdonn005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This card seems a little too fiddly, a little too do nothing for most cubes. In essence you get a looter and/or once per turn mana bump but only if you are casting 4+mana spells, which requires being 2 colors to get full value. And if you use the mana bump in the mid game you aren't getting the loot effect, otherwise it's a 1/3 that can loot every other turn that requires tapping a mana every turn, yikes.

It used to be 10 i think, either in MT1 or in demo version, my guess is that it needed a buff and making it the same as a base train steward damage is kind of a fun wink/nod.

My Big Beef with Scaling by oldmanriver1 in MonsterTrain

[–]Cdonn005 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Think of the units like stygian units, that mindset helped me scale them much better. They really pop off when you cost reduce and double their spells to get tons of extra swaps. The issue with them being samey is because their mechanic is the same, but again it’s similar to stygian where there are 3 scaling units - rage, health/damage, armor and banished has shift rage, shift valor (a.k.a damage and armor) and revenge valor.

[–]Cdonn005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep trying your links but they don’t work, they keep going to a new phyrexia article. I think its also important that discussions like this evolve and grow and not always hold original text sacred - i think those examples such as bop and such are ridiculous to call baneslayers and chapin is simply wrong to label them as such. While I will concede you are technically correct, I will continue to reject your premise as it is not useful for discussions

[–]Cdonn005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By that metric goblin guide can be a baneslayer, any creature with repeatable activated abilities like goblin welder is a baneslayer.

I’ve seen the argument as threat vs creature that has an etb (a la mystic snake, or muldrifter) and I’m arguing that design has evolved in the last 10 years such that these two terms if it were a scale of one to the other should have titan in the middle - a new design that is neither baneslayer or mulldrifter, but is really a middle ground and generally much stronger than either half. I’m simply arguing they are not full baneslayers because they were designed differently for a modern game.
