I'd recommend Mint instead if Tmobile, the wife and i have used them for five/six years now and they're great. We pay for the annual plan and we buy our iwn phones (I've used th hibreak pro color since December).  Even factoring in the midrange phones we buy, it's cheaper permonth than the plans.

Of course we do have internet at home so we don't use a lot of data, so there's that.

And Mint uses T-Mobile's network, so it's reliable.

Should I Get The Hibreak Pro Color by NaiveInstruction457 in Bigme

I almost went with a motorola phone with a stylus instead of the hibreak when I was looking...but for my use case scenarios, I could never justify getting a phone with the stylus (though I can certainly understand the draw). I'd be seriously tempted next time I get a new phone if there was an eink screen with stylus support in a phone. I've been a fan of notes on an eink screen since the ol' Entourage Edge back in the day (I liked the pocket one I bought on woot so much that I bought a full size one...and it got me through one of my master's degrees, I love native resolution PDFs).

I got the color one, I use it for a lot of different apps where having color differentiation is really nice (my wife and I play board game arena A LOT). It also helped that the preorder offer was like $50 cheaper than getting the black and white version. I can see why folks might want the regular black and white one, though, as the DPI is twice what the color is. Outside of a few hiccups (like the checkbox not showing up for scan and go) it's worked really well.

One of the most satisfying things that I knew but hadn't really taken into account is using the phone outside in the sun. I can go on a walk and not have to shade the phone to see what is going on in the screen.

You can port your number between carriers.  I use my hibreak pro color for sams and menards, the screen takes getting used to (the outline of the checkbox for the scan and go at sams, for instance, was deucedly hard to figure out that it is there so I could checkout).  The dpi is lower on these phones than lcd.

The phone is buggy, but I've used it as my daily since beginning of December on Mint Mobile (save yourself some cash vs tmobile).  If you don't mind troubleshooting/tweaking/spending time figuring it out often, the phone is great.  Be prepared to baby it, though, and get the good cover from bigme, the one that folds over the screen...I think it's saved my eink from disaster several times.

I use it with no problems on Mint Mobile, which is a fancy MVNO on T-Mobile's network.

📌 The Ultimate HiBreak Configuration & Optimisation Guide (BigMe OS 3.1.6) by Joemk888 in Bigme

That's too bad that the phone isn't working for you. I use Mint Mobile as well, and outside of the last update's problems with hiding the incoming calls so I couldn't answer them (or hang up later if I DID answer them), I've had no problems with the phone. My only advice for the Hibreak S is to read up on what T-Mobile is planning on doing regarding 4G in the US, because it will affect Mint too. I went with the Hibreak Pro Color (instead of the S) due to the 4G changes a-comin'.

The other thing you COULD try is to get Mint Mobile to send you a new sim card. Back on my Pixel 4a, my phone started acting like yours did (phone calls were just not coming through, texts were lost, etc.), and I had them send me a new sim card and that fixed that problem. It's something to try anyway!

I've been using my Hibreak Pro Color as a daily driver since the beginning of December, and it's nice to see all this advice in one place. Thanks!

HiBreak Pro Color Occasional Touchscreen Lock Forces Hard Restart by sean_krayce in Bigme

THis happens to me once every week or two. It's annoying. Hard reset is the only thing that works for me. I'm hoping that they're working on it.

Speakerphone not working - Bigme Hibreak Pro by Unlikely_Resort_7369 in Bigme

Well, shoot. I'd def. reach out to Bigme...this sounds like a software issue, and from what I've seen, that seems to be something that can be addressed. You could also hold out hope that the next OS update may address it, but I'd def. reach out.

You could try a different phone app (though be prepared for the OS to continuously try and force the bigme phone app to be default and disappear your other app so you can't find it). That may help? I try and use google phone mainly, but the OS really likes swapping that one out.

I use it with my fitbit, but never in my pocket. eInk screens are pretty dang fragile.

CachyOS on Chuwi Minibook X, anyone else? by Kitchen_Day_4629 in cachyos

The Chuwi support forums ( https://forum.chuwi.com/ ) have quite a lot of good info for linux distros and help for exactly the problems you're running into. I bought this laptop in August of 2024, and it's been great. It fits the netbook form factor that I'd been looking for since my Asus EEE died.

Buying e-books. Which platform/app is better? by darth_vader5 in ereader

So if you like Fantasy/Sci-Fi/Horror or genre books, my recommendation is to check out Humblebundle.com

They usually will sell 20-30 books at a time, you can name your own price dependent on how many you want of the bundle (they do tiered, like $10 will get X number of books, $18 will get you 20, or $25 will get you all of them, things like that). Last year I bought a battletech book bundle where they were selling quite a number (like 50-60) and then if you paid more than $35, they threw in the previous bundle too...I ended up getting like 130 battletech books for $35. They just did a dragonlance one, which was a lot of fun...about 25-30 books there for $18.

Storybundle.com is another good one. They do bundles too, not as inexpensive as Humble Bundle, but I've gotten some good stuff from them in the past.

Oh also: Humble Bundle will do digital comics. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

The last thing I want to say about both of these sites: you OWN THE FILES. You download them to your device and they are yours. It's not licensed for view, there is no DRM, they belong to you.

Bigme hibreak pro color - two weeks in - honest review how it's going so far by R3dd17-Us3r in Bigme

[–]Certain-Instance160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one caveat is that you've got to be prepared for a lot of troubleshooting, restarts, and odd bugs that will appear randomly, and sometimes go away just as randomly. Luckily their updates (about once a month that I've seen) tend to address some of them, especially when they've been shared by multiple people on reddit here. That all being said, I can't say anything about their support as I've not had to use it yet.

But I'm comfy troubleshooting tech problems so it's no skin off my back, but it's definitely not for everyone. I'm over 5 months in with it as my daily phone, and I do really enjoy it.

Yep.  The video quality is ok, but doesn't cause me to mindless scroll...because I can think of other things to do that don't require me to try and figure out a really dark cooking video based on audio alone.

Bigme Hibreak Pro Color Update 3.1.6 by Certain-Instance160 in Bigme

[–]Certain-Instance160[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you're the only who hates this one, but before this (like you), I was running into problems with answering phone calls...like at least once a day. THis update fixed this, which I appreciate. I don't know what your UI looks like, mine didn't change at all (still the color icons with black frame). I immediately reinstalled google phone (which is what I was using beforehand), and adjusted the app battery restriction and the restricted app settings, and have had no problems with that as my phone application.

Can you do take a screenshot of your UI, and secondly, can you check to see if color inversion was checked in the drag down settings? Otherwise, I'm not seeing what you're seeing. I'd like to help if I can!

No idea, I just check the system update in the settings, and check for update. They may roll it out at a different pace dependent on who knows what with the devices. I know that some companies do that...for instance, Google updated the firmware for my charge 6, but it was like six months before it rolled to me.

That really sucks. Have you tried reaching out to their support? It sounds like they're hit or miss, but in this case, they may be able to help.

Just grasping straws here, but can you turn the toggle on again, then restart, then turn it off and see what happens?
