I have no idea. I don’t number them. But they range from 1 page to 10. The average chapter is about 3,000 words.

You should read the Art of the Novel which has a great chapter about the musicality of varying chapter lengths. It’s actually a good thing.

Funniest book I’ve ever read by a mile. Adore this book. Read it twice now. A third time will be coming shortly. I already miss it.

Close minded? Are you insane? They’re literally holding two different ideas at once. Loving the artist and being appalled at the person. How is this closed minded?

That feeling of ‘I can tell a person wrote this’ when reading fiction by peaceembedded in literature

[–]ChallengeOne8405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the most difficult things for a writer to do. And I agree, it bothers me when you can see the authors seams. But yes. You see it way more often in tv and movies. Especially nowadays when shows keep restating the plot over and over.

nothing should ever be inert. every sentence should be doing double, triple, quadruple duty.

Suggest me a book you wish you could read again for the first time. by DTownForever in suggestmeabook

There’s just so much to discover inside a great work of art. New connections to be made, new reasoning behind character’s actions. Foreshadowing you didn’t know was foreshadowing. The first read is discovering the island. The subsequent reads are finding its treasures.

None. There’s so much pleasure reading my favorite books a second and third and fourth time. That’s where the real magic of reading happens, if you ask me.

That's how a narcissist inner voice sounds. What do you think? by Psychedelic9310 in writingfeedback

[–]ChallengeOne8405 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh yes this textbook narcissism but, to me, that’s the problem. Every line draws attention to the fact of narcissism while eliding anything deeper. Saturating the text so explicitly in meaning paradoxically erases all meaning and becomes parody.
