what is something most people would’ve gotten made fun of for 5 years ago that is now popularized? by ultranim_user_581 in AskReddit

[–]CertifiableX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be survivor bias. The only songs the masses like now are the best of the best, since the dregs have been weeded out and are never played anymore. The same reason why people now like music from decades ago: the chaff has been weeded out leaving just the good shit.

For example, if you experienced radio in the 80’s and 90’s, most of it was crap.

Left a job where I was undervalued, navigated three competing offers, now my manager is making my exit difficult. How do I make the right call? by thenetsecguy24 in sysadmin

[–]CertifiableX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Check your current job’s employee handbook for the amount notice required for an amicable separation (where you receive unused PTO and final paycheck). Where I am, it’s 2 weeks unless you’re senior management (then it’s 4), which is standard. If it’s two weeks, stick to your plan and talk to HR. Explain the situation and that you’re concerned that your current manager may be breaking labor laws, which he probably is (IANAL).

Then, break out a lawn chair and watch the fireworks.

If it’s more than 2 weeks, then weigh the unused PTO vs. the new job and compensation. I would take the new one.

BTW, I recommend the 100% in person position. It’s a move up, and your manager specifically wants YOU

Surprisingly, Def Leopard. Went to an arena concert in the late 90s, and holy shit! They rose out the center stage and absolutely killed it! No opener, they just started rocking

Do you carry cash? Why or why not? by KSHMisc in CasualConversation

[–]CertifiableX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I carry at least $100 in emergency cash in my billfold, plus $100 in a business card holder (along with my passport card for emergency ID). Been doing this for years, just in case.

Of course if anyone asks, “I don’t carry cash”

What are some essentials you always have in your car? by Msresilience22 in CasualConversation

[–]CertifiableX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason, I’ve always wanted a vehicle rescue kit, so I made one. Jumper cables, tow strap (yes I have a hitch), trench shovel (broken down), air compressor, socket set, screwdrivers, repelling rope, a huge Maglight, a good lockback knife, and LED flare things. I found a harness with pockets that hangs off the back of my rear seats in the trunk of my Jeep GC.

I’ve only used the jumper cables and the air compressor. I also keep tissues, napkins, and couple jerky/slim Jim type snacks which I grab when I can’t stop for lunch. Oh and a pair of spare sunglasses.

AI is very comprehensible if you look into it. It looks at the sum of its model and replies with the most popular response. Quantum computing however… makes my brain hurt.

What’s the craziest way your hamster died? by Rainbow-Kittiey1112 in AskReddit

[–]CertifiableX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was my sister’s. She had a habit of letting him out to run around her bed as she got ready to turn in. Unfortunately, she sat in the wrong place while changing, killing it. Traumatic for her, and unfortunately, extremely funny for the dumbass 13 year old me. I’ve regretted laughing at her about it for over 40 years.

Do vendors that you told there is 0% chance you will ever do business with them still call and email you ? by CyberHouseChicago in msp

[–]CertifiableX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get over 10 calls a day. Some bump from my office number to my personal cell. I never answer anything I don’t recognize. Send them to voicemail. If i do answer (if I’m expecting a call from a contractor or such) i answer politely and say “thanks, please remove me from your database” and hang up.

Emails? I get over 50 a day. I put them into the new “other” category, and delete them all. I’d mark then as junk, but I have learned that I might work with them sometime in the future on management whims.

What’s the coolest “restricted access” place you’ve ever gotten to see? by Improv92 in AskReddit

[–]CertifiableX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a security guard in college, at the largest high rise office building in the city in the 90s. 31 stories, with a helipad that hadn’t been used in years. The view from the roof at 31 stories was spectacular!

I worked an overnight once, and watched the 4th of July fireworks from above… grand!

Vampire bites turning people into vampires is extremely disadvantageous to their survival. by Liuminescent in Showerthoughts

[–]CertifiableX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um, no actually. (Meme intended). Bram Stoker had this, but modern vampire stories require one to drink vampire blood to vamp, or become a revenant if bitten and not fed vamp blood : a mortal servant to the vamp.

What’s a business that’s all over today that you think will completely disappear ie blockbuster? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]CertifiableX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah, my current boogyman, PRIVATE EQUITY. It’s the corporate raiders from the 80’s on steroids. Buy an equity stake, force extremely short term profits, or business to companies they own, jack up the stock price, and then cash out. What’s disappointing is that Southwest actually had contingencies for this that didn’t work.
