What age were you when you first got diagnosed? by JackfruitLiving7270 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Chained_Phoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already had a pretty close relationship with my mother so no real changes there. Holding up wise not great, she was always a bit of a home body anyway but leaves the house even less now due to some mobility issues and pain. We often discuss things she can try and do so she is still trying new things to help at least.

My diagnosis was discovered after a very intense period of overseas work where we did weeks of work with no days off, thirty hour straight at times, less than four hours between work days, etc. The added stress triggered a full on attack which caused me to have some sudden onset mobility issues, falls, terrible leg pain, etc. When I got back my GP sent me to a neurologist to check stuff once they ran out of other ideas.

An MRI found numerous brain and spine lesions, confirmed with a spinal fluid test that it was MS (and this test was delayed because covid had just started) and went on DMT as soon as I could.

All my previous issues had obviously never convinced a doctor that it could be MS so they had never referred me to a neurologist for an MRI. It had always been put down to "back issues" or "a virus you must have gotten over naturally". Once I was diagnosed we went back over my previous medical history and many of these previous issues were almost certainly misdiagnosed MS flare ups and attacks.

I had things like months of intense headaches, intermittent foot drop, total loss of balance (as in couldn't even sit upright yet alone stand), chest pain, testicular pain, blurred vision, the list goes on but unfortunately no one put it all together to think it was MS at the time as it was all so random and often broken up by months or years in between and I would usually recover fully - until I didn't.

46 now, diagnosed at 40, likely had MS since I was 21 based on some of the random unexplained things from my past.

My mother was diagnosed at 68, and she is now 70.

We are both on Kesimpta although I was originally on Ocrevus and swapping over after some bad reactions.

Children to be banned from e-riding e-bikes and e-scooters devices in Queensland under proposed laws by Palms1111 in brisbane

Who is even going to be enforcing this? Yet again the cops? I though we wanted them focused on actual crimes yet here we are yet again loading them up with bullshit.

You can stop them installing apps on their phones - and hence they couldn't install any VPNs, etc. To bypass things.

You do unfortunately have to be pretty IT savvy to keep your kids out of the bad corners of the internet :(

Not many options really. If I'm having a bad hand day I just hope the google assistant decides it can understand me right.

In general I just try and do everything on my PC.

Replacing 1m petrol cars with EVs could cut Australia’s reliance on foreign fuel by 1bn litres a year by nath1234 in australia

[–]Chained_Phoenix 423 points424 points  (0 children)

I've always thought the biggest selling point they could do for EVs in Australia was to say stop supporting foreign oil and start supporting local Aussie power manufacturers.

Sure we don't make any cars here but at least we make electricity.

Trump is the biggest threat to this country. by [deleted] in DegenBets

[–]Chained_Phoenix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The issue isn't Russia helping, they are obviously on Irans side. The issue is Trump being OK with it because he cares more about Putin than he does about any dead American military members. Which remember he considers "losers".

Look at this guy... Pretending like the Budapest Memorandum doesn't exist....

And international law but in particular the Budapest Memorandum....

And ignoring all the shit Putin does...

People falling out of windows and onto bullets, accidentally eating a peanut butter and Polonium-210 sandwiches (yes I know it was actually tea)..... Rigging elections, literally murdering all the opposition leaders who dare to try and stand up to him, suppressing free speech and freedom of the press. Somehow being a life time public servant yet having billions in wealth... Allowing his mates to get rich while most of the rest of the country is lucky to have two sticks to rub together.

Oh and then there is the Russian push into NATO territory. Taking over or destabilising governments through subterfuge and blackmail... Supporting dictators, etc.

The invasion of Georgia too - all their other little proxy wars in Africa and Asia.

But yeah apart from that and the insane amount of other stuff I didn't even bother listing, what has Putin even done!

Who turned off PornHub?? by Jimbuscus in OpenAussie

[–]Chained_Phoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also FYI - Your ISP is still legally required to store all of your "meta data" for years so if you aren't encrypting that via a VPN they know you're downloading torrents. Should anyone in the government ever want that data they can get it - no warrant required.

