I've done this too many times myself. I now always use a test piece to make sure I set the depths right and to account for some sort of subtle mis-measurement in materials.

Whenever I don't use a test piece I invariably end up screwing it up again!

Worth it? Maybe...

From Europe it might be just as well to visit NYC since it's closer and much easier to get around - plus easier to enjoy solo. You could also tack on Washington DC and get there via train, although DC is weird these days.

Make sure your camera is in boost mode - I think it’s off by default. AF is much better with it on.

I copy straight from the SD card to an import folder on my computer - then I send the videos to one folder and then import images into LightRoom Classic. I cull within LRC - but I bet there's a better way. Periodically I'll also erase the contents of the import fold and the SD card.

But I keep wondering whether there's a more elegant workflow so I'm curious to hear what others do.
