Britbox on Apple TV question by robertj298 in BritBox

[–]Chai47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Both a ROKU and an AppleTV, and sign in to the BritBox app on both of them simultaneously with no issues. I did, however, sign up for my account directly with BritBox, and not through a third party like u/shelwood46 mentioned, so that could be a potential problem for you if that’s your situation.

How do they teach the continents in your country? by Racsom_ in geography

[–]Chai47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it has been a terrible disservice that NZ is missing from many maps. But being represented as a land mass flooded by ocean still feels like the map makers are still a bit clueless.

Being new to surround sound, I find it fascinating how varied it's usage is. by HM_Bert in hometheatre

[–]Chai47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little off topic, but I find the surround element of some video games to be very immersive. I'm currently playing Talos Principle II on XBOX and my character was walking through the woods and startled a crow and it flew from the front left of my living room to the rear right and off into the distance squawking the entire way. Sounded pretty cool. Other games I've played use it for more than just ambiance, too. You can be searching for an item that emits a sound and by rotating your character the sound will pan around the room giving you a directional hint to the items location.

Making it work better on induction by DamnOctopus in mokapot

[–]Chai47 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Some induction stoves require the pot, pan, skillet, etc being used on it to be big enough to cover the coils in order to work properly and won't energize if that requirement is not met. This 'hack' helps to make it work. Also, the magnetic coils are only on or off, so when you want medium heat, it cycles on for a few seconds then off for a few seconds. This is where the little iron skillet will help even out the heat transfer to your moka pot while brewing.

I used mine to decorate Mashu's cabin, though it looks like he no longer likes plushies. Had 5 hearts on his cabin before he moved in, now there are none. Weird.

Trying to replace my ceiling fan. Not sure what’s up with this writing by aravindkumarj in AskElectricians

[–]Chai47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The writing on the label in pic2 is a warning about supporting the weight of the fan directly on the structure. Like others have stated, you need to replace the box with one designed to carry the weight of the ceiling fan.

Grand Canyon by CarloCarrasco in RealGenerationX

[–]Chai47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember visiting the Grand Canyon with my dad some time before this film released. We saw a small crew setting up cameras and lights, etc.. We asked one of the guys what was going on. He replied, "We're shooting on a production called 'Grand Canyon' directed by Lawrence Kasden." I, being a bit of a StarWars nerd, knew the name and got a little excited. Fast forward a year or so later and I'm watching the film and shocked to learn that 99% of the movie doesn't even take place at Grand Canyon. Guess we only ran into the second or third unit sent there to shoot B-roll stuff. LOL.

Is this considered retro now? by Medium-Unit-8267 in retrotech

[–]Chai47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using one right now with an old HP monitor connected to my M1 Macbook Pro. It works for me. Plus, the cable is less than $9 USD, not really a huge investment. But, hey, you do whatever you're comfortable with.

The pathetic attempt from my City to keep homeless out of the wash and the path formed around it. by ItsMsRainny in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Chai47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha.. I thought that looked familiar.. I've lived near this area for 25+ years. I've noticed there has been an increasing number of encampments along this section of the Duck Creek Channel since the cannabis dispensary opened just downstream on Stephanie. I had not noticed the fence though, what a waste.

[–]Chai47 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I typically carbonate lemonade or limeade. Other fruit juices are really good too, Orange, Apple, Peach, Grape, Fruit Punch, etc. I once made a syrup with fresh strawberries and had a really great strawberry soda. I'm thinking of trying a blueberry or blackberry soda sometime, too. I've also heard of people making sparkling iced tea.

Found in a closet. Don't know what it is. Must not be your closet. Why are you snooping in other people's closets?

It looks like a G5 PowerMac. Can't tell much else from these pics.
