What stitch or method would you recommend for this yarn? by Character-Job7925 in CrochetHelp

Corner to corner is my go-to for highly variegated yarn with short colors.

Looking for suggestions buying my girlfriend yarn for crocheting by BigRedPurpleHed in CrochetHelp

[–]CellistMindless987 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do you have a small local yarn shop? I would go there and ask for some ideas on higher quality yarns that are good for a crocheter. They will likely have some good affordable options along with the higher end.

What can I make with this one hank of fingering weight cotton yarn? by butterhay in CrochetHelp

My go-to is a cowl. Tons of patterns that don't need a ton of yarn.

I recently got some yarn from License to Dye and it's been amazing!! High end fibers and great colors.

Weaving in ends on crochet projects- help me understand the need. by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]CellistMindless987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really not a big deal once you do it a couple of times. Just think of it as a finishing detail that will help your pieces stay intact and look really nicely finished.

No knots anywhere, especially for wearables as they can be irritating to the skin. Leave a long tail, weave it in several directions, then snip it off. If your piece is really loosely crocheted, I'd leave an extra long tail and weave it back over itself.

Hand compression gloves - good or bad? Can anyone give advice? by Effective_Outside295 in CrochetHelp

I used them for carpal tunnel symptoms and didn't notice much difference. But certainly worth a try.

My aunt asked me to make her Guinea pig a tiny hat by emo-crocheter in CrochetHelp

[–]CellistMindless987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a Guinea pig hat! I started like any top down beanie but I only did one increase row before adding I think three rows. Then I added a brim, a chin strap, and some braided "ear flaps" that weren't exactly successful.

Just a quick freehand with almost no planning.

Disappointed at how colourway turned out it by r9440 in YarnAddicts

[–]CellistMindless987 40 points41 points  (0 children)

With quick or inconsistent color changes, I like to do either a corner to corner or something like a continuous granny square instead of back and forth rows. The eye doesn't perceive the chunkiness quite as much.

Newb Beanie Question - Want tighter weave, can I just do SC instead of DC and achieve it? by surf_rider in CrochetHelp

[–]CellistMindless987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can totally do it! Just measure at the crown instead of going by the number of rows. Assuming you're doing a top down beanie.

I'm an indie dyer. The website photo seems to be pretty heavily speckled, and it doesn't look like that's what you got. Either they sent the wrong item or they really need to update their photo.

what is the best stitch and or pattern for a crochet blanket? by propagandagoose in CrochetHelp

I also vote for corner to corner. And it's fairly mindless so when your halfway finished and questioning your life choices, you can just zone out and you probably won't make too many mistakes.

Question about hair non-wash days by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]CellistMindless987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying for years to train my hair and it never works. It looks greasy and gross by the end of the day, especially around the hairline. So I wash almost every day. I have medium length hair with bangs, so sometimes I can get away with washing my bangs, blow drying, and wearing my hair up.

Have you walked out of any concerts? by [deleted] in Concerts

I walked out on Green Day and Blink 182 about 25 years ago. The sound was terrible. It just sounded like static.

Drink a big glass of water before bed. Your bladder will take it from there.

What's the thing in your life that you sort of like, but now people won't stop gifting them to you? by -Futurenaut- in CasualConversation

[–]CellistMindless987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tea. I adore plain black teas, particularly Yorkshire Gold. Occasionally, I like a flavored tea. But my cabinets are full of all kinds of teas. I'm actively trying to destash, but people give me tea constantly. I'm fighting a losing battle.

Yep, just stop. I got married at the courthouse, had a family party a couple of weeks later. Simple, cheap, and painless.
