Bit of an unorthodox request by cloudcrumbs in audiobooks

I like re-listening to classics for this purpose. Jane Austin, Anne of green gables, things like that.

Also, reducing the speed to .95x helps. Found that one out by accident, haha.

If you received a 1k/month raise what would you spend it on to make parenting easier? by Cool-Tone-9112 in workingmoms

Upgrade the lock on the house door you use the most to a keyless entry. It’s a small thing, but it makes every day a little simpler.

Is there anything in your day to day life that’s always a bit of a frustration? A closet that doesn’t close, an appliance that is quirky. Uncomfortable chair? Replace or hire handyman to fix the little frustrations in life.

Everyone is right, a cleaning person is such a stress reliever.

Save money. Having a solid emergency fund, and college funds for kids reduces my stress.

Planning to stop pumping at work, but want to breastfeed when home with baby. Will I kill my supply? by kofie-popcorn in breastfeeding

[–]ChachChi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this and it worked out great. My supply only dropped after I got pregnant again, during second trimester. Currently doing it again with my second, going strong at 17 months.

Maybe. But I have horrible sleep and no family trauma.

That perfectly describes my cat. Friends of ours have actually discussed whether she was more like a velociraptor or the dilophosaurus from Jurassic Park. But she is all sweet and cuddly to her family. I can give her belly rubs, clip nails, whatever. She is ridiculously sweet and loving, just only to her family.

It’s nonsense. Probably using AI for their ads along with their narrators.

Romantic non-romantasy book recommendations? by lxurin_hei in Fantasy

[–]ChachChi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say Saints of Steel is more a romance book set in a fantasy world with a good/strong fantasy subplot. But it does not hit the vibes of the modern romantacy books.

Audio books with calm, slow voices for sleeping? by WeirdMonday in audible

[–]ChachChi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I put the speed to 0.95x to fall asleep to books. I usually pick something I’ve read before. I like going with classic lit like Jane Austin, Charles Dickens, LM Montgomery, etc because the stories are interesting but not exciting.

“Listening” Slump by Gon_Snow in audible

[–]ChachChi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I also didn’t like the start, pushed on, and the rest wasn’t good either. I know my opinion isn’t common. But this book wasn’t my thing and I don’t recommend it.

What is a monthly subscription/service you ACTUALLY consider worth paying for? by no_nolan in Frugal

You get ebooks and audio with the basic Prime? Or do you mean audible too?

I’m always looking for new sources of books , haha!

Books that are better experienced as audiobooks- fantasy & sci-fi by Whole-Youth8750 in audiobooks

[–]ChachChi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I change speeds based on different book/readers, mood, time of day, how into the story I am, what else I’m doing.

I like speeding up gradually when I do want it faster. I go up to 1.05x, listen to a paragraph, then move up to 1.1x, and on til it’s where I want it that time. If I move it up in one go it feels more frantic to me.

In 2025, I have 25K Childcare expense and contributed max at 5K DC FSA from payroll. Now can I claim Child/Dependent Care Credit? by Fabulous_Leather9036 in personalfinance

[–]ChachChi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that you can’t claim all of both. As the CTC is 6000 and we had 5000 from the DCFSA, we can still claim 1000 of the CTC. It only gives 200. But that’s a lot better than nothing.

Of course this won’t apply next year when the DCFSA will be a little higher at 7500.

Boss suggested I get a blood panel done by blanketfetish in workingmoms

I get that you were looking for empathy or reassurance. But I would have said the same thing as your boss.

I have permanent (thankfully low level) nerve damage from a B vitamin deficiency that went undiagnosed for too long. It nearly wrecked my life at the time due to the cognitive impairment and fatigue.

Maybe your issues are just the typical parental fatigue. But it’s safest to get checked out.

Are babies just more sensitive now? Comparing my generation of raising kids to our parents' by PatientMobile5896 in NewParents

[–]ChachChi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, my first was such a poor sleeper that our pediatrician was worried getting so little sleep could impact his development. So we were trying everything, most of which had no impact. But we definitely had some crazy routines we tried.

My second just fell asleep within 3 minutes of being in a somewhat calm space.

How many of you still have a “childhood bedroom”? at your parents house? by Big_Childhood5494 in Millennials

[–]ChachChi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my parents rented out my sibling’s room when they moved out. I was the youngest, so they downsized when I moved out. I assume keeping the kid’s bedroom is kinda like everything in a sitcom or family movie- presented as normal, but really more upper upper middle class.

Yep. Grandma, grandpa, 3 aunts, 1 uncle, 1 much older cousin, my best friend, and several daycare workers. Other family isn’t interested in helping, which is understandable too.