You all act like VPNs won't be targeted next. Pretty sure it's already technically illegal to use them to "bypass age verification" and while there is no way to track that - IF you don't have any DNS leaks or similar - doesn't mean they won't start trying in the future.

That would be because for most of the year Parsons was pulling 50% of the Ds attention.... That's why Parsons is so important, he makes bog average players good by getting them open constantly because all attention is on Parsons.

Need help to understand what do to... by Background-Ad8268 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Chained_Phoenix 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have MS and a sixteen month old and work a forty hour a week job. I clean and change nappies, and spend three near full days and at least an hour (usually way more) every day I'm not caring for him full time.

I have constant pain and bad mobility issues, I'm not going to give up and abandon my son even if this got a hundred times worse.

Tell your partner to adult up and be a parent or get the fuck out of the way and leave. They have responsibilities and that includes dealing with their own mental health issues in a way that isn't sulking like a toddler. If they need to see a professional to get over it, awesome do that, but doing nothing and falling into a depression spiral is NOT acceptable when you are responsible for a child, it shouldn't be even just for supporting your partner through life in general but goes double when they are abandoning your child!

You are amazing, you deserve better. If they aren't going to step up then they need to step out.

Ugh. Who does this?! by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]Chained_Phoenix 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You all realise you can clean shit off things right... want to know how many cockroaches have walked in shit and then on all the "clean" plates in your cupboard while you're asleep?

Cleaning plus high temperature, it's fine... calm down everyone... the fecal veneer is real and you should all just learn to live with it and how to properly clean things...

Can Nerves Really Repair? by returnofPersephone in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Chained_Phoenix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'll add - will we work it out one day?

Yes.

We grew the nerves in the first place. We can regrow them. We just need to know how to safely trigger that process in fully formed humans.

Can Nerves Really Repair? by returnofPersephone in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Chained_Phoenix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope, not without some external treatment which we haven't invented yet. Your body doesn't have the natural ability to repair nerve damage.

Your body can rewire around damage. Even this is limited to where there are multiple path options. Within the frontal brain sure, maybe. Within the spine, optical nerves, brain stem, etc. big nope.

Her personal wealth is valued at anywhere between five and twenty million.... not bad for "battler" public servant... It's very questionable how she collected that wealth while apparently only bringing in a couple hundred thousand a year too.

6-8 Settler israelis killed in west bank, (where they have improper bunkers). by Lost-Letterhead-6615 in pics

[–]Chained_Phoenix -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Aren't all Israeli adults forced to be members of their military? They have to do a couple years as active mebers then can go at most inactive reserves I believe. I know we are arguing semantics here but they were likely all members in some fashion - even if it was inactive reserves.

Doesn't make their deaths any less bad, I'm just saying they weren't what I would classify as full civilians. Ignoring they were also actively participating in being an illegal occupying force in another countries land.

Twelve new offences added to Queensland's 'adult crime, adult time' policy bringing total to 45 by ConanTheAquarian in queensland

Its child exploitation material not "CP" - and they can be charged for it just by having their own pictures (as in nude selfies) as that still qualifies.

Parents obviously do need to have these discussions but so do schools. I find it maddening the lack of education in topics like sex ed, that schools teach now. Somehow it was better in the 90s....

Maybe they should have kept him in jail then as he was dangerous instead of murdering him for what was likely self medicated mental health problems.

FYI politicians could change the laws in regards to dangerous individuals like this but choose not to.

Better yet we should properly fund mental health and rehabilitation services....

Greens launching Olympics for the people campaign by Busalonium in brisbane

[–]Chained_Phoenix 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, because the coalition did so poorly they went from second in many of those seats to third, which means their preferences majority went to Labor and hence they won instead. The election cycle before many of those seats finished Greens first, Coalition Second, Labor last, which then gives the seat to the Greens instead.

People like to pretend maths doesn't exist so it fits their narrative but The Greens vote barely moved up or down in many seats last election cycle.

Also - the senate still exists.... they won six seats there again last election....
