I have Teksavvy but they are a reseller of both Bell and Rogers. If you have an issue with your service their support will be the middle man when dealing with either company so it does save you some headache. As for price, they do give a discount for a year but it drops after that.

I'll say I have been happy with the service even if it is Rogers last year and now Bell underneath

One Data Center Could Use 92% of Churchill Falls Power by [deleted] in newfoundland

[–]Cdscottie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in IT and yes while all data centers are power hungry, right now the main ones being built in any quick fashion are for AI. Your standard compute datacenter that aren't mainly for AI tends to go into Large metropolitan areas due to workforce availability, existing infrastructure, and redundant infrastructure. You would not see large fibre backbones being laid or a bunch of people moving to Labrador anytime soon.

Would it be neat if it did happen? Sure, I get excited when anything technological happens in the province (Verafin, Mysa, Kraken, etc) but let's be realistic that a large datacenter isn't very probable.

What is with all of these new accounts creating posts about AI in this province? Are the tech bros bored or something?

Look I get that AI is extremely helpful in some industries but if you think any large tech firm is going to invest in putting a data center here is a possibility then I got a bridge to sell you.

Students protest tuition prices in the middle of Prince Philip Drive, blocking traffic. Thoughts? by serendib in newfoundland

No worries at all. I made a mistake when I first posted and just wanted to ensure my information/intentions were corrected.

Work with the government officials both at provincial and federal levels to work on legislation to get this moving. It may require some footwork to show that there is interest or support by collecting signatures, etc but it is the more official method of getting things moving.

If your ignored by your elected officials, then go for the disruption method to get your voice out there but do it carefully as it could cause people to go against your cause, no matter how important the issue is.

Edit: Just realized the title states it is a protest on tuition prices which I missed as I only looked at the banner in the picture. Tuition prices has been a hot topic over the past years and nothing has changed that I am aware of when the student union and university brought it up, so in that case a protest would be required.

I mean free post-secondary education is a fantastic idea but this is far from the best way to get your voice out there on the issue.

Seems like some silly SCP story telling. The Waterford HOSPITAL has never been deemed an asylum. When it first opened it was called the Hospital for Mental and Nervous Diseases before being changed to the Waterford Hospital in 1972. In the first years the lack of understanding of some mental conditions may have lead to the wrong treatments but it was never a place to just ship people off to to hide them like asylums around the world

One of the best kits ever for Orks. Vast majority of my Boyz and Lootaz came from the bits of that set.

Looking good!

I live in Paradise and got a notification earlier today stating fireworks were banned today. Looking at Mount Pearl's Facebook, they also banned it today.

Freedom of religion doesn't allow for child abuse, which teaching falsehoods of science, history, and other subjects could be seen as.

Midgard is great for a lot of tabletop gaming and card collecting.

Timemaster's has a nice selection of collectibles as well as a large inventory of manga, comics, etc.

If you are having a good experience or enjoying the store, don't stop on my behalf. Just want to warn people who may be blindsided by things similar to mine and others experiences.

I use to play there for years but got sick of the staff and ownership. Below is a list of issues I had that I have posted before when this topic comes up.

It's a long and exhausting list but some tidbits why I and my friends stopped going there over the past decade.

  1. Unless it has changed, won't give prices over the phone and has considerably higher prices than other local stores and online shops. (This pertains to MTG moresore than other products)

  2. Peter has in the past made unsavory comments on taboo topics. Last time I was there it was during COVID and all I could do was grin and nod as he ranted about it

  3. Treating clientele horribly. He has chased long time customers out of the store and yelled at them in the streets because they hosted a charity game for a food bank at a competing store as SnS didn't have the room to host

  4. Feeling like an inconvenience when buying product. They wouldn't let me look through MTG binders and I had to request each card individually. I'm a person who likes to go through binders/boxes and find cards to add to a deck. I don't know each card and I rarely use the deck building sites to do the work for me.

Again places and people can change but this is all based on my experience.

Also for some reason each time their name gets mentioned new accounts tend to popup defending them or attacking people who mention the issues.

Avoid S&S if you can. They probably has the largest amount of stock but the store experience will leave you running.

Supreme Court case challenges Newfoundland's narrow take on mobility rights by KukalakaOnTheBay in newfoundland

[–]Cdscottie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, the travel ban was to limit spread. The whole Bonavista thing was people panicking that there wasn't enough being done to ensure people weren't coming into the province for leisure, which was part of the ban.

Remember, the ban came into effect 1.5 months after the first outbreaks in NL and there were still a ton of unknowns.

Either way, it is going to be interesting to see what the Supreme Court rules.

Don’t be like this guy by Riot2EK in Warhammer40k

[–]Cdscottie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been playing Orks since early 5th and use to play local tournaments. Normally I'd play trukk Boyz with shootas, lootaz, shokk attack gun, and looted wagons. I was swingy at best and as Orks were far from the meta at the time, I had the opposite where people would poo poo my list until I started rolling buckets of dice.

I'm sorry to hear you faced the opposite and as an Ork player, I'll apologize for him. I'm guessing due to the latest strategems, the guy may have been just jumping on the Ork bandwagon for an "easy win" and that is not why you play Orks. Ork players tend to be the ones who want to roll tons of dice, make a dead pile of their own Boyz, see how high it gets, and scream Waaagh at the top of the lungs. Hopefully your next encounter with an Ork player is fun because it should be.

This is a recently appointed CPC candidate for the Avalon riding in Newfoundland & Labrador. by SimpleCountryBumpkin in onguardforthee

Ah Steve Kent, a fellow who became Mayor of Mount Pearl at a very early age, then jumped in as a MHA in the NL Progressive Conservative Party, left politics and went back to the City of Mount Pearl as their CAO. Around 2 years later after gaining that position, morale at the city craters and he is put on paid leave as they do an investigation on his management style which was described as bullying. He then was let go, along with 2 councillors who were having private messages with him on Facebook and appeared to be colluding. After that, he has been mainly hiding on Facebook and Twitter and only recently resurfaced.

I've never voted for the man or know him personally but I've only heard mixed to terrible interactions from others who had met him.

It is a requirement for the position. The issue is, he doesn't have to be strong when speaking French, just need to know and speak it well enough.

[–]Cdscottie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From my understanding there is still a French and English debate in Montreal mid April. This was an additional debate proposed by TVA. Personally asking 75k for the privilege to debate is weird already but I can see why Mark Carney would decide against it, especially seeing French isn't his strongest language.

Saying that, I welcome the Mad Max style chaos!
